CHOOSE PATROL LEADERS
On Wednesday night the
weekly Scout meeting was held.
One of the main events was the
choosing of patrol leaders. They
are Ian Shepherd, Philip Beard
and Russel Foxton. The boys
were divided into their patrols
and sent to patrol corners, af-
ter which they enjoyed a sing-
song to close the meeting.
On Saturday some of the
boys met with Don Rintoul,
A.S.M. ay:I Brian Cameron,
A.S.M. at the public school to
go to the farm for work day.
In the morning they collected
wood and cleaned up the farm
house. The leaders, along with
the help of Dawson Pollock,
president of the group commit-
tee, finished shingling the farm
house roof. The Scout Troop
would like to thank Mr. Pol-
lock for his assistance, because
through his efforts light and
heat have been made available.
A great deal of work is still to
be done in painting the interior
and exterior of the farm house.
Saturday is the annual Apple
Day and we hope the Wingham-
ites help the Cubs and Scouts.
CUB MEETING
The first regular meeting of
the Cub Pack was held in the
new gymnasium of the Wing-
ham Public School. Sixteen
new boys registered, thirteen
New Chums and three by trans-
fer. Following the Grand Howl
and inspection Akela and Kim
led the boys in two rousing
games.
Akela took the New Chums
to introduce them to the Cub
program and present them with
white neckerchiefs to be worn
until they have passed their
Tenderpad requirements and are
invested as Wolf Cubs. The
rest of the boys practised tying
knots with assistance from all
the leaders.
Mrs. Roberson led the boys
in, a sing-song. The Cubs were
'told about Apple Day on Octo-
ber 14 and are to be decorating
their baskets for the big day.
The meeting closed with the
Grand Howl.
The typical boy learns to
walk in a year, and forgets how
to do so immediately upon re-
ceiving a driver's license.
MEN'S TOWN LEAGUE
Evidence of overstuffing was
not apparent as the Men's Town
League came up with 10 games
over the magic number 250.
The Rangers had a tough time
of it however, being white-
washed by the Maple Leafs.
Bill Johnston claimed the
high single with 316. Bob Fox-
ton outlasted Matt Boyd for the
high triple with '787. Matt had
784. Other good efforts: Ken
Saxton Jr. 261, Ken Simmons
250, Bill Brown 275, Hap Swat-
ridge 256, Matt Boyd 253 and
214, Bob Foxton 278 and 293,
Jim Thompson 263, Gary Stor-
ey 286, Ian MacLaurin 292,
Standings after 5 weeks:
Canadiens 25, Bruins 24, Ma-
ple Leafs 21, Black Hawks 14,
Rangers 13, Red Wings 8.

THURSDAY NIGHT
MIXED LEAGUE
It looks as if some of the
gang have hit their mid-season
form early. Hap Swatridge
captured the men's high single
with 316 and Ian MacLaurin
took the high triple with 797.
In the ladies' department Marg
Moffatt rolled a 247 for the
high single and Gwen MacLaur-
in took the triple with a 587,
Here are the team standings:
Hilda's Humbugs 21; Pat's Smar-
ties 17; Gail's Gumdrops 14;
Marilyn's Maple Buds 12;Marg's
Mints 12; Laura's Secords 8.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT
LADIES' LEAGUE
We have quite a few new
bowlers on the league this year.
We welcome them and hope
they enjoy their season of bowl-
ing. Thanks again to the spares
who filled in for us.
Some of the teams are really
piling up the points now and the
standings are: Wheaties 12; Trix
4; Fluffs 19; Muffets 10; Shred-
dies 11; and Cheerios 7.
Verna Sterner was marking
up strikes and spares in rare
form and took the high single
with a 270. She also took the
high triple with a 655.

COMMERCIAL LEAGUE
The aches and sore muscles
were all gone after the first
night's bowling and all teams
were trying to take an early
lead for the season. BritishCo-
lumbia took the most paints
bringing their total to 10. Sas-
katchewan also has 10, Ontario
and Manitoba 7, Nova Scotia 6
and Alberta 4.
Ladies' high single and triple
went to Dorothy Cameron with
304 and 642. I hope George
paid his debts for that single,
Dot! Jim Bain took both hon-
or's for the men with 269 and
748. Incidentally, Jim's dou-
ble was more than his wife's
triple -- one of the Bains needs
some practise!
Thanks to our spares, Bruce
Machan and Carl Goodyear.
And the league would like to
say hearty congratulations to
Carl and Ruth on their 35th
wedding anniversary.
