Lakeiet Personals Family Night Pot Luck Supper,Program BELGRAVE—The November Meeting of the evening unit of the t.C,W, was held at the home of Mrs. George Johnston on Thursday with 16 present, Mrs, Murray Scott gave the call to worship and prayer. Scripture was read by Mrs.Lau- ra Johnston. Mrs, Scott read a meditation entitled "Adventure on Him", and led in prayer. Mrs. Albert Rieman, leader, conducted the business. Min- utes and roll call were read by Mrs. Jack Higgins. The penny collection was received and eight home and 11 hospital visits to the sick and shut-ins recorded. Mrs. Bieman and Mrs. Laura Johnston expressed their thanks for cards from the groups and individuals. Mrs. Jack Taylor announced that the bale will be sent in December and articles should be in immediately, She also announced a work bee for Mon- day to clean the church in readiness for the new caretak- ers, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Or- In. The group still has ice cream to dispose of, Mrs. Wil- son thanked the group for the money she received for the manse. The next meeting will be held December 18 at the home of Mrs. Wm. Coupes. Mrs. Ross Anderson said the group will sell Christmas cards and use the proceeds for another coffee pot for the church. Mrs. George Michie led the mission study and spoke of Rev. Lawrence Purdy, a minister in the United Church and cartoon- ist for the United Church Oh- Mrs. Ken Dettman visited with Mr. and Mrs, Leslie Ed- wards of London on Thursday of last week, Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Angus of Wingham visited with Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Gadke on Sun- day. Mr. and Mrs. Ray McIntyre servor. She read an article from the book, "Dead or Alive.; on alcoholism and drug addic- tion and a playlet was present- ed on this subject with Mrs. Jack Taylor and Mrs, Cliff Lo- gan taking part. A hymn fol- lowed. Mrs. William Coultes con- ducted the Bible study on the chapter, "The Kingdom of Heaven". This completed the book,The Word and the Way. Recreation in the form of charades was led by Mrs.Coul- tes and lunch was served by Mrs. Ross Anderson and her group. of Owen Sound visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Charles Scott on Saturday, Mr. and Mrs, James Inglis attended the Kreeplin-Ernewein wedding at the Roman Catho- lie Church in Walkerton on Saturday, November 12, Week- end visitors at the Inglis home were Mr. and Mrs. Vernon In- glis and Kevin of Toronto, Mr. and Mrs, D. MacKinnon of Paisley and Jim Inglis, Guelph, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Wallace and children of Beaverton were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Stan Dennis. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Harkness on the birth of their first grandchild, on Saturday, when a son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Harkness of Guelph. We extend sympathy to Mrs. Stanley Dennis who received word on Sunday of the serious illness of her sister in the Guelph General Hospital. WIIITECHURCH—The regu,- tar meeting of the Women's In- stitute combined with Com- munity Family Night was held Wednesday in the Community WI. Members Take Course LAKELET—The first meet ,. ing of the course, "Hats for You", was held at the Lakelet W.I. hall on Thursday. This course is provided by the Home Economics Branch of the On- tario Department of Agricul- ture and Food, and is sponsored here by the Lakelet Women's Institute. The course consists of hat etiquette; choosing a becoming hat; choice of proper materials and the technique of combin- ing them. Eleven members of Lakelet W.I. are taking the course. Memorial Hall. A pot luck supper was held at 7 o'clock with the East Group, Mrs.Frank Ross, Mrs. Russel McGuire, Mrs, Jim Currie, Mrs, George Wal- ker, Mrs. Ed. Walker, Mrs, El- gin Johnston and Miss Mary ilehn as hostesses, Mrs, Win, Evans presided for the meeting. The minutes were read by the secretary, Mrs. V. Emerson. Correspondence included a thank you letter from the Wingham branch of the Cancer Society for gifts donated, notice of 4-H Achieve- ment Day at Lucknow High School on December 10, and summary day for "More About Finishes" at the Presbyterian Church in Walkerton on Novem- ber 22. John Gibb played piano solos, "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers" and "Something to Sing About", Mrs. Russel McGuire and son Lee sang "Whispering Hope" and "Beautiful Isle of Some- where", accompanied on the piano by Mrs, Nelson Pickett, Miss Joan Currie, accompanied by pianist Mrs. Garnet Farrier, sang "Sixteen, Going on. Seven- teen" and "Climb Every Moun- tain". The roll call was "What I think of the Women's Institute" and was answered by husbands of the members. There were some very humorous replies but all thought the W.I. .a bene- ficial organization. It was de- cided to have the December meeting a week ahead, which is December 6. A skit, "The Mock Wed- ding", was presented by east group actors, Mrs. Frank Ross, Mrs. Elgin Johnston and Gra- ham, Mr. and Mrs. Russel Mc- Guire and Bryan, Elmer, Lee and Larry, Miss Mary Hehn, Mrs. Jim Currie, Mrs. Ed.Wal- ker, Mrs. George Walker, Mrs. Jack Burchill and Mrs. Nelson Pickell. Mrs. Dan Tiffin gave piano solos, Mr. Russel McGuire played violin solos, accompani- ed by pianist Mrs. Nelson Pick- ett. The guest speaker, George Gear, Bruce County agricultur- al representative, was introduc- ed by Mrs, Russel Gaunt. The theme of Mr. Gear's address was "The Position of the Fanner Today", He said so many people say "Things aren't good. Why doesn't somebody do something?" You have to be a better than average farm- er today or you can't make it go. If you are going to keep people on the farm you must show them it is a way of life to earn a living. His advice was, "Do the best you can with what you have, where you are." Mrs. Garnet Farrier thanked Mr. Gear and all others taking part in the program.
