Celebrating Christmas on

Howick township
council meeting
Howick Township Council
met on December 15. A grant
of $35.00 was given to the
Howick Recreation Committee
and the clerk was instructed to
purchase memorial plaques for
two cemeteries.
Cecil Wilson was appointed
as representative to the Listo-
wel Secondary School Board.
Council advertised for tenders
for the sale of the east part of
Lot 2, Centre Street in Wrox-
eter, with tenders to be in the
hands of the clerk by January 4.
The sale of the skeleton of the
Farrish Bridge was also adver-
tised with tenders to be receiv-
ed by the road superintendent
by January 4.
Recreation, road and gen-
eral accounts were passed for
payment.

Quite a few young people
from the community were pres-
ent Thursday evening at the
Christmas dance in the .40
school.

Christmas Eve with their par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Elwood

wood Groskorth returned to Tor-
onto.
The Y.P.S. on Christmas
Eve sang carols at many homes
in the village. The shut-ins
and older citizens enjoyed their
songs and wish to thank the
young people for remembering
them in this way.
Mr. Elgin Sleightholm of
Waterloo University is spending
the holidays with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Sleight-
holm.
Mrs. Allan Turner left on
the week-end to spend a month
with Mr. and Mrs. Richard Tur-
ner and family of Aurora, and
to visit friends in Toronto.

Present concert at
Bluevale church
BLUEVALE—The Presbyter-
ian Church Sunday School held
the annual Christmas concert on
December 16, with Rev. Hawks
as chairman. A large crowd
was in attendance. The super-
intendent is Ross Gray. Teach-
ers assisting were Mrs. Wm.
Elston, Mrs. A. MacTavish,
Mrs. K. Moffatt, Miss Phyllis
Grant and Mrs. Ross Gray.
Recitations were given by
Annett Dorsch, Duane Galley,
Marilyn, Carilyn, Bruce and
Glen Campbell, Sherry Anne
Robertson, Cathy Snell, Rich-
ard DeBoer, Rickie Timm,
Donald Ross, Sheila Walker,
Mary Ellen Elston, Eric and
Cameron Ross and Robin Brent.
The song, "Three Wise Men"
was sung by Hugh Ross, Glen
Campbell and Bob MacTavish;
David Golley played two guitar
numers,. "FIyte numbers were
given by Kathy Walker, Hugh
Ross, David Golley and Robin
Brent. Connie Mann sang a
solo and Sylvia Hawks played a
piano solo.
The senior class presented
the skit, "Merry Maiden's Club':
The program concluded with
the story of the nativity by Mrs.
Elston and Mrs. Moffatt's
classes.
Santa arrived and distributed
gifts from a well-laden tree.
Wins color TV
WHITECHURCH—The first
color TV was installed in White-
church on the week-end when
Mrs. Ezra Scholtz was the lucky
winner of the set drawn for at
CKNX.
Mrs. Scholtz obtained her
ticket at Greer's TV and Elec-
tric Shop in Luc know. The
community extends congratula-
tions to Mrs. Scholtz on her
good fortune.

University, Sudbury are holi-
daying with their parents, Mr.
and Mrs. W. B. Cruikshank.
—Miss Judith Forsyth, nurse-

Able Seaman Bill Hethering-
ton has returned to his ship, the
Margaree, at Halifax, after a
holiday with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. George Hetherington.
Parents wed
for 50 years
FORDWICH--A Newfound-
land couple married 50 years on
December 26th celebrated their
anniversary at the home of their
son and daughter-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Edward Sullivan, Lou-
isa St. in Kitchener.
Two other sons and their
families also celebrated with
them. The couple have spent
the summer with their son,
Horatio, in Fordwich. The
third son also lives in Kitchen-
er.
Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan were
married in Pouch Cove, near
St. John's, the capital of New-
foundland. They have five
other children who live at Pouch
Cove, David, James, Alfred,
Mrs. Robt. (Madeline) Nos-
worthy and Mrs. Doug (Violet)
Trenchart and 15 grandchildren.
One -daughter-died-several:years
ago.
The Sullivans plan to return
to Newfoundland after the New
Year.

Christmas Speaker
Rev. C. M. Jardine of the
Wingham United Church spoke
to members of the Wingham
Women's Institute about the
Christmas message at their
meeting in the council cham-
ber. Mrs. Olive Boss, presi-
dent, presided at the meeting.
The minutes of the last meet-
ing and the correspondence
were read by the secretary, Mrs.
Charles Shiell. Members an-
swered the roll call with "name
one thing we would have at a
Christmas dinner in 1867".
Miss Mary Hehn displayed some
homemade Christmas gifts and
decorated table centres.
A delicious lunch was served
by the hostesses, Miss Janet
Murray, Mrs. McLaughlin, Mrs.
Gregory and Mrs. Shiell.

has been visiting at the home

rick of Arkona are visiting at

in Toronto.
