The glamorous, magical,
romantic city of Rome was the
setting -- and the glamorous
Sophia Loren was our tour guide.
And if that was for real, not
many people woul0 he looking
at Rome, I'm afraid:
"With Love...Sophia" was
the name of the show, and it
was a welcome visit by a
charming personality who sel-
dom adorns a television set.
She is a beautiful woman --
when one is looking -- and
twice as beautiful when you see
her charm and grace, the
warmth with which she greets
others, the beauty of her smile
when she entertains children.

they held it twice -- once for

Sophia herself, sang several
numbers on this show and al-
though s he will never make it
to the Met, she has a warm
and melodic singing voice.
Many of the songs, it seemed,
were written for her and her
alone; all were written special-
ly for this television production
by Gilbert Becaud, the Europ-
ean composer who wrote "What
Now, My Love?". In the songs
that Sophia did not sing, the
voice of American-Italian re-

heard. If you are a Bennett

tell you that!
Sophia's in-person guests
were comedians Peter Sellers

On Wednesday night the flag
was broken by Patrol Leader
Russell Foxton for the weekly
Scout meeting. There were 24
present, including three new
boys, Bernie and Jim Bailey
and Bob McDougall. This was
the annual Hallowe'en party
for the troop and many rousing
games were enjoyed.
The Scouts wish to thank
everyone for their co-operation
in the paper drive. Nineteen
and a half tons of paper were
collected and the money from
the sale of the paper will be
used for scouting equipment .
A special thanks is sent to all
fathers Who helped and mem-
bers of the community who
kindly donated the use of their
trucks.
The Scouts send their best
wishes for a speedy recovery to
Scouter Ted Ahara.
;American). and her Italian
leading man, Marcello Mast-
roianni. They go together like
peaches and cream, and the
number of successful movies in '
which they have played togeth-
er are evidence of this. One
of their hits was "Divorce, Ita-
lian Style".

Who is the "BIGGEST THIEF
IN TOWN?" Find out on
November 29 and 30. 2b
At the annual meeting of
the Ladies' Provincial Lawn
Bowling Association for Ontario
in Toronto last week, Mrs. A.
R. DuVal of Wingham was
elected president for a two-
year term. Mrs. M. L. Lott,
Whitby is vice-president; Mrs.
J. A. Clark, Toronto, secretary;
Mrs. T.G. Reason, Toronto,
treasurery Mrs. A.W. Webb,
Hamilton, championship con-
vener.
Mrs. DuVal served as No. 4
District chairman for several
years and is a well-known bottl-
er throughout Ontario. She has
six district championship pins--
two for singles and she twice
skipped winning teams in both
doubles and triples. She has
held 12 Western Ontario troph-
ies.
Active in sports most of her
life, Mrs. DuVal was one of
the first women to curl in the
old rink when it stood on the
Crawford Motors site. Her hus-
band taught her to shoot and
COMMERCIAL LEAGUE
Besides the BIG moose stor-
ies being told at the back of the
alleys, there were some big
games being bowled. Ladies'
single went to Lois Cerson with
212 (nice bowling Lois) and
triple to Dorothy Bain with a
557. Men's single of 294 was
bowled by Jim Bain and Bill
Crawford. I still haven't fig-
ured out how Bill can be so
good one game and then so
poor in another. Jim also had
a triple of 721.
The league wishes Isobel
Burke arid Dorothy Croskill a
in one season she shot 500
groundhogs with a .22 rifle.
She has held 11 golf trophies.
Mrs. DuVal has had a lot of
pleasure from bowling througli-
out the years and has found it
the most companionable sport
of all. It is less expensive than
most sports and is a game that
anyone can learn, at any age.
Mrs. DuVal says, "With
the work week becoming short-
er and shorter and psychoso-
matic Ulm sses on the increase,
health sciences, commtinftier r
and governments are alarmed, -
If people are to remain healthy
they must find and participate
in more active recreation."
The new president subscribes
to the idea that couples and
families who play together stay
together, and stay happy and
healthy. Her prime hope in
serving as president of the 125
ladies' lawn bowling clubs is
to inspire the members to at-
tract more people to this keen,
friendly and healthful game,
speedy recovery and hope they
will soon be ready to bowl
again. •
Team standings are: Ontario
23, Manitoba 19, Saskatchewan
19, Nova Scotia 17, British
Columbia 16 and Albert 12.
Thanks again to our spares,
Bill and Joan Crawford, Bill

Walden, Claire Harrison, Gary
and Shirley Storey, Lois Cerson,
Bill Dauphin and Lou Carmich-
ael.
LADIES' LEAGUE
We have decided to print
names of those who bowl over
225 so you girls bettei pull up
your socks and give us some
good games. The high single
this week went to Verna Steffler
with a 285. This was the only
game over 225 so there is. lots
of room for improvement.
One game worth mentioning
was bowled by Betty Foxton.
Betty is one of our new bowlers
and bowled a 202 game. Jean
McKay had a good night and
bowled a 218; no complaints
about that one, Jean.
The team standings had a
few changes. The Wheaties
have quite a lead with 28 fol-
lowed by Fluffs 21, Muffeis 21,
Cheerios 20, Trix 19 and Shred-
dies 18.

MIXED LEAGUE'
With some of the great
scores that were bowled last
week, it looks as though some
of the members of the Thurs-
day Night Mixed League have
hit their mid-season form
early. Gwen MacLaurin had
765 triple and a 296 single
sweep the honors in the lac'
department. Stewart Lee
captured both ends of tht.
honors with a 780 triple am.,
318 single.
Here are the standings: Hil-
da's Humbugs 33, Marilyn's
Maple Buds 29, Marg's Mints
