Messengers hold
December meeting
WHITECHURCH—The Mes-
sengers held their meeting on
Sunday in the United Church
Sunday School room during
church service,
The president, Brenda Solo-
man, gave the call to worship,
Christmas carols were sung,
Charles Thompson read the
Scripture and prayer was given
by Earl Thompson. Mrs. Dave
Gibb gave a story. The offer-
ing was received by Bradley
Soloman and dedicated by Lin-
da Purdon.
The minutes were read and
the roll called by Thelma Pur-
don. There were 2o present,
It was decided to leave the pur-
chase of a gift to be presented
to the church until there was
more information on prices.
Mrs. George Mitchell gave
a story, "The Little Negro Boy
Protected by a Guardian Angell

evening the community gather-
ed at Whiteehureh Community
Memorial Ball to honor Mr, and
Mrs. Robert Henderson and fam-
ily who are leaving to live in
London, where Mr, Henderson
has obtained work similar to his
position at the RCAF station at
Centralia, which is now closed.
Dancing was enjoyed and af-
ter lunch Mr. and Mrs. [lender-
son were called to OW platform.
Jamieson Pettypieee read an
address and Wallace cOnn pre-
sented them with a gift oilnOn-
ey,
Bob thanked all for the gi:t
and the social time. Dancing
again resumed until closing
rune.
Book-keeping is the art of
never lending them to forgetful
friends.
WHITECI lURCI1,--Mrs, Gar-
net Farrier played quiet music
as U.C.W. members gathered
at the church Wednesday of last
week for their December meet-
ing,
Mrs. George Thompson pre-
sided and gave the call to wor-
ship, Mrs. Gibb gave a read-
ing, "Lighted Candles" and
Mrs. Thompson gave a Christ-
etas reading, Carols were sung.
The Scripture was read by Mrs.
Dave Gibb.
A litany was given by Mrs,
George Thompson to which the
audience replied. Sentence
prayers were given by Mrs.
Cliff Laidlaw, Mrs. Bob Laid-
law, Mrs. E. Sleightholm, Mrs.
Albert Coultes and Mrs. Carl
Weber, Quotations from Luke
were read by Mrs. George
Thompson.
The topic, "Community
Friendship and Visiting", was
given by Mrs. Dave Gibb who
dealt with attitude towards
visiting the sick and bereaved
and pointed out ways to have
fellowship. Mrs. Chapman
gave a reading, "Who Cares?"
Mrs. Gibb gave a talk, "Why a
'Teenage Dropout Talks Back",
Mrs. George Mitchell gave
a reading on visiting which
taught one how to help mental-
ly disturbed. She also gave a
Christmas reading. Mrs. Gar-
net Farrier gave -4 musicalmel ,
ocly which concluded with "Star
of the East".
Mrs. Mitchell presided for
the business. A vote. of thanks
was tendered the buying com-
mittee for supervising the paint-
ing of the church auditorium.
Thanks was read for a gift sent
to Mrs. Gordon Naylor, who
had moved to Auburn. Roll call
was answered by, "A Christmas
tradition in your borne",
Officers elected were presi,
dent, Mrs, Ezra Schoitz;. Lst
vice, Mrs. Garnet Farrier.; 2nd
vice, Mrs. Russel Gaunt, Mrs,
'Elmer Sleightholtn was appoint-
ed to look after the cards.
All. other officers remain the
same for another year.. It was
decided to continue with the
travelling basket.
Reception held
for newlyweds
WillTECUURCII—A recep-
tion was held on Saturday eve-
ning for Mr. and Mrs. Stacey,
newlyweds, of Wingham. Mu-
sic for dancing was supplied by
many friends and a pleasant
time was enjoyed. The newly-
weds had their cake on display.
Many gifts were received as
well as a gift of money con-
tributed at the door. At lunch
time the young couple thanked
their friends for holding the re-
ception.
