Six large buses, five sta- tion wagons and a van-type truck will be needed to carry the 260-odd Scouts, their lead- ers and the necessary camping gear. The convoy will leave Wal- kerton on the last day of June, 1967 to spend the first of July,. Canada's official 100th birth- day, in Ottawa. From there the boys will go on to Expo '67 in Montreal and thence through Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Is- land, a trip which will take three weeks in all. Wingham is sending a good- sized contingent of both Scouts and leaders on the trip as are other centres in the Saugeen District, stretching from Pais- ley to Wingham and from Lake Huron east to Durham. One of the existing problems at the moment is lack of a few leaders. Each Scout troop which is sending boys on the trip must also provide one or more leaders, depending on the number of Scouts who are go- ing. In a few cases the neces- sary leaders have not been pro- vided, but it is expected that these gaps will be filled within the next few weeks. Purpose of the Centennial Tour is to give a large group of Ontario boys a broader under- standing and appreciation of the size and grandeur of their own land and to provide them with an opportunity to meet and know boys from other parts of Canada. HOW MUCH HORSEPOWER DO YOU NEED? Keith McClure You need enough to give you a reserve of safety. That's power at low to medium speeds for passing, ae- eelerating out of dangerous situations and climbing hills. This reserve is substantially above the power required for normal driving. Contrary to general belief, and many so-called safety au- thorities, you need very little of it for high speed. Only a minor portion of the rated horsepower is used for actual driving. Of 200 rated horsepower, for instance, as little as 35 is normally used to propel the car. Horsepower ratings of an engine are taken from the' amount of power developed by an engine when it is re- volving at maximum speed. Reductions of speed result in lees horsepower being developed. There is an average drop of 50 horsepower from maximum when a car is driven at normal speeds of 60 mph, Atmospheric Conditions may reduce horsepower 5 percent. Power Steering, air conditioning, transmission and rear aide friction another 10 percent. The power needed to operate the generator, fan and fuel pump and the heat loss from the plugs. exhaust and drag from the muffler and air cleaner collectively total around 20 percent, Underinflated tires and faulty wheel alignment are rated as high sources of power loss. This leaves a reserve of about 60 horsepower from a rated maximum of 200 for your safety reserve. i X 11 ,, ,, 10.! ....... .. . 100PM . .10 . 40000 0 . p .. plopOstpflppqou . wppoopopopipmpouppip '1 Corning Events #01111# 0111110H0 UOU'IP!!!!I1t .. ! oo o ! o o !pH 0000 0000 #0 000 # 00000 oo 000000 of 000 11.0# oo 1111 00 00 oo !HAMA PIANO for sale; rug 6'0.
