IN MEMORIAM
STOKES—In loving memory of
our dear mother, Mrs. Omar
Stokes, who passed away
three years ago October 7,
1964,
Our heart still aches with sad-
ness
Our secret tears still flow,
What it meant to lose you
No one will ever know.
When we are sad and lonely,
And everything goes wrong,
We seem to hear you whisper
Cheer up and carry on.
Each time we see your picture
You seem to smile and say
"Don't cry, I am only sleeping,
We'll meet again some day,"
Your place on earth no one
can fill,
We love you mother and al-
ways will.
—Lovingly remembered by
Sadie, Jim and families. 12b

DRIVE SLOWLY IF
YOU NEED A TUNE-UP
The passing ability of a car travelling 50 mph with
two occupants is reduced 17 percent when its engine needs
a tune-up — and another 3 percent when it's fully loaded.
This power loss in modern vehicles is dangerous in
today's traffic conditions when acceleration for lane chang-
ing and passing transports is a continuous part of highway
travel.
What causes the loss?
The greatest single source is usually electrical. Plugs
and points fouled with carbon impede the flow of the spark
that fires the gasoline explosions in the cylinders. The
timing of the spark is thrown off so that the power from
the combustion does not deliver its full thrust, despite the
consumption of greater quantities of fuel.
A plugged air filter is almost as common a fault in
untuned engines however. An engine developing 250 horse-
power consumes about 400 cubic feet of air per minute.
The carburetor measures the exact amount of air required
for the vaporization of the gasoline, but there must be
sufficient air as required or power and fuel economy loss
results.
In each mile of driving, each spark plug fires more
than a thousand times; the distributor points open and
close about 8,000 times and fuel pump pulsates about a
thousand times.7.
Depending on the type of driving you have been doing.
the mechanism of your engine needs cleaning and readjust-
ment every 5 to 10 thousand miles to maintain its power
and economy.
