If .there was ever a time when "Preventative Mainten-
ance" returned a profit on the investment, that time is now.
When the temperature declines below 0:F. an important
change takes place in your engine. Water that stays in the
air as humidity in warm weather, changes to liquid in bold.
It forms as frost on crankcase walls and melts into the oil.
This water in your oil creates acid that eats into cylinder
walls. And sludge—a sticky varnish that gums up oil pas-
sages and cuts off oil flow. Both build up quickly with
start-stop runs.
Left unattended, this gummy oil will ruin a new engine
in a season.
The change period of oil in the' winter season in the
Wingham area is a minimum of 30 days. Your filter also.
If your car is used constantly on start-stop runs, ignore
even the 30-day recommendation and change it when it be-
comes dark brown.
The value of a used car rests in the UNUSED mileage
left in it. It ,is readily measured by an experienced apprais-
er in, a test drive. Definitely by a compression test.
If you look after your car, a quality dealer will give you
a premium price for it because he can re-sell it to one of his
customers, confident it will serve them well. See you next
