The grand finale of a most successful season of Junior bowl- ing took place at the local lanes last Saturday afternoon when bowlers from our three leagues gathered for the pre- sentation of trophies and awards and of course, the main course featured hot dogs and chocolate milk for all. The names of the winners of the various awards were in seal- ed envelopes and as our select- ed leaders or bowlers opened these envelopes, all awaited with bated breath to hear the name or names of the award winners -- you could at times literally hear a pin drop -- a far cry from the tumult and shouting so evident each Satur- day morning. BANTAMS The big winner in this divis- ion was Julie Foxton who took girls' high average, League's most improved bowler and per- fect attendance awards. Winners of regular schedule were Whites consisting of Mar- lene Foxton, Lois McLaughlin, David Tiffin, Dale Walden and Bill Staight. The playoff win- ners were four boys, Bradley Simmons, Brian Gordon, Tom McLaughlin and Jay MacLaurin. High average awards went to Julie Foxton 75 and Larry Sim- mons 115; high singles to a brother and sister, Tom Mc- Laughlin 223, Lois McLaughlin 145; high doubles, Kathy Ross 199, David Tiffin 285. Five members of this group showed their love for the game as they never missed a week and received perfect attend- ance awards. These ardent bowlers are Bradley Coulter, Bill Staight, Bradley and Larry Simmons and Julie Foxton. JUNIORS Unlike their NHL counter- parts our league winners were The Bruins. Members of the Bruins were Marilyn Irwin, Rhonda Bell, Candice Foxton, Bill Brown, Brian Deyell and Lloyd Fridenburg. Although the NHL Hawks bowed early in the playoffs our Hawks, led by their tea-drink- ing captain, Steven Langridge capped the playoffs. Steven got some fine bowling from the other members of his team in the persons of Ruth Ann Read- man, Bob Larose, Mike Walden and one of our leading rookies, Steven Tiffin. For the boys Bill Brown had high average 152 with Gail Ir- vine with 139 average as tops for the gals. High singles went to Margaret McLaughlin 236 and David Balser 270, while high doubles went to Rhonda Bell 355 and David Walker 396. Winner of the most improved bowler award, donated by Doro- thy Cameron, went to Marilyn Irwin who upped her average some 30 plus pins over last year, Perfect attendance awards went to Steven (4 cups of tea) Langridge, Margaret McLaugh- lin, Bruce Henry, Barry Gardner and our two Davids, Walker and. Balser. SENIORS Did you notice that among those present were some meal- hers of the Men's Monday Night league and Mixed Leagues? Could it be that Ian and Al were thinking of signing up some of our fine bowlers for next year? During the year we had three bowlers who rolled games over 300. These bowlers were pre- sented with 300 game crests. They were Gary Bauer, Gary Brenzil and John Phillips and in addition Gary Bauer received a trophy for Top Achievement of the Year by virtue of his out- standing 385 single. League winners were The Oaks, Mary Beth Vath, Matt Richardson, Greg Carter, Bruce Boyd and John Phillips. A broth- er and sister, Jennifer and Jim Henderson led the Walnuts to the playoff championships. Oth- er members of this winning team were Doug Elliott,Jamie Douglas and Rickey Gardner. High averages went to Don Collar with a very fine average of 181 and Barbara Dauphin with 157 average. High singles were Gary Brenzil 310 and Pat- ti King 193 and top doubles rolled by Jennifer Henderson 371 and Bryan Walden 503. Rickey Gardner showed most improvement as he upped his average 32 pins to take the Dot Cameron most improved bowl- er award for this league. Per- fect attendance awards went to Don Rae, Gary Brenzil, Ron Goy, Mike White, Don Collar and Rickey Gardner. In addition to the awards presented, each bowler receiv- ed an attractive crest, purple and white in color plus sheets listing award winners and year's averages of each bowler, and of course, there were delicious hot dogs and chocolate milk served by an array of beauties, Ruth Lott, Dot Cameron, Dot Templeman, Hilda Gordon, Sharon Jones, Joyce Gardner, Shirley Simmons and Mrs. "B". "Gals, the treats to eat, sure hit the spot -- thanks a lot," Well that about rounds it up for the year, on behalf of the small fry we would like to say a big thank you to the leaders who assisted, to this paper for translating this writer's chicken scratches and supplying Fred Lee to record by photographs our winners, and a special thanks from the leaders to Mrs. "B" for those Saturday morning cups of coffee -- the real cure for noise making headaches and nerve-racking tension. So until next year -- so long for now and keep that bowling arm in shape, We want every- one back in the fall to roll big-, ger and better lines.
