Eighteen tables of euchre were played. Mrs. George Hetherington 'read an address of congratula- tions in rhyme to Mr. and Mrs. Vincent to which both replied. Mrs. D. L. Steven gave a re- port on missionary education. During the business, plans were finalized for the baking sale to be held in September and also the annual sale of Christmas cards. Shows Slides of East Wawanosh BELGRAVE—The Historical research meeting of the Wom- en's Institute was held on Tues- day of last week in the com- munity centre with President Mrs. Stanley Cook in charge. It was announced that school children should note that the Institute prize for senior girls in the School Fair Prize List should read: A collection of 10 reci- pes used before 1920. A training school for leaders of the Supper Club was an- nounced for August 22 and 23 to be held in Wingham. Mrs. Ivan Wightman was convener for this meeting and ithe roll call was answered with an interesting event in the community in the last 100 years. Mrs. Gordon McBurney gave a talk on the motto "Me- mory is a wonderful treasure chest if we know how to pack it". Mrs. Ivan Wightman show- ed aerial views in colour relat- ing to East Wawanosh and early pioneer life. The Scripture lesson was read by Mrs. Wal- lace Conn. The meditation, "The Secret of Staying Power Is Faith" was given by Mrs. H. D. MacDonald, The Glad Tidings prayer was read by Mrs. McInnes. N., of Milton spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs. George McClenaghan. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Craig, who have been visiting at the home of her sister, Mrs. Robt. Ross, left on Thursday last for their home in Toronto. Mrs. M. Chapman Sr. and Mr. Gary Chapman flew to Whitehorse in the Yukon to visit Mrs. Chapman's grand- daughter, Mrs. Jack Hildebrand Gary travelled by bus to Daw- son City where he reports it was snowing and very cold. Both returned to Toronto by plane and returned from there with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Smith. Mrs. Smith, Cathy and Bradley re- mained here for the week. Dr. McMillan Is Popular Speaker At Conferences Rev. Dr. K. G. McMillan will be the speaker on Sunday morning at St. Andrew's Pres- byterian Church. Rev. Kenneth G. McMillan, B. A. , B. D. , D. D., General- Secretary of the Canadian Bi- ble Society will leave shortly for a meeting of the Bible So- ciety in London, England and Berlin, West Germany. During the summer he has been speak- er at conferences at Silver Bay, N.Y.; Salem, Oregon; Bran- don, Man.; London, Ont., and Chautaugua, N.Y. Dr. McMillan is a native of Mount Forest and attended school at Palmerston and Lis- towel. Ile received his Bache- lor of Arts degree from the Uni- versity of Toronto in 1939. A minister of the Presbyter- ian Church in Canada, he holds degrees of Bachelor of Divinity and Doctor of Divinity from Knox College, Toronto, from which he graduated in 1942. He held pastorates at Bur- goyne and Dunblane in Bruce County, Drummond Hill Pres- byterian Church in Niagara Falls and St. Andrew's, Guelph. lie was appointed General Sec- retary of the Canadian Bible Society in 1957. Dr. McMillan is a past- moderator of the Presbyterian Synod of Toronto and Kingston and served on the Board of Mis- sions of the Presbyterian Church in Canada for many years. He is past-chairman of the Depart- ment of Overseas Missions of the Canadian Council of Churches and a member of the standing committee of the United Bible Societies, the world organization which co- ordinates the work of the 36 na- tional Bible Societies of the world. As General Secretary of the Canadian Bible Society with its .19 offices and 3,500 branches Dr, McMillan makes frequent trips to all parts of Canada, visits the United Kingdom each year and travels extensively throughout the world.
