convention to
be in Port Elgin
The eeth annual convention
of the Ontario Historieal So-
ciety will be held in Pott Elgin
from June 15th to 18:11, Con-
vention headquarters will be
located in the Arlington Hotel
on Coderich Street and the con-
vention centre will occupy the
community centre on Green St.
Delegates from all over the
province will gather to hear the
presentation of papers on his-
torical topics, Speakers in-
elude: Robert W. Trowbridge
of the Althouse College of Ede-
cation; Prof, Charles W. Hum-
phries from the history depart-
ment of the University of Brit-
ish Columbia; Dr. Eugene For-
icy, director of research for the
Canadian Labour Congress and
Wayne Neal of the history de-
partment at St. Thomas Colleg-
iate. In addition, there will be
a number of interesting tours
arid panel discussions,
The annual banquet on Fri ,
day, will have as guest speaker
the Hoe, William S,
Minister of Education for the
Province of Ontario, This din-
ner will be highlighted by the
first presentation of the Cruike
shank medals, These medals,
which commemorate the work
of Brig. -General E. A. Crek ,
shank, are to be presented to
those historians whose articles
have been judged the best sub -
mitred to Ontario history in the
past year, One medal is to he
awarded to a professional, and
one to a nonprofessional his-
torian. There are also medals
to he awarded in recognition of
extraordinary service in the
field of Ontario history.

day they attended the funeral
of their aunt, Mrs, Edward
Young at lilkton, Michigan.
Mr, and Mrs. Dan Rose and
family of Guelph visited on the
week-end with Mt. and. Mrs.
Harvey Webb.
Mr, and Mrs. Warner Smyth
of Teeswater, Mr, Claude
Houghton of Toronto, Mr. Jas,
Little and Linda of Ash field
were Saturday evening visitors
with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Erring-
ton and family.

renovation fund
I3ELGRAVE--The May meet-
ing of the Women's Institute was
• held in the community centre,
with Mrs. Stanley Cook cone
electing the opening ceremony.
A donation of $66, 00 was given
to the Arena Board for the
renovation fund. The Institute
ladies will take a bus trip on
June 12 to the national con-
vention in Guelph,. The me-
morial service will be held July
2 et Brandon Cemetery, with
the members of the Anglican
Church in charge,
Mrs. Stanley Cook, Mrs.
Ivan Wightman and Mrs. Jack
Taylor were named delegates to
attend the district annual on
May 30 in the Ontario Street
Church, Clinton, "Pennies for
Friendship" collection was re-
ceived,
This was the agriculture
meeting with the theme, "Work
together, Live together, Strive
together", The roll call was
answered by imitating a farm
animal, Mrs. Norman. Coolres
led in the singing of "Old Mac„
Donald triad a Farm", The
motto "Farm Life Is Worth-
while" was given by Mrs, Her-
son Irwin, Mrs, Norman Cow,
tes read two poems, "A Farm,
er's Wife" and "Spring",
Guest speaker was Mrs, John
Gnay who gave the history of
agriculture in Huron County
from the time the land was
claimed until the present, She
told of the early settlers in East
Wawanoth, Melts and Belgrave,
Points of interest in her talk
were the installation of hydro on
the 3rd and 4th lines of Morris
tin 1.937 and the telephone as
early as 1888,
Mrs, Norman Coultes and
Mrs. Sidney Thompson sang
"This Land Is Your Land". Mrs.
Ivan Wightman thanked the
speaker. Mrs. Pierson Irwin
conducted two contests on the
theme and there was an ex-
change of slips and bulbs.
Lunch was served by Mrs. Stew-
ert Procter, Mrs. Nelson Hig-
eim and Mrs. Gordon Higgins.
REV. J. H. JAMES greeted a number of former parishion-
ers at St. Paul's on Sunday morning, among them Mrs.

Scrub potatoes and cook in boiling salted water (1 and
