On Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Conn, George, Muriel and Alma and Mr. and Mrs. Johnston Conn attended the wed- ding of Jim Johnstone, Park- hill, and Janet Nevill of Straf- fordville. The wedding dinner was served at Straffordville and the reception was held at the Vienna community centre. Jim's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Harold Johnstone of Parkhill. Mrs. Johnstone is the former Laura Conn of this locality and Harold's home was in Lucknow. The members from Chal Mers Presbyterian W.M,S, who attended the 80th birthday cele- bration of St. Andrew's in Wingham, were Mrs. John- ston Conn, Mrs. Robert Ross, Mrs. Jim McInnes, Mrs. Wes- ley Tiffin, Mrs, Frank Coulter and Mrs. D. MacDonald, On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons Fred Tif- fin, Russel Ritchie, Bob Orr, Wesley Young, Charles Taylor, Jamieson Pettypiece, Bill Scott, John Taylor, Cliff Young and his son and Russel Ross, held a work bee at Langside Cemetery where nine monuments were put on new bases. Mr. Wm, Brown spent a few days this week with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tiffin. On Friday all visited with Mrs. Brown, a patient in Wingham and District Hospital. Mr. Fred Fells of Toronto spent Friday evening with Mr. Russel Ritchie. On Saturday both returned to Toronto where Russel will visit for a few days. Miss Florice Leaver and Mr. Charles Leaver were in London on Wednesday where they visit- ed with his sister, Miss Amelia Leaver. Mrs. Victor Emerson on Monday was a dinner guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Currie and family. Mr. and Mrs. Russel Ross spent Tuesday in London. George was supplying for Mrs. Johnston Conn who last week had the misfortune to hurt her shoulder. Newton, Barbara and Danny were in Clinton on Sunday where they visited at the home George Cox of Clinton is a chipper. In fact, he is a par- tially blind chipper. You might think that a chip- per is someone who works with lumber, but no, he works with strings - piano strings. Chip- ping is something like piano tuning. It is the rough tuning of the cords before they are in- stalled in the piano case, George learned how to chip as a student at the Ontario School for the Blind in Brant- ford. He has been employed by the Sherlock Manning Piano Company in Clinton for the last eighteen years. D. M. Pegg, plant director says, "Most of the problems that George had at the beginning were much the same as any other employee. He re- ceives equal pay for equal qual- ity of work." There was one problem that George had, but it was solved of their mother, Mr. and Mrs, Archie Robinson. Holiday week-end guests with Mr, and Mrs. Vern Clark were Mr. Terry Clark or Den Mills, Mr. Dick Allan of North York and Mn, and Mrs. Fraser Pollock of 2rockville. Mr. and Mrs, Lloyd Weir, Karen and Calvin of Etobicoke spent the week-end with Mrs, W. Weir, Miss Gertrude Bush and Mr, and Mrs. George Gib- son. Friends of Mr. George West- lake will be pleased to learn he is progressing favourably in Wingham and District Hospital following surgery and we are sure he would appreciate visits or cards from friends as he is alone in the room. He is in room 228 on the second floor. Visitors during the holiday week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Fraser Haugh were Mr. and Mrs. Carman Nixon and family of London, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Newton Jr. and Michael, of Wingham. Some parts of the string case have a number system which George could not see. "The CNIB sent in a man to give me training on how to do this part of the job by touch': George said. " The system has worked out very well and has allowed me to keep pace with the sighted workers." George is married, has two sons, and leads a normal fam- ily life. Beyond the library service, George doesn't need CNIB very much these days. "But I know the CNIB is there if needed. This gives me a real linse of security." WROXETER—The October meeting of the Wroxeter Worn,- en's Institute held at the home of Mrs. William Wright, Tues- day evening, October 3rd, had an almost perfect attendance. The president, Mrs. Wes New- ton opened the meeting. Mrs. William Taylor pre- sented the study of Quebec which had been prepared by Mrs Joe Simmons. This study show- ed interesting facts about Que- bec and its fun-loving spirit which comes to light each year at Winter Carnival time. Mrs. Tom Burke gave the re- port on the opening of the Ar- chives at Goderich in June, at which Herbie Neil was guest of honor. Roll call, an improvement needed in the community, brought response of a varied and quite lively nature, as many good ideas were expressed. The highlight of the evening "A Trip to Expo" given by Mrs. Jim Alcorn, took many who had not been there through the var- ious pavilions and at the finish each one present had the feel- ing that all had shared in this great experience. Mrs. Clark Sharpin gave the courtesy remarks, and present- ed the speaker with a token of appreciation. Various members found they had articles suitable for the group project to be shown at Howick Fall Fair. Mrs. Wil- liam Taylor, Mrs. Dalton Dick- ison, Mrs. Laurie VanVelsor and Mrs. Wes Newton were named to set up the display, which took first prize in the fair on Saturday. Plans were finalized to make a trip to Collingwood on Octo- ber 11th, with members meet- ing at the home of Mrs. Tom Burke at 9 a.m. This year the euchre and bingo parties will be held every secorid Wednesday night, with the first to be October 18th.
