George Cox of Clinton is a
chipper. In fact, he is a par-
tially blind chipper.
You might think that a chip-
per is someone who works with
lumber, but no, he works with
strings - piano strings. Chip-
ping is something like piano
tuning. It is the rough tuning
of the cords before they are in-
stalled in the piano case,
George learned how to chip
as a student at the Ontario
School for the Blind in Brant-
ford. He has been employed by
the Sherlock Manning Piano
Company in Clinton for the last
eighteen years. D. M. Pegg,
plant director says, "Most of the
problems that George had at the
beginning were much the same
as any other employee. He re-
ceives equal pay for equal qual-
ity of work."
There was one problem that
George had, but it was solved
of their mother, Mr. and Mrs,
Archie Robinson.

by an employment officer with
The Canadian National Institute
for the Blind. Some parts of
the string case have a number
system which George could not
see. "The CNIB sent in a man
to give me training on how to
do this part of the job by touch':
George said. " The system has
worked out very well and has
allowed me to keep pace with
the sighted workers."
George is married, has two
sons, and leads a normal fam-
ily life. Beyond the library
service, George doesn't need
CNIB very much these days.
"But I know the CNIB is there if
needed. This gives me a real
linse of security."
You can make sure that the
CNIB "is there if needed" by
giving generously to the CNIB
annual financial appeal which
is now under way. Please mail
your donations to Frank Ma-
dill, Box 611, Wingham.

quite lively nature, as many
good ideas were expressed.
