Second Class Honors — Fear Last week many of the com- mercial students were interview- ed by various insurance com- panies of Kitchener and London. Visiting the school were London Life, Dominion Life and Mutual Life. Those interested applied. Others will go into occupations also relating to the commercial course or to business college to further their education. Some of the positions which could be applied for are clerks or filing clerks, typists, ac- countants, legal and medical secretaries, bookkeeping, busi- ness machine operators and banking. Many other jobs are available too, Subjects such as shorthand, bookkeeping, law, business mathematics, office machines, and typewriting are quite im- portant to commercial students. In February, we were treated to a trip to London Life. The building was toured and all en- joyed the day very much. Leone Chambers, a 12E stud- ent, entered the Provincial Typewriting Contest in Listowel this winter. The contest was conducted by the Ontario Busi- The Mustang Corral BY DOUG ELLIOTT "Run Boy! Run!" These are familiar words around the track these days as the track team is preparing long and hard for the Huron-Perth Championship this year in Mitchell on May 9. Both boys and girls are spending ex- tra hours on the track in prepar- ation for the meet. Mr. Camp- bell, Mr. Stuckey, Mrs. Under- wood and Mrs. MacLennan are teaching the competitors the dos and don'ts of running in their attempt to gain the Huron-Perth crown (our Centennial Project for this year). Along with the track team the badminton teams are hard at work also preparing for the Huron-Perth Championship. Un- der the capable leadership of Mr. Stuckey the team members are drilling and drilling the tricks of badminton so the art of smashing a bird will be as common as saying Hello. By next week the House League scores in Badminton should be in and the League champions will be announced. So far it's a really close battle in both lunch hours, All these badminton scores go into win- ning the. House League trophy so be sure and put your best in- to it. That's about it as far as the sports at W.D.H. S. go but doret forget to read next week's Mus- tang Corral when more sports activity will be reported. An eye to the future Are you a former grad of W. (Summer holidays follow exams.) Student-teacher basketball game BY MARK WARDLEY 12A On Thursday of last week the students and teachers clashed for their annual basketball game at Wingham District High School. The junior and senior teams combined to meet the staff team composed of Mr. Wood, Mr. Jones, Mr. Simp- son, Mr. Roberson, Mr. Nor- wood, Mr. Locky, Mr. Aberle, Mr. Willis, Mr. Higgs, Mr. Bender and Mr. Taylor. The students and teachers even di- vided officiating jobs as Mr. R. A. Campbell and Dave Walsh wore the referee uniforms.' Before the game, however, a fine exhibition of badminton was put on by Mr. D. Stuckey and Bruce Boyd. Bruce won the first game 11-5 but lost to Mr. Stuckey in the second 11-9. As the contest started, the teachers could not seem to find themselves and as the buzzer sounded to end the first quarter they were trailing 9-3. In the second quarter things began to click for them as the score stood 18-14 at the end of the half. At half time four staff cheer. leaders, Miss Small, Miss Courts, Mrs. Ball and Mrs,Tif- fin, dressed in caps and gowns, gave us some rousing cheers, In the third quarter the teachers played well but still found themselves behind 30- 24. Determined not to be beat- en the teachers fought back to a 35-84 score in their favour, Mac Anderson still had a foul shot coming to him. He made it good, to end the game 35- 35. "Foster" Madill chose the three stars of the game. The first star was Mr. Jones because of his strong playing and great ability. It might be rioted, however, that he scored no points, The second star was Doug Mowbray for scoring the most points and third star went to Mae Anderson for sending the shot that tied the game. All in all, it was a very en4- joyable game but I wonder how many teachers made it to school the next day. BY DONNA MUNDELL 11A All that we do to others' lives, Returns in haste, to cut like scythes. From out the woods into the ville Ran Robby Wolf - but not for ill. He knew the hounds for him did hunt No time to lose in silly stunts. Wise Thomas Cat up high did sit, Spake softly Rob, "Now don't you spit, But tell me, Tom, where cant find A man nearby who's good and kind? Do you hear cries of howling dogs? They've chased me over hills and bogs. To someone's barn, I now must go, To hide from such a harmful foe." Said friendly Tom, "Try Mr. Kreep." And answered Rob, "I've killed his sheep." "Then what about old Rudolf Bloat?" "Oh not Last spring I ate his goat." "A kindly man is Joseph Jones." "I stripped his calf right to the bones." "To all these folks, you have done harm, Now you've no help in your alarm." The hounds caught Robby in one leap. "Whate'er one sows, that, he must reap." MRS. UNDERWOOD kept score at last week's student- teacher game. Mr. D. C. Stuckey looks worn out—prob- ably the result of his badminton match with Bruce Boyd. I'm sure the whole student body agrees that we owe a great deal to Malcolm Anderson who tied the game 35-35 in the last second by sinking a free throw.
