WROXETER—According to their usual custom, members of the Howick Lions' Club en- tertained their ladies at the June supper meeting. The event was held in St. Stephen's Anglican Church hall, Gorrie, and was catered to by the wom- en of the church. About 50 Lions and guests were present. President Harry Templeman, who was present after several months illness, presided. The singing of "0 Canada" was followed by a toast to the Queen. Lion Warren Zurbrigg said grace, and a toast to the ladies was proposed by Lion Jim Alcorn, to which Mrs. Stanley Bride fittingly respond- ed. Mrs. Don McLaughlin, wife of a former Howick Lion mem- ber, was guest speaker. She is home after teaching in Ghana, Africa, where she and Don went to teach secondary school for two years on the "Technical Aid to Undeveloped Countries" project. She was introduced by Lion Jack Clarke. She spoke on their life in Cape Coast where they and their two children, David and Tracy lived. Coloured pictures of the school showed it to be a large modern guilding set in very nice surroundings. The English system of education is used. The daily newspaper and television are among some of the things which they miss. She said they subscribe to the Lon- don Free Press, but only receive it about once a month when a large bundle arrives. On this account they miss out on the recent world news, especially that of Viet Nam. Her coloured slides of the country and natives were most interesting, so were her com- ments. She spoke of the many coups, or small revolutions throughout the country, but said they had been in the midst of no violence themselves. After their vacation they ex- pect to return for another year of teaching in Cape Coast. Lion Warren Zurbrigg thank- ed the speaker and expressed the Club's best wishes on their mission in Africa.
