BUSINESS SESSION
Following the naming of the
various committees the board
passed two routine by-laws cov-
ering the necessary borrowing
of funds during the year. Mo-
tions were approved granting
authority for the signing of
cheques and documents.
Wingham Police Chief Jas.
Miller was reappointed attend-
ance officer and his annual re-
port was read.
Miss Y. McPherson was re-
appointed as secretary-treasur-
er of the board. Her salary will
De negotiated with the manage-
ment committee.
A number of communica-
tions were read by the secretary,
with the result that the board
renewed membership in the As-
sociation of Secondary School
3oards 3htl with the Ontario
School Trustees Council.
The secretary told the board
:hat letters had been sent to
various councils in the school
area, requesting them to pass
notions approving the necessary
Debentures in order that the
'Wading plans and the financial
aroposal may be sent to the
Ontario Municipal Board. It
was reported that a number of
:he councils have already pass-
-d these motions, but several
:rustees expressed the view
that there should have been a
neeting with the councils be-
fore they were asked to ap-
)rove the proposal. As a re-
mit it was decided that a meet-
,ng will be held on January
31, at the school, to which

information of the building pro-
;ram that is available.

ment with the Goderich school
area covering the cost of tui-
tion for pupils from that area
who axe receiving education at
the Wingham school.
On the recommendation of
the cafeteria committee the
board approved the purchase of
a larger deep fryer.
The secretary reported that
final grants of $135,806 had
been received from the Depart-
ment of Education, bringing
the total for the year to $400-
062. which was $1,938 less
than the estimates.
Principal F. E. Madill told
the board that attendance dur-
ing December had averaged
900. He went on to say that
there had been 19 dropouts and
this had caused some concern.

A meeting had been held with
representatives from other
schools in the area where some
Dorothy Dentinger, 19, of
Teeswater received a fractured
elbow Monday in a car-truck
collision on highway 4, The
car in which she was a passen-
ger was wrecked and the truck
received $200 damage.
The car driver was Allan
McFarland, 17, of R, R. I Holy-
rood. Another passenger in the
car, Evelyn Harkness, 19, of
Teeswater was uninjured.
The car collided with a
tractor-trailer driven by Tho-
mas Fisher, 32, of R. R. 1,

Turnberry. The annual meeting of the
Wingham Recreation Commit-
tee was held in the Wingham
Council Chambers on Sunday
evening. The vice-chairman,
Mrs. II. Wild, chaired the
meeting in the absence of the
chairman, Jack Garbutt.
The report of activities car-
ried on by the committee in-
eluding playgrounds, swimming,
softball, hockey, highland
dancing etc., which was pre-
pared by the recreation direc-
tor, Ivan Kersell was read.
Roger West reported on the
activities of the Minor Hockey
Association, Minor hockey re-
quires more help so they can
have all boys who do not play
in organized hockey, play hoc-
key in a "house league", which
could possibly be held after 4
p.m. whet the arena is not us-
ed for other activities.
L. Casemore reported the
National Film Board would be
advertising in February on films
available for use by local or-
ganizations.
Considerable discussion arose
on the high cost of running the
hockey program which consists
mainly of buying sticks for the
players, The feeling was ex-
pressed that a lot of the sticks
are broken needlessly and this
should be eliminated.
The executive was re-elect-
ed for a two-year term; Chair-
man, Jack Gorbutt; vice chair-
man, Mrs. Harold Wild; secre-
tary-treasurer, Charles Perrott;

Board Chairman
Roy Wormington was elect-
ed chairman for 1966 at the in-
augural meeting of Turnberry
Township School Area Board.
Other members of the board are
Eldon Kirton, West Haugh,
Brian Metcalfe and Don Mont-
gomery.
Alex Corrigan was re-en-
gaged as secretary-treasurer at
a salary of $'700.,00 per year.
A decision was made that
children transported by bus who
do not obey the bus driver will
be refused such transportation.
The driver will notify the
child's parents, who must then
meet with the school board be-
fore the pupil will again be al-
lowed to ride by bus.
The caretaker reported that
repairs to the cleaning ma-
chine are needed and that ex-
tra parts should be purchased for
the furnace. The board decid-
ed to make the purchases.
Alex Corrigan was appointed
attendance officer for the year.
A motion was passed that the
secretary-treasurer pay teach-
ers', caretaker's and bus driv-
ers' salaries, hydro and tele-
phone bills and the Receiver-
General.
The following accounts were

$315.23; Imperial Oil, $324.50;

The principal also reported
that the school music concert
will be held on February 17 and
18.
To prevent falls in the bath
or shower, use a rubber bath
mat or strips fixed in the tub.
Where there are older persons in
the family, there should be a
handrail firmly fixed in the
wall, so that anyone can sup-
port himself when standing in or
leaving the bath.
