Week-end visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Wright included Mr. and Mrs. Murray Wright and family of Kitchener and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Jack of Listowel. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Death of Weston visited with relatives in the area over the holiday week-end. Mrs. Margaret Horsburgh is Presently visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. anersen Fer- guson. Boat riding and water skiing are the favourite pastimes at Lakelet this hot summer weath- er, We are indeed fortunate to have suitable conditions so close at hand. Mrs. Hazel Tuck of Wing- ham spent the week-end at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Ernest Wylie. Many from near Lakelet were in attendance at the Anglican Sunday school picnic at Gorrie. They report an enjoyable event. Participate in Achievement Day LAKELET—Both of the Lake- let 4-H Clubs took part in the activities at Achievement Day at Howick Central School last Thursday. The Lakelet Mad Hatters put on a demonstration, "Accent with Accessories" , and the Lakelet Happy Hatmakers pre- sented a skit. "How to Care for Accessories" . Miss Janette Wright was one of three girls who received pro- vincial honors for completing twelve 4-H projects, Miss Sharon Carroll, B.H. Sc., has been appointed county home economist for Huron, her duties to begin July 18. The new 4-H project for fall will be "The Supper Club". R.C.N. MECHANIC GORRIE--Paul Mitchell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Mitchell, has successfully completed a 16 weeks' basic new entry train- ing course and will shortly leave Cornwallis, N.S. as hull me- chanic with the Royal Canad- ian Navy. Paul is on leave at his home now. RECEIVE GIFTS WROXETER--The people of the community presented Mr. and Mrs. Donald Wheeler with an electric frying pan and an electric toaster last week, in honor of their recent marriage. Mrs. R. &Noah Is UCW Hostess BELMORE—The June meet- ing of the Delmore United Church Women was held on Wednesday evening of last week, at the home of Mrs. Row- land Ballagh., The topic was "Christian Citizenship", and Miss ',mune Ballagh was the leader. She opened with patri- otic hymns and a meditation on how to be good patriots and keep our country close to God. Scripture readings were taken from Psalm 33, and the Acts of the Apostles. Mrs. John Rutherford was in charge of the study book, and read and conducted study on a chapter pertaining to the bap- tism of Jesus by John the Bap- tist. Mrs. Earl Fitch conclud- ed the study book about Trini- dad, telling about her future, and the U.C.W.'s part in it. Roll Call was answered by the name of a patriot of the Bible. Mrs. Fitch presided for the business of the meeting. Var- ious suggestions were made as to projects that the group could attempt for Centennial Year. At the close of the meeting, the leader closed with prayer. Reception Held at Whitechurch Hall WHITECHURCH—On Friday evening a reception was held in Whitechurch Community Me- morial Hall for Mr. and Mrs. Bill Willis. A large crowd was in attendance. At the lunch hour Mr. and Mrs. Willis were called to the platform while Alex Craig read an address extending best wish- es and Leroy Rintoul presented them with a gift of money. Dancing was resumed till the closing hour when God Save the Queen was sung and all return- ed to their homes. Mr. and Mrs. John Hunter and sons, of Lucknow, visited with Mrs. Doris Scott and fam- ily Sunday afternoon. We are glad to report that Master Ross Jeffray is on the mend after a haying accident at his home last week. We hope he continues to show improve- ment and are glad it was no more serious. Mr. and Mrs. Pat Murphy were recent guests at Goderich, where a family gathering was held in honor of the 25th wed- ding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. James Murphy of Coder- ich and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Nut- kins of Windsor. Mr. William Curle, Bel- more' s grand old man, has re- turned home after spending a week in Wingham and District Hospital. We hope his condi- tion continues to improve. Belmore School came home with three prizes when they at- tended their annual school field day in Teeswater on Monday of last week. Glenda Ballagh won first prize in her class of eight and nine-year-olds; Twyla Dickson came second in the six and seven-year class; and Doug- las Jeffray won third in his class of ten and eleven-year-olds. All were entered in the racing competition. Congratulations, kids, we're mighty proud of you! And more congratulations are in order, this time to Miss Gail Renwick, who won an aca- demic crest for the highest standing in Grade 4 at the How- ick Central School, and also passed her Grade 4 Piano with honors, from The Toronto Con- servatory of Music. Some of our noble citizens are GORRIE—Girls from Huron County 4-1-I homemaking clubs held their annual achievement day at Howick Central School Thursday. Diane Liddiard of Clinton, Huron home economist, was in charge of the program which included exhibits, demonstra- tions and skits, Theme of the day was Accent on Accessories. Irene Collins commented on the skits and demonstrations and Mrs. Barbara Flewelling commented on exhibits. Receiving provincial honor certificates were Janette Wright, R. R. 1 Clifford; Margaret Smith of R. R. 2 Listowel and Corinne Kieffer, R. R. 1 Wingham. Miss Kieffer was the only winner present. Mrs. Ross Knight of Belmore, president of the East- Huron district Women's Insti- tutes made the presentation. Receiving county honor pins and certificates from Mrs. Knight were Margaret Jeffray, R.R. 1 Wroxeter; Donna Clark, R. R. 2 Listowel; Barbara Thorn- ton, R.R. 2 Gorrie and Janet Elliott, R. R. 2 Bluevale. Certificates of achievemet and silver homemaking club spoons were also presented. Charles Congram of Wingham was guest speaker in the Presby- terian Church, The junior choir was in charge of the,mn- sic, and sang "Jacob's Ladder", The Belmore-McIntosh joint Sunday School picnic will be held in the Belmore Park on Saturday afternoon, July 9th, beginning at 3.30, All child- ren of the community are wel- come, and are asked to bring ,their parents! Friends Honor Bride-Elect BLUEVAI,E--A well-attend- ed shower in honor of Miss Bren- da Breckenridge was held in the school room of the United Church on Thursday evening. Mrs. Lee Breckenridge, mother of the bride-to-be, and Mrs. W. J. Perry, mother of the groom, were seated with the bride under a large pink wedding bell. Decorations of spring flowers made the room attractive. A sing-song, conducted by Mrs. Wm. Robertson with Mrs. Carl Johnston accompanying, introduced a program of con- tests. An address was read to Miss Breckenridge by Mrs. Douglas Fischer, having been composed in rhyme by Mrs. George Heth- erington. A presentation of many beautiful and useful gifts followed, with Mrs. Clifford Brewer, Mrs. Jim Thompson, Mrs. Ken Johnston and Mrs. Fischer assisting in displaying them. Refreshments were serv- ed at the close. Strawberry Tea BLUEVALE--A very success- ful strawberry tea was held by Unit 3 of the U.C.W., in the schoolroom of the United Church Thursday afternoon. Surely they could have come a month ago when we were writ- ing examinations! Achievement Day was held on Thursday of last week for the 4-H Club members from this area. There were two Belmore groups who participated in the project of making accessories. The leaders were Mrs. David Harper, Mrs. Ralph Dickson, Mrs. Douglas McPherson, and Mrs. Douglas Steven. Receiv- ing provincial honors for twelve completed courses, was Cor- rinne Kieffer, while Margaret Jeffray received county honors for the completion of six 4-H courses. Sympathy is extended to members of the Simmons fam- ily, on the death of Miss Luella Simmons, in Clinton, last week, Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Jo- hann attended the Good-Zur- brigg family reunion in Kurtz- ville on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Death of Weston, were week-end visitors with Mr. Alex Inglis of Carrick Township. Mr. and Mrs. Art Carter and Douglas of London visited on Saturday with her mother, Mrs. Adam Darling, of Carrick. Miss Connie Cameron com- menced work on Monday of this week at North Waterloo Farm- ers Mutual Insurance Company, in Waterloo. Services were cancelled in the United Church on Sunday; joint services of Holy Com- munion, with Rev. D. L. Stev- en in charge, were held in Mc- Intosh United Church.
