Boys' Basketball
BY GLEN MADILL
Once again the basketball
season is upon us and the Wing-
ham boys' teams seem to be
off to an unusually slow start.
Last Monday the Senior
team travelled to St. Marys for
an exhibition game. Unfor-
tunately for the St. Marys team
it was just a practice for they
soundly thumped Wingham by
the score. of 53-27. Murray
Procter was Wingham's top
scorer.
The regular schedule open-
ed on Thursday against Clinton,
in Clinton. We thought the
game at St. Marys was bad but
Clinton was an absolute disas-
ter area. Due to an oath tak-
en by all members of the sen-
ior team I am sworn to secrecy
and will not be able to release
the score.
The Junior boys also played
and met with the same fate„
but not so badly. They put up
a terrific battle but went down
to defeat 44-32.
Next week the boys are on
the road again. It was a ter-
rible way to start the season but
the teams are not discouraged,
so let's everyone get together
and get behind them, all the
way. We wish them better luck
next week.
Girls' Basketball
BY DIANNE GROVE
On Thursday of last week,
the first game to begin the jun-
ior and senior girls basketball
season was played at Wingharn
D.H,S,
The Junior girls played first.
They had some very good bas-
kets scored, but unfortunately,
even with all their efforts they
were defeated by the Clinton
girls, by a score of126-13,
The second game of the af-
ternoon was a battle between
the Clinton and Wingham sen-
iors. The Clinton team was
ahead in the first quarter and
kept this pace up until the
game ended, However, the
Wingham girls pulled them-
selves together and with four
minutes left, they started to
play basketball: I am sorry to
say that at this time I cannot
give you the score of this game,
as it has been lost and forgot-
ten.
On the whole, all the teams
made a fine showing and I am
sure everyone had fun,
Kathryn DuCharme
Still in Traction
Many students at W.D.H.S.
have been wondering how Kath•
ryn DuCharme is doing at Vic-
toria Hospital, London. She
sounds cheerful but must still
remain in London for another
couple of months.
Kathy was injured in an ac-
cident the latter part of Sep-
tember when she suffered a
broken and badly injured right
leg. The cast is now off the
lower part of the leg but she is
still in traction. She expects
they will know by the end of
January or early February what
must be done to the upper part
of the leg.
Kathryn sends her rega:ds to
all her friends and is looking
forward to getting home in
about two months' time,
(She didn't say this, but
here's a little reminder. Don't
forget the cards and letters,
kids. Two months can be an
AWFULLY long time. The ad-
dress is Room 629, Victoria
Hospital.)
Bonnie Willie
Is Patient in
Local Hosp.
Bonnie Willie, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Mike Willie of
town underwent surgery at
Wingham and District Hospital
last Thursday evening. Reports
on Tuesday indicated she was
beginning to feel a little bet-
ter.
By the way, Bonnie is grate-
ful to the students who are tak-
ing notes for her in class and
delivering them to the hospital,
