HIGH SINGLE awards in the Junior bowl-
ing playoff competition were presented
Saturday by Mrs. Ken CerSon who helped
supervise the youngsters during the year.
Winners were Jay MacLaurin and Lynn
Foxton, bantams; back row: Ian Shepherd,
junior, and Stacie Desmarais and Rick
Gardner, intermediates.—A-T Photo.
One of the best "In Person"
shows that has been seen this
season was last week's half-
hour, with little Billy Van tak-
ing the emceeing reins and
leading the group through their
paces. Billy would be one of
the most talented people in
Canada, and a fine entertainer,
if the country would only give
him the chance. He has a fab-
ulous singing voice, much bet-
ter than lots of entertainers who
call themselves singers for want
of a better word. He is lively
and full of rhythm, which
makes him a spirited dancer;
and with the right material he
could become one of the coun-
try's top comedians.
His full name is Billy Van
Evera, and for the past number
of years he has been a member
of various singing groups, in-
cluding The Four Grads, and
his own group, the. Billy Van
Four, The lone gal singer in
that group, Patti, became Mrs.
Van; she was in the supporting
group of singers in this produc-
tion. Only recently has he
branched out into a solo act,
but he really shines at this sort
of thing. His guests were Don
Harron, the genius behind
"Spring Thaw", the revue-type
show that tours Canada each
year, and famed fat his coun-

'Tis
Show Biz
By Vonni Lee
try type of humour; folksinger
Leon Bibb; and singer Elan
Stuart who, in my estimation,
sounds better singing folk songs
than pop ballads,
Jackie Mason is treading on
thin ice when he entertains for
Ed Sullivan, and he knows it.
He is back on the show this
year after a few years of fend-
ing, fighting, threatening to
sue and dear-knows-what-else
that result'ed from one of his
routines that Ed considered in
bad taste. During his act last
week he directed the question
to his audience, "Is he laugh-
ing?" Luckily, Ed was! I real-
ly doubt if Jackie cares, though.
The publicity arising out of
that squabble probably was the
biggest break of his life. Next ,
time he's evicted, though, it
could mean by more people
than Ed Sullivan. He seems to
enjoy tearing people in public
life into little shreds!
One of the finest motion pic-
tures ever made, "Exodus" has
just been shown on the CBC
Television network, in two parts.
on "Great Movies" Based on
Leon Uris's best-selling novel,
"Exodus" is the story of an Is-
raeli underground leader who
takes a group of Jewish refugees
out of British camps on Cyprus
and illegally takes them to Is-
rael aboard the steamer 'Exo-
dus'. It stars Paul Newman as
the Israeli leader, and Eva
Marie Saint as an American
nurse also involved in the move-
ment. The cast includes Ralph
Richardson, Lee J. Cobb, Peter
Lawford, Hugh Griffith, Jill
Haworth and Sal Mineo. The
picture itself was hailed as
'best of the year', 'tremendous;
'poignant, suspenseful, and
with enormous impact'. Per-
formances by the cast were al-
so cheered, And of course, the
title song "Exodus" has become
an all-time standard,
