The sympathy of the com- munity goes to Mr. James Vit- tie whose brother, Cleve, pass- ed away Monday morning in Wingham and District Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Russel Nickel spent the week-end with friends in Toronto. Miss Sharon Pollock of Kit-, chener spent the week-end with Mr, and Mrs, Harold Pollock. Sanderson is con- fined to Listowel Hospital, having suffered a back injury while working at the Campbell Soup plant, Listowel, January Meeting At Bride Home FORDWICH—Mrs. Stanley Bride was hostess to the Wo- men's Institute for their Janu- ary meeting. Mrs. John Inglis, 1st vice president was in charge. Mrs, William Clyne gave the devotions and thoughts for a new year. Roll call was answered by "A modern educational advan- tage I missed". The motto, "Education is lighting a lamp not filling a bucket", was giv- en by Miss Minnie McElwain. The topic, The New Mathe- matics Course, was takep by Mrs. Harold Pollock, a Grade IV teacher at Howick Central school. Two contests were conduct- ed by Miss Minnie McElwain. Mrs. John Craig and Mrs. Cros- by Sothern assisted the hostess with lunch. LANCELET Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Inglis of Toronto spent the week-end at the home of Mr, and Mrs. James Inglis. Miss Marian Scott has secur- ed a position at the Rural Hydro office in Stratford. Her duties there to commence in two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. James Inglis and Jim were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Anderson Inglis of Strat- ford on Saturday. Miss Carol Anne Hohnstein spent the week-end visiting with Miss Janette Wright. Mrs. Hazel Tuck of Wing- ham spent last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Wylie. Miss Marlene Wylie of Guelph visited at the same home on Saturday. There are 36 households with 112 members and 156 persons under pastoral care. The meeting closed with prayer. Mrs. Jos. Bennett returned home Friday after spending five weeks in the Wingham and Dis- trict Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Schade, Debbie and Stephen of Listowel, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Keith Small. Mr. and Mrs. Cloyne Mich- el, London, spent Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Wilford King. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Grain- Friendship Unit Holds Meeting WROXETER—The Friendship Unit of the Wroxeter U.C.W. held its first regular meeting of the year at the home of Mrs. Howard Wylie last Wednesday with 16 members present. Mrs. Wylie occupied the chair for the devotional part of the meeting and opened with a poem of hope and good wishes for the New Year. The Scrip- ture lesson was read by Miss Elsie Gibson. Mrs. Sweeney was welcom- ed and brought to the meeting a fine message of inspiration. The meditation for the day, "Blue Depression", was read by Mrs. Wylie. Miss Gibson read the story, "A Christmas Gift to a Missionary". Mrs. Archie Miller, the president conducted the busi- ness part of the meeting. The hostesses, Mrs. Wylie, Mrs. Martin and Miss Gibson served a delicious lunch, geb activities PACK A Pack 'A' of the Wingham Cubs met on Tuesday night at the Scout House. Baloo took the opening exercise. The Grand Howl was led by the yel- low six and inspection followed. Bagherra led the boys in a rousing game of ladders. Kaa led through a group of exercis- es and all leaders joined in. Richard Lloyd, Paul Bennett and Doug Vanderwoude passed 2nd star story telling and some of the Tenderpads passed somer- sault and telling of time. The White Six was the top group for the first half of the year and a pennant was pre- sented to Sixer Doug Vander- woude. All gave a good cheer. Bagherra took the morse code boys for further instruc- tion. Kaa took the 2nd star boys and Baloo and Raksha, the Tenderpad and first star boys. Closing exercises were taken by Bagherra. Slips were hand- ed out to be taken home to mothers regarding the auxiliary meeting to be held at the Scout House on Monday. ger visited Mr. and Mrs. John McCrackin, Listowel, on Fri- day. We ex- tend best wishes, McCallum-Adair Vows Exchanged GORRIE—A quiet wedding was solemnized at the Presby- terial manse in Wingham on Saturday, January 22 at 2 p.m. when Rev. Gordon Fish united in marriage Doris Adair of Wingham and Clarence Mc- Callum, Wroxeter R.R. 2. The bride is the daughter of the late Mr, and Mrs. Vic- tor Adair and the groom is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward McCallum. The bride was attired in a street-length dress of light blue brocaded silk, with round neck- line, sheath skirt and matching jacket with three-quarter lengt1- sleeves. Her corsage was of pink and white carnations. She wore a white velvet petal hat and accessories. Mrs. Albert Aitken, London, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. She wore a rose street-length brocaded silk dress with round neckline, three- quarter length sleeves and sheath skirt. Her corsage was of pink carnations. Sheldon Mann, Gorrie brother-in-law of the groom, was best man. The reception was held at Danny's Restuarant, Wingham. The couple left on a motor trip to Eastern United States. They will reside on the groom's farm Concession 3, klowick Township.
