REAL ESTATE FOR SALE FEMALE HELP WANTED and desk sets that even those
who, are all thumbs can put to-
gether,„ Knitting and croChet-
ing kits, too, making it easy
for anyone to weave or knit a
tie, scarf or muffler for that
favorite man in their lives,
For the seamstress, there
are almost too many items to
enumerate! Aprons, dresses,
skirts, doll clothes, lounge
wear, shirts, playwear, house-
hold accessories are but a few
gift ideas for the needlewoman.
And as for the woodworker
with a shop full of specialized
power tools imagine a man's
satisfaction in crafting a spice
shelf for Mom, a handsome
coffee table, a desk, a gun
rack, or other specialties.
So the list goes on and on.
Every stitch threads an extrAN,,
bit of love and every nail cam-
fully expresses that "just for
you" gift..
Nearly all habits are hard
to break, but one that's easy
for most people is to break the
habit of working.

HOW MUCH MORE
DOES IT COST TO
DRIVE A LATE MODEL?
Keith McClure
So little more, according to current government sta-tistics you may wonder why everyone doesn't.
The analysis of cost by the U.S. Bureau of . Public Roads
was based on a four-door sedan driven 100,000 miles over
10 years, It included all cost items of automobile owner-
ship Aevxecreapgtefpinearlin le financing, over the
whole 10-year period was 11.02 cents. Most costly item by far was depreciation esti-
mated at 2.81 centsper mile. Other costs figUred in the
total included garaging and parking, repairs and mainten-
ance, gasoline, insurance, replacement tires, oil and ac.
in the first year pushed per-mile driving costs to 12:5
cess6ArcieceSrding to the study, "relatively high" depreciatitt
cents. But for the next four years, costs remain fairly
uniform at little more than 11 cents per mile. In the sixth
through tenth years, costs remain constant at about 10
cenlia mile Thegovernment authorities themselves commented on the driving costs, saying: "Looking at the whole picture,
most people would eonclude that there is little real econ-omy in keeping a ear through its full 10-year life if they can afford to do otherwise."
A great deal of the satisfaction of owning a late model
autoniebilo comes from trouble-free performance. If your new car it not properly prepared for delivery by the dealer
thoroughly going through the factory inspection and adjust.
merit check list at his own expense, this satisfaction could' be 100 to you.

Holiday holly
Most of the holly cuttings
used in American homes today
are of the English variety,
grown for the most part in the,
northwest where climatic con-
ditions are most favorable.
Research has produced several
strains of American holly said
to be much hardier and super-
ior in color, foliage and fruit.
These bear such beguiling
names as Merry Christrnas,
Santa Claus, Old Heavy Berry,
and CrOrieriberry,
Once upon a time, in the
not too distant past, Christmas
carried a "hand-made, home-
made" flavor — from the tree
which was selected in its na-
tural habitat to the strings of
popcorn, paper festoons and
ornaments on it, as well as
the diversity of hand-crafted
gifts dressing the base of the
tree.
Now in the sensational Six-
ties, gift-giving is returning to
the good old days when the
"thought" was more important
than the price tag,
And -- it's all part of a re-
vival of the do-it-yourself
trend that has extended itself
into the Yuletide season and is
recapturing the true Christmas
spirit.
In bygone days — perhaps
even when grandma and grand-
pa were young, the gifts put
under the tree were often such
things as a pair of knitted mit-
tens, hand-embroidered linens,
hand-carved dolls, hand-sewn
doll clothes, etc., etc.
Today of course, young-
spirited grandmothers have
little time for crocheting and
grandpas are too busy on the
golf course to find time to
whittle.
But now more and more old-
sters as well as youngsters are
finding that there's an extra-
special joy in making specialty
gifts for loved ones, Gifts that
say "from me to you with love;'
express it more eloquently than
mink or rubies, because the
joy of making the present is
exciting.
All they need to complete
them is the personal touch that
helps return the old-time senti-
mental touch to the holiday.
Ingenious manufacturers
have designed kits that cover
almost the entire range of gift-
giving. There are jewelry kits
of bracelets, bangles, rings and
necklaces. For the amateur
artist, whether novice or ex-
pert, there are painting kits to
please every taste even to ex-
quisite oil paintings in luxurious
genuine velvet.
