The untimely death of Walt
Disney, one of Hollywood's
best-known film creators, has a
local interest much beyond his
great contribution to the world
of entertainment. His father,
Elias Disney, was born on a
farm in Morris Township near
Bluevale and his father's sister-
in-law was married to Peter
Cantelon, an uncle of Leon
Cantelon of Wingham.
Elias Disney received his
early education at the Bluevale
public school and later attend-
ed the old Central School in
Goderich (now the Huron Coun-
ty Museum building).
When Walt Disney's father
was about 18 years old, in
1877, the family moved to El-
lis, Kansas and later to Chica-
go, where Walt was born. The
great movie magnate paid a
visit to the family home sites
in Huron County in 1947 and

Christmas party
held for Cubs
The Wingham Cubs enjoyed
a Christmas party last Thursday
in the gymnasium of the United
Church. Following some ac-
tion games Bernie Wehmeyer
told of Christmas in Germany
and Kaa told of Christmas in
Holland. In both countries
Christmas Day is a day for go-

whether it is Sunday or not.
Refreshments were served
while presents were exchanged.
Two interesting films were
shown by Scout Leader Don Rin-

Cub organization.
The next Cub meeting will
be on January 5th.

THIS FAMILY PICTURE was taken in Holly-
wood when Peter J. Cantelon, of Goderich,
right, visited the Disney family in 1938.
From the left are Walt Disney's brother and
sister, Roy and Ruth, Walt, his father, Elias
Disney, Peter Cantelon, and Robert Disney,
an uncle behind Mr. Cantelon.
Famous movie-maker dies
Disney family had roots in Bluevale area
here have visited him in Holly-
wood.
STARTED SMALL
His movie empire was start-
ed in a very small way with
animated cartoons, one of his
earliest and most famous char-
acters being Mickey Mouse,
closely followed by Donald
Duck and a host of others which
were so dear to the hearts of
children and adults alike.
His first venture into feature-
length films was the all-car-
toon picture, "Snow White and
the Seven Dwarfs" and this was
followed by many others until
the production of "Mary Pop-
pins" recently. His movies
covered nature subjects and
dozens of other subjects of wide
interest. In 1950 he broke into
the television field and appear-
ed personally on hundreds of the
programs which followed. His
contribution to the education
and culture of our times has
been tremendous.
