Mr. Harry Metcalfe spent a
few days last week at Lion's
Head. He reported that there
was an 18" layer of snow on the
ground. We're sure glad he
didn't get carried away and lug
any back home with him; that's
a dirty word around here! Come
to think of it though -- it did
brighten the countryside and
make things look a lot cleaner!
Belmore was missing her two
general-storekeepers last week,
with both Harry Press and Roy
Diefenbaker in the hospital.
There is definitely no connec-
tion between the two confine-
ments and our wishes are the
same for both-- Get well and
quick!
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Dick-
son spent the week-end in Tor
onto, and attended the Winter
Fair there.
Miss Sharon Fitch spent the
week-end with Mr. and Mrs.
Brian Pyke of Gorrie.
Mr. Earl McNee, Harry Mul-
vey and Robert Searson were
among those who enjoyed a
vacation in the North last week-
end.
Members of the Darling
family gathered in the hall on
Saturday evening to honor Mr.
and Mrs. Arnold Jeffray on their
25th wedding anniversary. All
cousins of Mr. Jeffray, the clan
enjoyed a social time together.
Mr. Thomas Darling showed
pictures of a trip to Europe, and
Miss Isobel Darling showed pic-
tures of the Mildmay Centen-
nial and Expo. Mrs. Ralph
Dickson read a poetic address
which she had written, and Mr.
Russell Field presented Mr, and
Mrs. Jeffray with a mirror.
Lunch was served at the close of
the evening.
Mrs. Willard Haas of Peters-
burg and Mrs. Schwartzentruber
of Kitchener, visited on Satur-
day with their sister, Mrs. Roy
Diefenbaker.
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Johann
and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Wag-
horn, John and Joanne, all of
Owen Sound, Miss Connie Cam-
eron of Kitchener and Mr. and
Mrs. Ross McKague, Phyllis
and Jim, were Sunday guests of

anniversary
BELGRAVE-- On Saturday
evening a surprise dinner was
held at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Stanley Hopper in honor
of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Gar-
niss of Brussels who celebrated
their 25th wedding anniversary.
There were 30 relatives pres-
ent. They were presented with
a gift. The evening was spent
playing cards.
The first wagon road through
the Alps was begun in 1838 and
led through the Septimer pass.
One name Was omitted in
the United Church chair elec-
tiOnS last week. There were
three librarians, Mary Ann
Wheeler, Nancy Anderson and
rends. Johnston.
Mr, and Mrs, William Caul,.
tes and family visited with Mrs.
Kenneth Davis, who is a patient
in Stratford General Hospital.
Mr, Jerry Higgins of Strat-
ford spent the week-end with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rob-
ert Higgins,
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Arm -
strong of Hamilton visited at
the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Ro-
bert Grasby and Mrs, Dave Arm•
strong over the week-end.
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Marshall
and family of London spent the
week-end with Mr, and Mrs.
Stanley Cook.
Miss Martha Armstrong and
Mrs. Cora Messer of Windsor
visited with Mr. and Mrs. Wil-
lard Armstrong on the week-
end.
The Institute meeting will
be held in the Belgrave com-
munity rooms November 21st
at 2,15 p.m. Mrs. Garner
Nicholson is the convener. The
address will be given by Mrs.
Wilford Colclough. The lunch
committee, Mrs. Stanley Cook,
Mrs. Clarke' Johnston, Mrs.
Clarence Hanna.
Miss Marjory Hopper and her
girl friend, Miss Gladys Moon-
ey of Barrie spent the week-
end with Mr. and Mrs. Stanley
Hopper.
Mr. Frank Cardiff had the
misfortune of losing the tips of
two fingers last week by a corn
machine while working at
Mr. George Procter's.
The Edgar families gather-
ed at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Lewis Stonehouse on Saturday

Mr. Stewart Practer, reeve
of Morris Township, placed a
wreath at the cenotaph at Brus-
sels on Saturday morning for
the Morris Council.
Mrs. Stanley Halliday of
London visited with Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Higgins on Satur-
day.
Mr, and Mrs, Harold Rob-
erts and Mrs. Hilda Roberts of
Listowel spent Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Crosby.
Mr. Russell. White left for
Florida on Wednesday morn-
ing for the winter months, Mr.
Ronald Purdon accompanied
him as chauffeur and will be
returning in a few days by
plane.
Mr. Wayne and Keith
Pletch are on a week's hunting
;trip with Mr. Max Pleteh of
Atikoka, Ontario.
Japanese Consul General
Islittkawa, his wife and Vice
Consul Mr. Furuta from the
Japanese Consulate in Toronto
visited on Thursday afternoon
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
George Procter. On Thursday
evening Mr, and Mrs. Stewart
Procter entertained them at
dinner, also Mr. and Mrs.
George Procter, Mr, Kabota
and Mr. Ya.shino, agriculture
trainers of Japan.
Hi-C meeting
BELGRAVE-- The Hi-C met
in the church basement with
15 present. The meeting open-
ed with the secretary's report.
Rhonda Fear was appointed to
get song books in London.
A hymn opened the worship
service. Mary Grasby read
Scripture, Richard Anderson
and George Johnston received
the offering and Ruth Ann
Pletch led in prayer.
Discussion was on " Alcohol-
ism". Recreation was by Ivan
Wheeler and lunch was served.
Cub meeting
The Cub Meeting was open-
ed with the Grand Howl taken
by Kim last Thursday. The
boys enjoyed two relays led by
Linda Hastings (Chil) and Mr.
Roberson (Baloo). The Cubs
went into separate groups to
continue their star work such
as tying knots, doing crafts
and exercises.
The pack was reminded to
be at the armouries on Satur-
day, November 11th to line up
for the Remembrance Day par-
ade.
The following boys were
presented with badges; House
orderly, Allan Foxton, John
Kennedy and Richard Harcourt;
team player, Michael Vien-
eau; pet keeper, John Kennedy
and toymaker to Carl Lee.
The meeting closed with
the Grand Howl.

Mrs. Albin Weiler and family,
on the death of her brother,
Mr. Wilfred Lynet, in Freeport
Sanitarium last week-end. Mr.
Lynet was formerly a resident
