Mr. and Mrs. Bob Searson and Cheryl of Wingham spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Searson on the B line, Now 95 schools for retarded GORRIE--Mrs. Jack Reavie, teacher at the school for retard- ed children in Wingham, was the guest speaker at the meet- ing of the Gorrie W.I. at the home of Mrs. Clarence Spar- ling. She spoke on "Retarda- tion and the world of the retard- ed child". She said the first school for the retarded was founded at Kirkland Lake 20 years ago. Now there are 95 schools oper- ating. She said the children are deserving of our care and help, and as they advance in school they are capable of do- ing errands after school and helping themselves, also of do- ing crafts, some of which are very beautiful. Mrs. R. Kil- patrick showed a film of child- ren at work. Mrs. Glad Edgar, convener of the "Citizenship" program, thanked the ladies and present- ed them with small gifts. Lunch was served by the lunch committee and hostess. -,-Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Daw, R. R. 3 Wing- ham, Sunday and Monday were Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Daw, Alan, Philip, Kelly and Tracy of Don Mills. Mr. Daw is now em- ployed with the North York Board of Education. —Mrs. Leander Boucher, Barry and Duane of Chatham are holidaying with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ab Nethery. —Mrs. Hugh Sinnamon, Minnie St., has been a pa- tient in Wingham and District Hospital during the past week. Shower for bride-elect at Brussels About 35 friends and neigh- bors gathered at the home of Mrs. George McCutcheon, of Brussels, on Friday afternoon to hold a shower for Miss Gwendo- lyne Martin who received many beautiful gifts. The bride-to-be and her mother were presented with cor- sages and then Miss Martin was seated in a pink and white, bal- loon and bell decorated chair. During the afternoon, bingo and other contests were enjoy- ed by the guests. A singing address by the group directed Gwendolyne about the house to where her gifts were hidden. Miss Martin thanked every- one for their gifts and invited them to see her trousseau and gifts displayed at her home. A tasty lunch was served by the ladies. --House guests with Mr. and Mrs. Colin Fingland of Cornyn Street last week were his sister, Mrs. Dr. Grierson and daugh- ter, Miss Doris of Toronto, and his brothers, Rev. Dr. Fing- land of Niagara Falls and Mr. and Mrs. John Fingland of Lon- don, Mrs. Jones of St. Thomas and Mrs. Townsend of Alliston. On Wednesday last they enter- tained former family friends from Goderich, Londesboro, Auburn, Blyth and Wingham. Former rector, guest speaker GORRIE—Rev. Douglas Vo- gan of London, a former rector, was guest speaker at a centen- nial service in St. Stephen's Anglican Church on Sunday af- ternoon when former parishion- ers and friends attended. The theme of his sermon was from the hymn, "God Moves in a Mysterious Way, His Wonders to Perform". The rector, Rev. Harold Jen- kins was in charge of the ser- vice. The Centennial Choir sang three anthems. Miss Gail Dinsmore was at the organ. Mr. Vogan was accompanied by his wife and two children. "The world is worse than it used to be," Mrs. A. M. Fra- lick of 350 Edward Street said when interviewed on her 87th birthday. Asked why, she re- marked that people are not as sociable as they were years ago when the world didn't go so fast. She felt many, but not all children are not made to be- have by their parents and that in many cases they have too much money to spend, but she did agree that schools are bet- ter and such things as electric- ity have been an improvement over years ago. Mrs. Fralick is in good health and is mentally very ac- tive, still able to recall a great deal from the past when she was a young woman, She is the last remaining member of her family of four brothers and three sisters, child- ren of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Clelland who immigrat- ed from Scotland and settled in the Lucknow district. Later her father moved to a farm near Salem in Culross Township where she grew up and went to school. Mrs. Fralick was married over 60 years ago and lived with her husband on the 6th of Mul- berry until his death about 20 years ago, when she moved in- to Wingham, residing in the same home since that time. Mrs. Fralick has two sons, George of Toronto and Wilburt of Port Rowan; two daughters, Mrs. Jean Yemen of Wingham and Mrs. Mary Brody, of Toron- to. Her birthday, which fell on July 5th, was spent with her daughter, Mrs. Yemen. Mrs. Jean McDonald and Miss Florence Edwards of Lon- don, Mrs. Reita Carson and Mrs. W. C. King have been on vacation at Sauble Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Lionel John- ston and boys spent last week at Expo in Montreal. Mr. and Mr Cliff Cook have also been on holidays and attended Expo. Mr. Alex Taylor has been a patient in the Wingham and District Hospital for the past few weeks. Mrs. Grace Inkster and Miss Arlene Inkster, Sudbury, and Mrs. Ilene Craig, Toronto, visited Saturday and Sunday with Mr. and Mrs, Irving Toner, Mrs. Alex. Taylor and other relatives. Mr. Gordon Edgar under- went surgery in Wingham and 1, THE AWARD FOR proficiency in bedside nursing was pre- sented at the Wingham and District Hospital nursing as- sistants' graduation exercises on Friday. Seen receiving the award is Miss Sharron Smith of R. R. 3 Owen Sound, and Dr. W. A. Crawford, who made the presentation. MISS JEAN MATTHEWS of Kitchener, was the recipient of the award for scholastic standing presented by Mrs. J. W.
