Mrs. Lome Siefert Sr. and Miss Jean Siefert spent Saturday in Kitchener. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Denier- ling and little daughter of Fene- Ion Falls spent the week-end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Jacobson, Mrs. Rosemary Campbell and Jimmy were week-end guests with Mr. and Mrs. Crosby Soth- Conference entry in the WOSSA games early in March. Mrs. Pearl Patterson and Miss Leslie Campbell visited recent- ly with Mrs. Wilda Campbell in St. Joseph's Hospital, Guelph. Our congratulations to one of our top farmers, George Kief- fer, who last week won second prize in the Bruce County Hog Producers' competition. He re- ceived honors for the highest in- crease in production from 1964- '65, in the over-100-marketed class. Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Johann and Steven and Mr. Robert Ait- ken of Teeswater, visited on Tuesday of last week with Mr. John Aitken and Mrs. I. C. Ait- ken at Walkerton. The oc- casion was Mrs. Aitken's 87th birthday. Time was when you saw teenagers growing transistor radios out of their ears! Now it's housewives who are walking around on Cloud 7, and particu- larly the housewives in Bel- more! The reason? -- Well, one of our residents, Mrs. Nor- man Newans, was called on the 'Hot Spot' contest last week. Men Observe Brotherhood Week FORDWICH— The Men's Club of Fordwich United Church met in the basement of the church to observe Brotherhood Week. A pot luck supper was served to about 30. The meeting was chaired by the president, Robert Ilibberd. Royden Devitt conducted de- votions. The guest speaker was Rev. Ronald Sweeney of Gorrie. His theme was "God bath made of one blood all nations to dwell on the face of the earth". Martin Baan, of Walton, chairman of Huron Presbytery men, also spoke. Guests were present from Gorrie United, Gorrie Anglican, Clifford Unit- ed, Walton United, Fordwich Brethren in Christ and Kurtz- vine Lutheran churches. LAKELET Mr. and Mrs. Redmond Mac- Donald and family of Wingham visited with Mr. and Mrs. Hen- ry Hohnstein on Friday evening. Mr. Eldon Dennis and Mr. Carl Dennis of Beaverton visit- ed with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Dennis, over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Klaus Duewel and family of Brigden visited with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Wright on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs, Gordon Wright were sponsors at the baptism of Miss Joan Elizabeth, five- month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Klaus Duewel, which took place at the Lutheran parsonage in Mildmay on Sunday. Howick Township Clerk Ivan Haskins and Councillor Jack Ferguson attended the conven- tion of the Association of Rural Municipalities at the King Ed- ward Hotel, Toronto, last week. fenstein, was hospitalized early this week. Mrs. Thomas Purcell and her daughter, Sister Marlene of Toronto, and Miss Kathleen Kieffer of Morristown, N.J., were week-end visitors with members of the Kieffer family in the area and spent some time with Mrs. George Kieffer Sr. , a patient in Wingham and Dis- trict Hospital. Members of the Hi-C Club of the United Churches enjoyed a skating party at the arena on Saturday evening. After skat- ing, they returned to McIntosh Church for refreshments. We had been compliment- ing ourselves on the lovely mild, weather we had been enjoying, when out of the clear blue sky, winter returned, in all its force and fury. This village was rel- atively quiet on Sunday, with no services held at either church and 'outdoorsing' kept to a minimum. Just one more month of winter -- and that's about thirty days too many, if we have more like that! The better we see and ack- nowledge the right, the worse it is followed, from Ovid. WHITECHURCH This community extends to Mr. and Mrs. Stan Kay of Luck- now, former residents, their sympathy in the passing this week of his mother, Mrs. Kay, at the Carruthers' Nursing Home, Kinloss Twp. Mr. and Mrs. Angus Fal- coner, Allan and Kevin of Streetsville and Mrs. Cecil Fal- coner spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Tiffin and Mrs. Dawson. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Relison Falconer and family, who had spent the week-end with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stacey of Wing- ham, were callers at the same home and Mrs. Cecil Falconer returned with Mr. and Mrs. Reli- son Falconer to Sarnia for a further visit. On Saturday Mr. Wesley Tif- fin took a bus load of Wingham high school wrestlers to Exeter and while they participated in their sports, Mr. Tiffin visited with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Huff- man and family of Lucan. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ar- scott, Valerie and Andrea spent the week-end in Toronto with Mr. and Mrs. Anthoney DiNova and family of Toronto. WI Card Party LAKELET--The weekly card party was held at Lakelet on Thursday night with a smaller crowd than usual. Prize win- ners for the occasion were Mrs. Norman Harper, Stan Dennis, Charles Scott, Delmar Dickert, Elmer Haskins. Inspection of Cubs followed and Iialoo reminded the boys that a 'c;ood Turn' is done willingly, with a smile, and without pay- ment. The highlight of the eve- ning was a comic book auction. The boys and leaders have de- cided to have more of these functions and use the money to buy equipment for Cub work. A vigorous game of Red Rover was then played followed by a rousing sing-song. Three groups were formed for work period. Several boys passed 2nd Star knots and the older Cubs are ready to pass morse code next week. Mrs. Robert Gibson welcomed the members with a poem, "Home': The motto "'You don't take time for community activities, you make it", was given by Mrs. Scott Clarkson. Roll call was a project for Centennial year. It was decided that the W, I. co-operate with the Park Board in their attempt to estab- lish a park along the Maitland River. Current events of pioneering in Australia were given by Mrs. John Craig. The 4-H girls, under the leadership of Mrs. Scott Clark- son and Mrs. Elmer Harding, put on their Achievement Day skit, "Pyjama Party on the Milky Way" by the Fordwich Star Stoppers. Commentator was Mrs. Jack Mann. THE WINGHAM GIRLS who competed in the Huron-Perth Conference bonspiel here on Saturday won third spot and had a real ball doing so. First place went to a rink from Central Huron at Clinton. Coles Chairs Annual FORDWICH—The annual meeting of Fordwich United Church was held recently in the church basement. Rev. A. C, Coles was chairman. Elected to the session for a four-year term were Austin Stinson and Robert Hibberd; Stewards for a three-year term are Robert Connell and William McElwain, Harold Doig and Harold Pollock. Congregational secretary is Warren Zurbrigg; treasurer, Ken Graham and envelope steward, Robert Hibberd. Wanda Spading is Carnival Queen FORDWICH--The Ice Carni- val held in the Fordwich arena on Saturday night, February 12, started with a hockey match be- tween the two squirt teams. The ice wasn't as keen as usual be- cause of mild weather. Pre-school girls in costume who won prizes were Laurie Dinsmore, Caroline Dinsmore, Mary Lou Ruttan; fancy cos- tume, Linda Martin and Brenda McCann; nursery rhyme, Bren- da McCann arid Linda Martin. Ladies' fancy costume, Miss Wanda Sparling;. Valentine cos- tume, Linda Martin, Laurie and Caroline Dinsmore; best clown, Phyllis Bolander and Lois Simmons. Queen of the carnival was Wanda Sparling. Races, girls 9 and under, Mary Lou Keil, Karen Miller and Jackie McMichael; 10-12 , Valerie Gibson; 13-15, Marian Harding; married women, Lois Simmons and Phyllis Bolander. Though she identified the store correctly, she missed out on the special; she did, however, win a cookbook for her troubles. And she made the rest of us sit up and listen a bit more close- ly. Friends were sorry to learn that Mr. Harry Miller's mother of Teeswater, is a patient in Wingham and District Hospital, after suffering injuries in a fall. Mrs. John Kerwin and child- ren, of Toronto, spent a few days last week renewing ac- quaintances in and around the village. Mrs. Ken Dickson and Mrs. Orville Cameron, and young members of their families, were among those who attend- ed the Ice Capades in Kitchen- er last week. At the end of regular play the Squirts are in first place (good going, team!), schedul- ed to play their first 'playoff game with Kurtzville Tuesday evening (22nd). The Midgets, holding down second place, were also to begin their series with Kurtzville on Tuesday evening. The Pee Wees, fin- ishing in second place, play Fordwich in the playoffs, and the Bantams, who placed fourth, will face Belgrave.
