Bennett, Mrs. Gordon Under- wood visited Mrs. John Met- calfe of Paisley on Sunday. Word has been received that Mr. Hugh Smith of Toronto passed away Saturday evening. He was the husband of the form- er Nellie Young, formerly of Howick Township, and often visited in this area. Mrs. Beecraft, Speaker GORRIE--Mrs. Gilbert Bee- croft, Belgrave, guest speaker at the May meeting of the Unit- ed Church Women, spoke on "Front Line Soldiers". She said everyone should be actively en- gaged in the work of the church, each day, wherever they may be. She was introduced by Mrs. Glad Edgar. Mrs. Lorne Robinson, in the meditation on why the church exists said it is the mission of the church to serve, bring in and uplift and send on to serve others. She read a poem, "Do Your Best Today" . Mrs. Edgar read Scripture. The visiting auxiliaries of Wrox- eter, Fordwich and Mayne took part in the program. Mrs. Ar- chie Miller read two poems and Mrs. Ken Graham, Mrs. Ben Gibson and Miss Minnie Mc- Elwain formed a trio and were accompanied by Miss Violet Beswetherick. Mrs. Donald Reid of Mayne gave a reading. President, Mrs. Rumell Ad- ams presented the speaker with a gift. An invitation to Moles- worth Presbyterian Church June 8 was received, to hear Rev. L. G. Steers speak on the mis- sions to lepers. There will not be a June meeting. Plans were completed for a garden party on June 29. Seventy ladies attended this meeting and the committee served lunch. 4-H Display at Institute Meeting WROXETER—Mrs. Wm. Wright gave a timely thought as she opened the Women's In- stitute meeting at the commun- ity hall last week, which was attended by a large number of members and guests. Minutes and correspondence were read. Mrs. T. Burke re- ported on the 64th district an- nual meeting of East Huron Wo- men's Institutes at Moncreiff, where Wroxeter received first prize for its Tweedsrnuir His- tory. Mrs. H. Adams read a poem of her own, "Youth and Age". Special mention was given to six 4-H girls and their leaders for displaying hats, scarves and purses made in the course, "Ac- cent on Accessories" . Some sleeping garments and a first aid kit from other projects were also shown. Roll call was answered with a good habit in the care of clothing and an exchange of seeds, slips and plants. Mrso Ron McMichael played for cam- munity singing. Highlight of the program wa: a demonstration of liquid em- broidery by Mrs. R. B. Porter of Atwood. She was introduc- ed and thanked by Mrs. Wright. Hostesses were Mrs. Wm, Taylor, Mrs. J. Simmons and Mrs. Clark Sharpin. Mr. Clarence Clement, Toronto, and Mr, Holly Clem- ent, Hamilton, spent the week* end with Mrs. Clarence Clem- ent. Mr, Win. Durst, Stratford, spent the week-end at hishome here, Mr. and Mrs. Mel Finlay, Gorrie, called on Mr, and Mrs. Ross Sanderson on Sunday after- noon. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Cope- land and family of Erin called on Mrs, A. Wearing on Satur, day. Mr. Norman Nixon, Water- loo, and Miss Heather McMil- lan, Toronto, were week-end visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Griffith. Bill and Paul Higgins spent the week-end at Lakefield, Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Cross of Walker- ton were Mr. and Mrs. W. A.
