"The Great Race"
It will be a pleasure to get
back to school in the fall! And
I bet there will be many house-
wives going back to school in
the privacy of their own homes,
by watching the National School
Telecasts during the fall season.
This summer a special two-
hour production of William
Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar"
was filmed, to be shown on the
series later in the season. It is
produced, directed, and adapt-
ed for the TV screen by herb
Roland, and it stars a number
of famous and talented Canad-
ians and frequent performers at
the Stratford Festival,
Budd Knapp, will play the
title role with Len Birman as
Brutus, Chris Wiggins as Cas-
sius, Peter Donat as Antony,
Dawn Greenhalgh as Portia,
Moya Fenwick as Calpurnia,
Ken James as Casca, and John
Horton as Octavius. Other cast
members include Gillie Fen-

"Flash, the Teenage Otter"
By Vonni Lee
wick, Claude Rode, and other
less-famous players.
This production is the larg-
est ever undertaken by the
School and Youth Department
at the CI3C. Most of it was
filmed in a CBC studio, set
with realistic buildings and
scenery of the period. The pro-
duction's designer is Robert
Lawson, The final battle scene
was filmed on location in an
abandoned quarry at Woodstock,
Ontario. About 50 soldiers and
horses were used to portray the
fighting armies. So this should
be almost like something out of
the extravaganza movies!!
Seriously, though, it should
be a fine piece of entertain-
ment. Our young people are
fortunate to have a chance to
see fine work like this on the
television screen. The pro-
ducer, Mr. Roland, was also
responsible for the outstanding
production of "MacBeth" seen
on National School last season.
0-0-0
The word is out. "This
Hour has Seven Days" has been
axed! It is not coming hack
next season -- well, not as
'This Hour has Seven Days'
anyway. And not with its for-
mer great producer, Douglas
Leiterman. Ile is moving south
of the border to seek fame and
fortune in the U.S. And with
his talent and mastery, he will
have no trouble. Never let the
CI3C, complain that its stars do
not remain loyal. What do
they expect our talent to do
when it is fired from the na-
tive network - sit or rot'? At
any rate, we're losing Leiter-
man which is definitely a giant
loss.
The show's replacement, and
in the same time slot, is a lit-
tle gem called "Sunday", and
if you think it will be an eve-
ning of nursery rhymes and fairy
tales, you may be surprised. If
they thought "TIIIISD" was con-
troversial, wait until they see
this; it could be even worse,
Its producer is Darryl Duke,
who gained lame as the produc-
er of "Quest", and surely I
don't have to tell you what ex-
citement that raw little series
