During the evening contests were enjoyed and each lady present wrote her name in liq- uid embroidery on a tea towel which was given to the bride- to-be. Angelia and Julie Reed, cousins of the guest of honor made a very winsome bride and groom as they presented the gifts from a decorated wagon. Shirley thanked e"eryone and lunch was served by the hostess. Shower GORRIE-Miss Angela Mit- chell was honored by friends and relatives at a miscellane- ous shower on Saturday evening at her home. Corporal and Mrs, John Welsh and four children of Win- nipeg visited for a week at the home of Mrs. Welsh's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wray Cooper. Mr. and Mrs., Anson Ruttan and Janice spent the week-end at Inverhuron. Miss Violet Beswetherick left on Thursday from New York on a boat cruise to Bermuda for two weeks. Mrs. Bernice Schinbein of Mitchell visited over the week- end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Anson Demerling. Mrs. Val Schinbein of Listowel was a Sunday visitor at the same home. Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Graham and John of Toronto were week- end visitors .at their home here. Mr. Curtis Jordan, who spent two weeks at his cottage in By-. ng Inlet, brought home the grandaddy of all northern pike, 4J inches long and 24 pounds. Some fish, and we saw it so this is a true one. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Klaassen visited one day last week in Kitchener. Misses Debbie and Dawn Doig of Glenn Morris were week-end visitors with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Doig. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Nickel and family returned home Sun-- day after spending the past week at Port Elgin. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Camp- bell and family were Saturday visitors in Kitchener. Sunday guests with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Moore were Miss Madeline Crittendon of New Hamburg, Mr. John Brecker of Baden, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Frew of Preston and Mr. James Dick of Glasgow, Scotland. Mr. Dick is a cousin of Mrs. Moore. Strong and Miss Judy King conducted contests. The bride-to-be received many lovely gifts. Over fifteen la- dies attended. The hostesses served lunch, Presentation FORDWICH-A presentation and dance was held in the Ford- wich Hall Friday evening in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Litchy (Glenna Ilibberd). Miss Marian Harding read the address and the young cou- ple was presented with a vae- uum cleaner, foot stool end money for which each express- ed thanks. Mr. and Mrs. William Aus- tin and Matthew, who had been visiting with their parents and friends for the past three weeks, left on Wednesday morning from Maiton airport to their home in Prince Rupert, B. C. Mrs. Cecil Wilson and Mrs. Ron McClement were Kitchener visitors on Friday. Mrs. Christina Evans return- ed to her home in Toronto last week after spending some time with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Wil- liamson. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn John- ston attended the Woodstock fair one day last week. Mrs. Pearl Patterson and Miss Leslie Campbell spent several days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Willoughby Patterson at Cooksville and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Patterson in Toronto, and also attended the C. N. E. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Wray, Brian and Grace of Toronto spent the week-end at their home here. Mrs. Charles VerSchoor of Anne Arbour, Michigan, ar- rived here Monday to the new home which she recently had built. We welcome her and hope she will enjoy her new home in our village. Miss Lenore Beswetherick arrived home last week after spending the past six weeks in Greece and Turkey. Mrs. James Warrell, Mrs. E. Fleischauer and two child- ren spent a week in Watkins Glen, N.Y., and Shohola, Penn. Miss Caroline Fleis- chauer spent a week at E. U.B. camp at Silver Lake where she was a counsellor. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Craig and daughter of Edmonton spent two weeks visiting relatives in the community. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Cober, Jimmie and Arlene are spend- ing two weeks with relatives in Chicago and Des Moines, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lepp- ington of Peterborough spent the week-end at their home here. Miss Marilee Riddell of Lindsay spent last week with her randparents, Mr. and Mrs. .-ley Bride. Mrs. Dan Burgan of Ann Ar- bor, Mich., is Visiting with BREAKS ARM GORRIE-Wellsley Strong slipped and fell on a wagon Sat- urday evening at Harry Zim- merman's farm. and broke his right arm. He was taken to Wingham and District Hospital. GIFT.OF MONEY FOR NEWLYWEDS WROXETER--A reception and dance was held in the com- munity hall here on Friday eve- ning in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Tom McIntee (Elaine Sander- son). Dancing was enjoyed and during the intermission Mr. and Mrs. McIntee were called to the platform. Miss Bonnie Ad- ams read the address and Miss Fay Musgrove presented the newlyweds with a gift of money. Grandmothers Enjoy Special W.I. Meeting FORDWICH-The Women's Institute held its August meet- ing in the community hall with the grandmothers of the com- munity as special guests. The conveners of historical research, Mrs. Clare Harris and Mrs. Har- old Pollock were in charge of the meeting. Mrs. Clare Harris presided and welcomed members, grand- mothers and the guest speaker, Mrs. D. S. MacNaughton of Wingham. The devotions were taken by Mrs. Harold Doig. The motto, "Scatter gladness of joy and mirth all along the ways of earth" was discussed by Mrs. Howard Harris. The roll call, "A wise say- ing of our grandfather's time" was answered by members and guests. A thank you note was read from Mrs. McCann. A dona- tion was voted to the How ick Agricultural Society and mem- bers made plans to enter an ex- hibit at the fair. Miss Elva Foster sang a solo accompanied by Miss M. Mc- Elwain. Mrs. MacNaughton Spoke on the theme, "By Worth and Work We Rise". She was thanked by Mrs. Crosby Sotheran. Community singing was en- joyed, led by Miss M. McEl- wain with Mrs. Lorne Siefert at the piano. Mrs. Harris conducted sev- eral contests; The grandmother with 'the oldest grandchild was Mrs. Nina Armstrong; the grandmother with the youngest grandchild, Mrs. Clarence Carswell; the grandmother with the smallest waist and shoe, Mrs. George Ashton; the grand- mother with the most great grandchildren, Mrs. Ross Doig. A musical number on piano and mouth organ was played by Mrs. L. Siefert. At the close a dainty lunch was served by the hostess. GORRIE Mr. and Mrs. Gordon MUS• selman of Kitchener and Mr. and Mrs. W. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Neill of London and Mrs. Pearl Finni gan, London, spent last Sunday with Mrs. Margaret Willits. Koch, Miss Erna Betka and Mr. George Timm visited Mr. and Mrs. Ru dolph Mogk, Stratford, on Sat- urday.
