was cool and wet almost every
day of the International Plow-
ing Match, with the exception
of Friday which was a lovely
autumn day, our locality was
well represented. Few there
are in this community who have
no tales to tell of being stuck
in the mud, losing toe rubbers,
buying rubber boots and canes
to keep them from falling in
the slippery mud, or the joy of
riding on the muddy wagons
drawn by tractors which took

Hargrave attended the recep-
tion at the Blue Barn, Listowel,
on Saturday night for Mr. and
Mrs. Dennis Durbrick who were
married on Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Norman Harding
and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Camp-
bell were in Blyth Friday night
where they attended a banquet
in honor of the Grand Master of
Grand Black Chapter of Ontario
West, Mr. Oliver Jacques of
HensaIl. Mrs. Jacques was pre-
sented with a corsage and Mr.
Jacques with an aluminum tray,
Mr. Wm. Campbell was chair-
man for the evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brase of
California spent last week with
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Ashton. Mr.
and Mrs. Ross burst and family
of Bay Ridges were Sunday
guests at the same home.
Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Stelp-
stra of Marrum, Holland, who
have been visiting for four
months with their daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clar-
ence Boonstra, returned home
over the week-end by plane
from Toronto International Air-
port.
Mrs. Mary Gollop of Col-
lingwood is visiting for a few
weeks with Mr. and Mrs. John
Inglis.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bast
spent one day last week with
friends in Hanover.
Mr. Arthur Forester returned
home last week after spending
some time with his daughter
and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Ross Tolman in Fort Erie.

Guild Donates
To Church Funds
FORDWICH— St. Anne's
Guild met at the home of Mrs.
Lyle Simmons for the October
meeting. Mrs. Peter Browne
presided.
Mrs. Dave Dinsmore read a
chapter from the study book on
the Thanksgiving theme. Mrs.
Wm. Sothern gave the financial
statement and reported a profit
of $165.00 from the fair booth.
It was decided to order
enough cups and saucers to re-
place cracked ones. The Guild
members received an invita-
tion to attend Gorrie W. A, on
October 20th when Rev. George
Hamilton would be guest speak-
er. Quilting is to be held Oc-
tober 25. It was decided to cut
down on lunches at the meeting
and only serve sandwiches or
dessert.
The motion was male to
donate $200.00 to the church
funds.
Rev. H. Jenkins spoke and
recommended the book, "Life
Together", as good reading for
members. Rev. Jenkins closed
the meeting with prayer.
Lunch was served by the hos-
tess assisted by Mrs. Roy Sim-
mons,
W.I. DOES WELL
A T CATERING
LAKELET -Eight members
of Lakelet Women's Institute
assisted at the W.I. tent rest-
aurant at the International Plow-
ing Match At Scaforth on Wed-
nesday and four members assist ,
ed again on Saturday. While
the inclement weather did have
an Adverse effect on attendance
the W.I. tent did a rushing business serving full course
meals to officials as well as
the general public.
