A social evening was held or Monday night at the home of Mrs. Charles Perrott when fel- low employees of the U.D.P.0 gathered to honor Miss Lillian Bruce on her forthcoming mar- riage and Mrs. Iris Bryant, who is moving to Stratford. Both were presented with gifts. A pot luck supper was en- joyed by 135 members and guests of the Goforth Auxiliary preceding the regular meeting on Tuesday evening of last week. —Mr. and Mrs. Robert Car- bert of Toronto spent the week- end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Carbert. --Mrs. Gordon Godkin re- turned home Sunday after spending the past week with her sister, Mrs. Russell Bloomfield and Mr. Bloomfield, in Wind- sor. —Mr. and Mrs. Warren Web- er, Denise and Danny of Strat- ford visited over the week-end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Weber in Listowel and Mr. and Mrs. J. Gibbons. Miss Ruth Gibbons returned with them on Monday for a few holi- days. --Miss Pat Coulter of London spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Coulter. —Mrs. Joe Brophy and fam- ily of Hamilton spent the week- end with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bau- er and other relatives. —Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stanley of Chesley visited on Sunday with Mrs. P. Receive Gifts On Anniversary BLUEVALE--Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Peacock were not allow- ed to forget their 25th wedding anniversary last week, when a number of friends surprised them, bringing good wishes and hearty congratulations on this important occasion. They were honored by gifts, a leather foot stool for the bridegroom and a sewing cab- inet for the bride. VBS Opens at St. Andrew's All children 32 to 14 years ate invited to attend the Vaca- tion Bible School at St. An- drew's Presbyterian Church. Classes will be held for a two- weeks' period beginning July 4, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. Registra- tion is only 50 per day for each pupil. Children 6 to 8 years are asked to take crayons and pen- cils and those 9 to 14 will take Bibles. Mrs. Jack Lloyd gave the call to worship. Mrs. Hazel Bateman read Scripture and Mrs. Redmond MacDonald gave the meditation. Mrs. G. L. Fish sang "I Am Not Worthy". She was accompanied by Mrs. Betty Feagan. Mrs. Bateman, on behalf of the Auxiliary, presented Mrs. Stewart Forsyth with a life membership to the W.M.S. and a pin was presented by her family. The offertory prayer was giv- en by Mrs. Gordon Leggatt. Mrs. John Ostrum, with Mrs. Nelson Pickell at the piano, sang "I Sing of Thee". Guest speaker, Miss Jane Scott, religious columnist for the Toronto Telegram, was in- troduced by Mrs. John Donald- son. Greetings were extended to Miss Scott by Mrs. Fish, on behalf of the congregation; Mrs. T. L. Currie from the W.M.S.; Mrs. Lloyd, from the Auxiliary and Mrs. Ostrum on behalf of the visitors. Miss Scott, a witty and in- spired speaker, is author of "My Adventures with God" and "Rocking Chair Reveries" . Miss Verna McLaughlin mov- ed a vote of thanks to Miss Scott and Mrs. Robert McKague gave the closing prayer. Coif W - Mr. Kurt - Dallas Saint Paul's Anglican Church, Pinkerton, was the setting for the wedding on Saturday, June 18, when Betty Isabel, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nel- son Carter, R. P., 2 Wingham, became the bride of Harold Ed- win Bell, son of Mrs. Alice Bell and the late John Bell, R.R. 1 Pinkerton. Rev. Boaz officiated at the double ring ceremony. Mrs. Shirley Thompson, Glammis, was soloist. She sang "The Lord's Prayer" and " 0 Perfect Love" while Mrs. Ina Fullerton, Paisley, was organist. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a floor- length gown of white legoda. The bodice was appliqued with Chantilly lace, with three- quarter length sleeves. Her pure silk illusion veil was held with crystal and seed pearls and she carried a bouquet of pink roses with white mums. Mrs. June Metzgar, Lake- let, was matron of honor. She wore a street-length gown of blue organza and carried a bou- quet of pink mums. Bridesmaids were Miss Mar- lene Carter of Walkerton, cou- sin of the bride and Miss Aud- rey Carter of Wingham, sister of the bride. They wore dresses identical to that of the matron of hcnor but in pink organza. They also carried bouquets of pink mums. Each wore a mat- ching headband and pearl ac- cessories. Best man was Norman Bell, Pinkerton, brother of the groom, while ushers were Albert Bell, Toronto, brother of the groom and Lloyd Carter, Pine River, brother of the bride. Dinner was held at Danny's Restaurant, Wingham, for 95 guests and a reception followed at the Legion Home for about 200 guests. The guests were received by the bride's mother, who chose a blue lace sheath dress with corsage of deep pink mums. She was assisted by the groom's mother who chose a green sheer dress with a lace jacket and wore a corsage of pink mums. For a wedding trip to Ni- agara Falls and district the bride wore a two-piece blue suit of lace with a corsage of pink rnums. Mr. and Mrs, Bell will reside in Glammis. Prior to the wedding a mis- cellaneous shower was held in Walkerton by Mrs. Frances Fitzpatrick and Mrs. Jean Bol- ton, when employees of Camp- bell's Soup presented the bride with many useful gifts. Present Cheque At Monday Meeting At the Wingham and District Hospital Women's Auxiliary meeting held Monday evening Mrs. Bell of St. Marys, the district chairman of district No. 2, was the guest speaker. It was explained that there are 20 auxiliaries in this district and 12 districts in Ontario. On behalf of the auxiliary, Mrs. English presented a cheque to Roy Cousins, chairman of the hospital board for $7,100,-- $2,100 for the operating room central light and $5, 000 for the autoclave (sterilizer) for cent- ral supply. The next meeting will be Monday, October 3rd at 2.30 in the council chambers. Marilyn Higgins Feted Monday Mrs. Miller Davis and Mrs. John Cruickshank were hostess- es at a shower held at the lat- ter's home Monday evening for Miss Marilyn Higgins, whose marriage takes place this eve- ning. Thirty-six friends and neighbors attended. The bride-elect received many lovely shower gifts. She was assisted in opening them by Miss Joan Cruickshank and Miss Joan Remington, who also assist- ed the hostesses. Miss Higgins thanked her friends and games were played. Life Membership To Mrs. Forsyth FAREWELL PARTY FOR MRS. CONNELL Mrs. David Cameron enter- tained recently for Mrs. Bill Connell who left for her new home in Guelph last Tuesday. Several friends gathered and presented her with a colonial soup urn. Cards were played during the evening. The winners were, high, Mrs. Cliff Robb and low, Mrs. Desmond Brophy. VISIT CHAPTERS IN N. ONTARIO Mrs. Jack Reavie, Grand Electa of Ontario, Order of the Eastern Star joined the other Grand Officers as they toured Northern Ontario and visited with them in chapters in Port Arthur, Wawa, Sault Ste. Marie, Blind River, Sudbury, North Bay and Huntsville. This concluded a three-weeks' tour of the chapters in Northern On- tario. Strawberries are ideal at any time - breakfast, lunch or din- ner.
