S MEN'S TOWN LEAGUE.
The Wingham Bowling Lanes
have a new finish on them and
the Monday Men's League broke
them in, The regulars would
like to welcome the new bowl-
ers'and by this time they should
know everybody. After five
weeks of bowling we can guar-
antee it.
The six entries decided to
assume the names of the long
established N.H.L. teams and
after three games the standing
is as follows: Bruins 5, Canad-
ians 5, Maple Leafs 5, Black
Hawks 2, Rangers 2, Red Wings
2. Three teams tied for top
and the cellar. Good start.
The long summer lay-off was
apparent as not too many nota-
ble scores were bowled. Jim
Bain was in good form 280, 24:3,
247 for a nice 770. Ken Sax-
ton Jr. finished with a 291, Ross
Gordon 252 and Bill Johnston
268. Sorry Matt, we can't
mention your 249; Next week
this listing has to be longer.

This coming Friday evening
will again see the return of
Tommy Hunter to the CBC Tel-
evision network. Being shown
on the same night as last sea-
son and again being televised
in color, the show will star
Tommy, with much the same
group as before - The Rhythm
Pals, Debbie Lori Kaye, the
Allan Sisters, Jackie and Cora-
lee, Al Cherny, Jim Pirie,
Maurice Bolyer, the Country
Guys and Gals, and Bert Niosi
and his orchestra. There will
be some new faces on the other
side of the camera, though. A
new director, Terry Kyne, will
take over this season, and there
will also be a new choreograph-
er, Frank Rodwell. Kyne was
formerly with the late-night
show "Nightcap". "The Tom-
my Hunter Show" may never be
the same again! Let's hope he
remembers that Tommy's show
is prime network time and if
he is going to add the laughs,
let them be good ones that
everyone can enjoy. "Night-
cap" definitely was not a fam-
ily show.

A new face will be part of a
top U.S. show too, this one to
be seen in front of the camera.
He is David Canary, and lie
will be introduced on the sec-
ond show of the new "Bonanza"
series (Sept. 24). I guess the
top brass decided that they
needed a replacement for Per-
nell Roberts, or Big Adam as
he came to be known. Adam,
as the oldest Cartwright son,
could do anything - from fight-
ing the toughest gangster, to
wooing the most beautiful girl.
But Adam got tired of fightin'
and wooin', and left for more
variety of roles.
The Bonanza story had Ad-
am tripping off to New York to
make his fortune. Now enters
Canary, or as he will be known
on the show, Candy. He will
play a professional wanderer, a
guy who stumbles onto the Cart-
wrights when they are fighting a
gang of Indians, and stays to
help, and later 'moves in' as
one of the family. Canary is in

If you were watching "The
Saint", last Monday evening
(4th), you saw a familiar face.
It was Toby Robins, the former
Canadian actress who is now
working on stage and in tele-
vision in England. She didn't
look any different, in fact, was
very beautiful. But we have
seen her display her acting tal-
ent much better than that. The
series' star, •Roger Moore, must
affect her as he does all the
other gals who seemingly want
to fall at his feet. Personally,
I can't see why.

LAKELET—About 50 ladies
gathered at the ball Thursday
night for the regular September
meeting of the Lakelet Wom-
en's Institute. Guests were
present from Fordwich, Gorrie,
Wroxeter and Belli-lore. Mrs.
Harold Wallace, the president,
welcomed everyone.
The roll call was "Some-
thing I would like to learn".
The answers varied from book-
keeping to new hobbies for old
age. Delegates to the county
rally at Crediton on October 2
are Mrs. Jack Ferguson and Mrs.
Emerson Ferguson. There will
be a fashion parade and ladies
are to attend in centennial dress.
The ladies were informed
that the log cabin from the
float has been sold and will be
placed at a school in Norman-
by Township. It was purchased
by William Demler.
Mrs. Walter Demerling gave
an interesting talk on New
Brunswick.
The guest of the evening,
Harold Evans of Clifford, was
introduced by Mrs, A. Wylie.
He showed a film, "Food and
Famine". This gave the ladies
a great deal to think about. It
concerned the feeding of the
hungry in the world. He was
thanked by Mrs. Lyle Murray.
