FORDWICH-The Ladies'
Auxiliary to Howick Legion met
in the Legion rooms for the Ap-
ril meeting. Mrs. George Ham-
ilton was in the chair. A social
evening with the Legion Branch
was planned for April 22nd and
the auxiliary will be in charge
of a booth at the centennial
dance to be held in Howick
Central School May 6.
A new Canadian flag and
gauntlets were purchased for the
auxiliary. Mrs. Betty Bradshaw,
a new member, was installed
by the Zone Commander Mrs.
Evelyn Carroll of Goderich.Mrs.
R. Robinson of Clinton, mother
of Mrs. Bradshaw and also a
member, had the honor of pin-
ning the badge on her daughter.
The zone commander gave her
talk stressing that members must
not measure in dollars and cents
how they can help their organi-
zation. She said, "Remember
that the veteran's service starts
at home. Continue to attend
church parades. The success of
your auxiliary depends on each
and every member."
Members discussed the cen-
tennial essay for Grades 7 and 8.
The mystery prize was won by
Mrs. Ken Underwood and donat-
ed by Mrs. Earl Moore. Specials
donated by Mrs. Ross Doig were
won by Mrs. George Hamilton
and Mrs. Earl Moore.
Lunch was served by Mrs.
Wm. Sothern and Mrs. Earl
Moore.

U.C.W. will hold
a garden party
FORDWICH--The afternoon
unit of the Fordwich U.C.W.
met in the Sunday school rooms
on April 13. The worship ser-
vice was taken by Mrs. Wray
Cooper who opened the meet-
ing with a salute to spring using
the poem "Springtime".
Mrs. Sam Johnston read the
Scripture lesson. Mrs. Cooper
based her meditation on "Lets
sing with a song in our heart"
and reviewed many of the best
loved hymns. Several of Chas.
Wesley's most familiar hymns
were sung. A solo, "The Beau-
tiful Garden of Prayer" was sung
by Mrs. Jack Wilson.
The study book "How the
Church Came to Eastern Can-
ada" was given by Mrs. Crosby
Sothern, Miss Minnie McElwain
and Mrs. Parker Eurig. Mrs.
Wray Cooper presided for the
business. Roll call was answer-
ed with a favourite hymn and
its composer. The U.C.W. has
started plans for a summer
smorgasbord garden party to be
held June 23rd. The ladies
quilted for missions during the
afternoon.

Lucknow students
raising funds
for Expo visit
Students of the Lucknow Dist-
rict High School will put on
their final drive this week-end
to bring their Expo fund to the
82,000 mark. They have al-
ready raised 51550. The com-
pleted fund will be used to fin-
ance a trip to Expo '67 schedul-
ed for May 7-11, for both staff
and students of the school.
The event this week-end will
be a combined rummage sale
and sale of home baking. The
sale of miscellaneous articles
starts at 7,30 Friday evening
and re-opens the following
morning at 10 o'clock. The
bake sale opens at one o'clock
on Saturday.
Principal Noel B. Mason says
the. students and staff have work-
ed with keen enthusiasm on the
entire project and it seems like-
ly that the whole student body
will be given an opportunity to
get to Expo.

Sandra Muriel Denniston,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvis
Denniston of Ottawa, became
the bride of Wilfred Joseph Cas-
kanette of Dartmouth, N.S.,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cas-
kanette of Wingham in a cere-
mony April 8 in St. Thomas
Aquinas R.C. Church at Ot-
tawa. Rev. F. J. French of-
ficiated. Jack Anderson wasor-
ganist. White mums and Easter
lilies decorated the church.
The bride was given in mar-
riage by her father. She wore a
white satin bridal gown and car-
ried a bouquet of gardenias.
Mrs. Maryanne Jean Lepage
of Toronto was matron of honor
and bridesmaids were 1-leather
and Edith Denniston, all sisters
of the bride. They wore yellow
satin gowns and carried Shasta
mums.
Don Caskanette of Guelph
was his brother's best man and
ushers were Carl James of the
National Defence Medical Cen-
tre in Ottawa and Jim Shaw of
R.R. 1 Bluevale.
The reception was held at
No. 9 Transport, Army Depot,
Ottawa, where guests from Po-
wasson, North Bay, Toronto,
Halifax, Wingham, Bluevale
and Guelph were received by
the parents of the bride and
groom.
The bride's mother wore a
pink dress with pink lace coat
and matching accessories and
the groom's mother wore a navy
dress with gold accessories.
Their corsages were white min-
iature carnations.
The bride's travelling cos-
tume was a light blue linen
dress with white accessories.
The couple will live in Dart-
mouth, N.S. where they are
both stationed with the Royal
Canadian Navy.

der, Listowel, spent the week-
end with Mr. and Mrs. Don
Cameron. They all attended
the Wilkinson-Hall wedding on
Saturday.
