The firemen held their first
social evening last Wednesday
to begin the winter season. Eu-
chre was played. Mrs. Ernie
Merkley won high for the la-
dies, and Ken Foxton for men,
The team of Mr. and Mrs. Gor-
don Welwood were good for the
low prizes. The draw prize
was won by Lorrie Gardner and
at the conclusion lunch was
served. Thanks to the conven-
-crs Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Hickey,
assisted by Lynn Hickey, Guests
were Mr. and Mrs. W. Bain.

The firemen are almost fin-
ished with their annual Muscu-
lar Dystrophy Drive and a re-
port on the donations will be
made known as soon as the re-
turns are completed. The fire-
men are grateful for the wel-
come and manner in which they
are always received when call-
ing on the community for this
worthy cause, and for the dona-
tions received. Thank you.

stalling a heating system in the
home. He is going to have an
easy winter — no ashes, no
fuel to carry, etc., etc. Must
be getting older.

the Sheriff of Huron County this
week. No crime, just there for
an afternoon as a good citizen,
but he was not called for jury
duty so they sent him home.

Huron County Fire Associa-
tion meeting will be held on
November 14 in Exeter. Many
interesting subjects are discuss-
ed at these meetings and now
that Huron County is under the
Mutual Aid plan there is a clos-
er tie with other fire depart-
ments and firemen. Their prob-
lems and ours are discussed to
the benefit of everyone. Only
a limited number of the brig-
ade attend each of these meet-
ings, but in time all will have
the opportunity.

son entertained on Saturday for
a birthday party in honor of her
father, Mr. Arthur Moore of
Whitechurch, on the occasion
of his 85th birthday. Those at-

Mr. and Mrs. Walter James and
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Moore,
Lucy Ann and Steven, all of

nes attended the funeral of Mrs,
,A, Agar at Mount Forest.

spent the weekend with Mr.
and Mrs. Jack King of Strathe

Plans Underway
For Centennial
GORRIE—Harold Robinson,
township reeve, presided at a
meeting Wednesday evening in
the Howick Central School to
discuss plans for the celebration
of Canada's Centennial Year.
Representatives from most of
the organizations in the town-
ship were in attendance.
Many suggestions were
brought forward for the date and
place for the celebration. A
formal opening of the new mu-
nicipal office, a special church
service, picnic and home im-
provements were some of the
ideas given.
Another meeting is being
held November 16th in the same
place for further arrangements.

eter, on Sunday,

WHITECHURCH—On Mon-
day evening the Langside Com-
munity and friends and relatives
from other places gathered at
the Langside Community Hall
to honor Mr. and Mrs. Russel
Ritchie, who have sold their
farm and moved to their home
in Whitechurch.
The evening's entertainment
was cards. There were 10 ta-
bles in play. High lady was
Mrs. Wesley Tiffin; low lady,
Mrs. Bob Henderson; high gen-
tleman, Eugene Conley and
low gent, Farish Moffat.
Lunch was served and then
Mr, and Mrs. Ritchie were seat-
ed at the front of the hall while
Mrs. Ted Collyer read an ad-
dress and Ted Collyer and Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Scott presented
them with a coffee table and
end tables.
Mr. and Mrs. Ritchie both
replied, thanking those present
for the social time and for the
lovely gifts,
