Chalmers COC
hold meeting
WHITECHURCH—Chalmers
Presbyterian C. O.C. held their
December meeting on Sunday
during church service in the
Sunday School room. The
president, Janie Laidlaw, pre-
sided and gave the call to wor-
ship. "Away in a Manger" was
sung.
The Scripture was read by
Doris Fisher. Cecil DeBoer led
in prayer.
The minutes were read by
the secretary, Jim DeBoer. The
roll call was answered by 25
with something pertaining to
the Christmas story. The offer-
ing was received by David Ross
and prayer was given by Paul
Elliott,
Mrs. Earl Caslick gave the
junior story. Stories for the
seniors, "Happy Birthday" and
"What Happened to a Christmas
Tree and Christmas" were giv-
en by Mrs. Hugh Simpson.
"Holy Night" was sung by all
and the closing prayer was giv-
en by Linda Mewhinney.
Husband: "Are you ready
yet, dear?"
Wife: "I wish you'd stop nag-
ging me. I told you an hour
ago I'd be ready in a few min-
utes."

WHITECHURCH--On Satur-
day evening Langside Commun-
ity Hall board members held a
community Christmas concert.
The chairman for the evening
was Arnold Scott.
The pageant, "Let Us Wor-
ship" included shepherds, an-
gels, wise men, the baby Jesus,
Mary and Joseph, along with
the singing of many carols by
the audience.
Murray Moffat played ac-
cordion solos. Nancy DeBoer,
Ferne and Ingrid Kragt sang
Christmas numbers. Mr. and
Mrs. Philip Steer sang "OCome
All Ye Faithful", accompanied
by Mrs. Bill Scott as pianist.
Rickey Conley gave a reci-
tation. Miss Janette Johnston
and Miss Sandra Procter sang
"Nuttin for Christmas" with ac-
tions. Miss Carolyn McGillvary
gave a Christmas piano instru-
mental.
Evelynn and Lou Anne Brooks
sang a Christmas duet, Recita-
tions were given by Marty and
Jamie Young.

Brick U.C.W. met last Wed-
nesday at the home of Mrs,
Mina McRitchie of Wiugham
with 20 ladies in attendance.
Mrs, Alex Robertson gave the
call to worship.
The minutes were read by
Mrs. Sidney Thompson. Mrs.
Norman Coultes and Mrs, Law-
rence Taylor were appointed to
be in charge of the World Day
of Prayer on February 10th and
to arrange for a speaker. The
special fund plates are request-
ed to be in as soon as possible.
Reports were given on fin-
ances by Mrs. Ken Mason; citi-
zenship, Mrs. Gordon McBur-
ney; membership and commun-
ity friendship, Mrs. Norman
Coultes; supply, Mrs. Lawrence
Taylor; stewardship, Mrs. Ma-
son Robinson; treasurer, Mrs.
Ronald Coultes; literature, Mrs.
Gilbert Beecroft. It was decid-
ed to order the clip sheets for
another year.
All were asked to make can-
dy and cookies to be delivered
to Mrs. John Currie for a Christ-
mas box for Mr. and Mrs. Geo.
Coultes, residents of Huronview,
Clinton.
Mrs. Alex Robertson declar-
ed all offices vacant and Mrs.
Gilbert Beecroft called on the
chairman of the nominating
committee, Mrs. George Mc-
Gee, to give her report.
Mrs. Alex Robertson read a
letter from Five Oaks requesting
funds to assist with the work.
The offering was received and
dedicated by Mrs. George Mc-
Gee. Christmas carols were
sung. "Christmas in Canada in
1867" was read by Mrs. George
McGee and she also gave the
Bible study and led in prayer.
Mrs. Mason Robinson read
the Scripture.
TWO-WAY VISION
Swimming along in fresh
water without spectacles, the
anableps, a tropical fish, is
truly a four-eyed specimen.
This live-bearer, which some-
times grows a foot long, has
unusual divided vision. Its eye
resembles that of a frog, ex-
cept that the upper portion is
adapted for sight in the air,
while the lower is for vision in
the water.
Clark Johnston, accompani-
ed by Mrs. Bill Scott, sang
"Off to Dublin in the Green"
and "There's Always Something
Sure to Tickle Me".
A quartette, Frank McKen-
zie, Gordon Wall, Philip Steer
and Bob Bregman, accompani-
ed by Mrs. Scott sang "Joy to
the World" and " Holy Night".
David and Douglas Wall with
the saxaphone and guitar play-
ed Christmas numbers.
Miss Muriel Conn danced the
Highland Fling. A dialogue,
"Fooling a Salesman'", was pre-
sented by Marion, Janice and
Douglas Wall. Russel Young
gave the recitation, "Early Ris-
ing" and Agnes Conley and Ken-
dra Donaldson sang "Jingle
Bells".
Mrs. Victor Emerson gave
readings, "A Letter to Santa",
"Santa Claus", "Ages of Wom-
en", "Don't Blame the Child-
ren" and concluded with a story
for people over 50.
The singing of the Queen
closed the concert after which
lunch was served. It was an-
nounced that a euchreparty
would be held on Dec. 28th in
the hall.
St. Helens
Mrs. Roy Hawley, Leslie
and Pamela of Oshawa are visit-
ing with her father, Lorne
Woods, and her mother who is
a patient in Wingham and Dis-
trict Hospital. Roy spent the
week-end here.
LOCAL RED CROSS
MAKES DONATION
GORRIE—The Gorrle and
district Red Cross Society has
donated $100 to aid the Charles
Moore family of Wroxeter,
whose home was destroyed by
fire recently.
