Hibberd attended the Huron Presbytery in Hensall United Church last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Burns of Welland visited Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Stan Bride. The ladies were schoolmates. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Wilson of Salem were Sunday guests of Misses Letitia and Louise Mat- thews, Mr, and Mrs, Morley Bride of Guelph, Mr, Carmen Bride of Port Credit visited Sunday in the community. Mrs. Edna Bride, who has lived in the Fordwich Nursing Home all win- ter, returned with Mr. Carmen Bride and will visit for two weeks at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Butchart. Mrs. Phyllis Bolander and Mrs, Lloyd Nickel spent one day last week in Kitchener. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Robinson visited with the former's aunt last week at the Wingham and District Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Don King visited one day last week with relatives in Kitchener. Mr. and Mrs. Royden Devitt were London visitors one day last week. Misses Glenna Hibberd and Sharon Pollock of Kitchener spent the week-end at their re- spective homes. Mrs. Stan Bride was in Guelph all last week where she attended the F W.I. O. Board Meeting held at the University of Guelph. ST. HELENS Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hawley and Leslie Anne of Oshawa spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Woods. Mrs. Hawley and Les- lie are remaining for the week. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan McQuil- lin of Kitchener were week- end visitors with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred McQuillin. The St. Helens W.I. enter- tained at Huronview, Clinton, recently. About 25 ladies spent the afternoon with the senior citizens and gave a va- riety program. Lunch, with a birthday cake provided for those celebrating a birthday in Ap- ril, was enjoyed. The ladies went on a conducted tour at the conclusion of the afternoon. Fred Webster of London and Elliott Webster of Forest were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Todd. Hi-C Concert At Howick School FORDWICH—The Hi-C Group of the United Church held a very successful concert ' on Saturday night in the How- ick Central School, when plays, trios and several amusing ad- vertising items were presented and group singing was enjoyed. Anson Rjittan is the leader of the group and the pianist for the evening was Miss Janette Wright. These young people certainly present a wonderful evening of entertainment. Dr. and Mrs. Wendell Gott, Steven, Wendy and Brian of Toronto spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Frank King. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Grum- mond, Wheatley, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Searson. Mr. Wm. Koch and Mr. Glenn Koch of Listowel visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Koch. Mr. Raymond Gowdy, Mr. Donald Manning of Blyth, and Mr. Alex. Taylor, Hanover were on a three-day tour of Laidlaw Lumber Mill and Blind River. Misses Lenore and Violet Beswetherick of Fordwich, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Wade and Mr. Elmer Farrish attended the Hur- on County Historical Society meeting at Kintail on Monday of last week. Rev. H. D. Jenkins is in London this week attending the Anglican Synod. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Gowdy, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hyndman, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gowdy were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Halliday on Sunday. Mrs. Clara Colmer, Toronto, spent the week-end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilford King. Mr. Jas. Edwards has return- ed from a three weeks' trip to Scotland. He travelled over by plane and returned by boat. Mrs. Harry Rhame spent the week-end with Miss Corinne Rhame of London. Mr. and Mrs. Selah Breck- enridge, Jamestown, and Mr. Wm. Close of Ethel visited Fri- Hi-C Smorgasbord GORRIE—The Gorrie-Wrox- eter Hi-C group held a smor- gasbord supper in the United Church on Saturday evening. They realized approximately $200 for their efforts. U.C.W. Plans Garden Party GORRIE—Mrs. Robt. Elsch- ner presided for the devotional period of the United Church Women held Wednesday eve- ning in the Sunday Schoolroom. Mrs. Allan Hyndman read the Scripture. Mrs. Elschner gave the medi- tation on the resurrection. Mrs. Geo. Brown conducted the business. It was decided to hold the annual garden party June 29. Mrs. Gordon Edgar gave an interesting report of the Presbyterial. The Canad- ian Girls in Training banquet will be held on June 2 with Unit Four catering. Mrs. Allan Hyndman, Mrs. Raymond Gowdy and Mrs. Robt. Stephens served refreshments. on Saturday, and called on Mr, Henry Perham, who is a pa- tient at Westminster Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Rae Ziegler and son Perry and Mrs. Wm, Giles of Lambeth were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Murray and Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Murray. Mr. and Mrs. James Inglis visited with Mr. and Mrs. Don- ald McKinnon of Paisley on Sunday afternoon. Master Dennis and Misses Lorie and Lisa Thompson of Wingham spent the week-end at the home of their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G. Wright. Presentation For Newlyweds FORDWICH—A presentation and dance was held in the Ford- wich Community hall on Friday night in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Sothern (Sharon Elliott) newlyweds. Wayne Johnson read the ad- dress and the young couple was presented with a vacuum clean- er, mirror and a TV swivel rocker, as well as a generous purse of money by Jack Mann and Garfield Gibson. Mr. Gary Watson is a pa- tient in Wingham and District Hospital, having suffered injur- ies to his right hand in a sawing accident. Mrs. Walter King returned to Wingham and District Hospital on Sunday and will undergo sur- gery. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Leader attended the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Allan Smart in Hamil- ton on Saturday. Miss Etta Burns entertained at the Ash restaurant on Sunday in honor of Mrs. Mary Taylor of Wingham and Mrs. Mabel Stewart, Fordwich, who cele- brated birthdays. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Fullerton of Walkerton, Miss Beatrice Shearer and Mr. Thos. Shearer, Wroxeter, Mr. and Mrs. Burns Stewart, Mr. Ed. Stewart and Mrs. A. Thornton. Mr. and Mrs. Edward David and family moved last week to the farm they purchased from Reuben Byler, near Lakelet. Mr. and Mrs. Byler and family moved to Dover, Delaware. Miss Edith Howes is spending some time at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank David. Will Plan Party To Close Season BELGRAVE-- The Hi-C group met in the church school rooms on Sunday evening. President Bob Taylor was in charge. Min- utes were read by Marilyn Tay- lor and a discussion was held on the party to be held at the close of the Hi-C year. The com- mittee to plan the party is Aud- rey Coultes, Linda Coultes, Gordon Campbell, Luuk Muil- wyk. The treasurer's report was given by Dave Beecroft. The next meeting will be May 17 with Brian Hopper and his group in charge. It was de- cided to give 50% of the funds to Korea to help the children. A discussion was held on a variety of subjects. The offer- ing was received and recreation followed. Taps closed the meeting, Bluevale Mr. and Mrs. Earl Swan, of Gait, visited Mr. and Mrs. Bill Fraser, on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Moffatt and family of Southampton, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Moffatt. Bill Paterson, of Toronto, at- tending the funeral service for his cousin, Ken Paterson, of Whitechurch, was a visitor with Charles Coultes and the Duff family on Friday. Shower Held at Community Hall ST. HELENS—Miss Beth Cooper was guest of honor on Saturday evening at a commun- ity shower in the ball. Sheila McQuillin played several melo- dies as the ladies gathered. Mrs. Ernest Gaunt was chairlady. Mrs. Phairs Mathers, Mrs. Fred McQuillin, Mrs. Ed Mc- Quillin, Mrs. Mel Morrison and Brenda, Mrs. Gordon Morrison and Laurine, Mrs. Wilfred Mc- Quillin and Sheila and Wilda Dawson presented a humorous mock wedding. Readings were given by Mrs. Ross Errington and Mrs. Harvey Carrick. Musi- cal numbers were given by Lorie Campbell, Janice Gaunt, Marj- orie Murray and a group of lit- tle girls. Karen Gaunt conduct- ed a kitchen contest. The bride-elect was assisted in opening her many gifts by her sisters, Pamela and Jackie Cooper, Donna Rintoul, Wilda Dawson and Barbara Purdon. Beth thanked the ladies and lunch was served at the conclu- sion. ACCEPTS POSITION LAKELET—Mr. Lynn Fergu- son has accepted a position in the office of the Beamsville branch of United Co-Operatives of Ontario. His duties com- menced Monday. Belgrave Visitors on Sunday with Mrs. Herb Wheeler were Mrs. E. M. Townsend and Mrs. Wood, both of London. Christian Family Sunday will be held in Knox Presbyterian Church on Sunday, May 8th with the Rev. Owen Hughes of Watford as guest speaker, The service will be held at 9:30 which will be the regular time of the service in the future. Dr. Bert Brown of Weston Hospital and his mother, Mrs. A. E. Brown of Motherwell, and Mrs. Mary Seidle of Toronto visited on Saturday with Mrs. Winnie Smith. Father and Son Banquet Held FORDWICH—The annual Men's Club father and son ban- quet of Fordwich United Church was held on Monday of last week when some 45 attended. Robt. Hibberd, president, pre- sided. The toast to the church was given by Anson Ruttan and re- plied to by Rev. A. C. Coles; to the sons by Jack Brown with Charles Gibson giving the reply; to the fathers by Wray Wilson, replied to by Warren Zurbrigg. Guest for the evening was Alex Connell who showed slides of his trip to Ireland, Scotland and England. The meeting closed with benediction by Rev. J. W. Hird. OUT-DATED.. but who knows it!
