Mr. Birks Robertson, Tees- water, who has returned from visiting Mr. and Mrs. Cameron Robertson of Strathclair, Man., spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Edgar and Mr. and Mrs. Glad. Edgar. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Under- wood, Debbie and Kathy, visit- ed Saturday with Mrs. Wilbert Gallaway and other relatives and also with Mrs. Wesley Un- derwood in Wingham and Dis- trict Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Nickel, Teeswater spent Sunday at the same home. Miss Ruth Dempsey and Mr. Peter Nelson, Toronto, spent a few days with Mr. Jas. Ed- wards. Mr. Donald Whitfield, Tor- LAKELET Mr. and Mrs, Norman Harp- er of Lakelet left on a motor trip to Florida on Monday morn- ing. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Edward and children of London visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ken Dett- man and Mr. and Mrs. Clark Renwick over the week-end. At the Thursday night hoc- key game in Clifford the score was Fordwich Rockets 4, Lake- let Jets 7. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Green- ley have purchased the Lakelet Store but do not plan to take immediate posession. Mrs. Roy Simmons and Mrs. Wm. Sothem are spending sev- eral days this week with Mr. and Mrs. Doug Wildfang at Cooksville. Mr. and Mrs. Scott Keith and children of Oakville visited over the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Alex Keith. Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Vittie visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stewart in Listowel, Mrs. Ruby Forester and Nix, W.A. Makes Plans For Future Months FORDWICII—Trinity W.A. met at the home of Mrs. R. B. Watters last Wednesday. Mrs. E. Ferguson, vice-president, presided. "As With Gladness Men of Old", was sung and Mrs. E. Hargrave read the Scripture. Rev. II. Jenkins gave the medi- tation and led in the opening prayers. Roll call was a thought for Epiphany and payment of dues. Thirteen members and three visitors answered. A letter was read from the Attwell family and a letter of thanks from the Ontario Hospital at Goderich for gifts received. The quilt committee report- ed that two quilts were ready and a quilting was arranged. Mrs. Bruce Sotheran gave a reading, "A New Year's Wish". Miss E. Foster gave a poem, "Father Time". Mrs. E. Fer- guson read "According to Our Vision so Will Be Our Tomor- row". Bulletins were read by the different officers. It was de- cided to hold a bazaar in the fall. The World Day of Prayer will be held in Trinity Church on February 25th at 3 p.m. The birthday box and travel- ling basket will be used again this year. Trinity annual vestry meet- ing will be held on Monday, February 1 i at 8.30 p.m. Lunch will be served. Rev. Jenkins gave a few thoughts and closed with prayer. A game of "Live a Borrowed Life" was enjoyed and a pot luck lunch was serv- ed. Lakelet P. J.'s LAKELET—The eighth and final meeting of the Lakelet P.J.'s was held at the home of Mrs. Walter Demerling onJanu- ary 10th with eight members present. The meeting opened with the 4-H pledge, and the min- utes were read by Marion Doug- las. The roll call was, "Some- thing I have learned from this project". There was discussion on how to judge garments on achievement day, Feb. 5th. The members modelled their finished garments. Lunch was served at the close of the meet- ing. John Gamble accompanied Mrs. D. S. MacNaughton and Mr. John Mac'Naughton of Wingham to Milton one day last week and visited with Mr. and Mrs. John Mowatt. Best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Don Ruttan who were married Saturday. Miss Brenda Lee Denny and Mr. Larry Grierson of Erin spent the week-end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Moore. Mrs. Jessie O'Gorman is at present confined to Listowel Hospital, where she underwent surgery last week. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Jacobson, Kim and Shelly spent the week- end with Mr. and Mrs. Vern Jacobson of Guelph. Mr. Holger Espensen of Brampton is spending several weeks at his home here. Mr. Bob Bride of London spent the week-end at the home of his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Zur- brigg of Clifford visited on Sun- day with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hibberd. Mrs. Stanley Bride, board director of subdivision 11 of Women's Institutes, held a meeting at her home in Ford- wich last week for the execu- tive officers of North Perth, Centre Perth and East Huron District of W.I. A progressive euchre party was held at the home of Mr. Jack Winters, sponsored by the L. 0. L. 642 Fordwich. High prizes were won by Mrs. Ernie D' Arcy and Wally Gibson and consolation prizes by Mrs. Aus- tin Stinson and Nelson Thom- son. Afternoon Unit Holds Meeting FORDWICH—The Afternoon Unit of Fordwich U.C.W. held its January meeting in the Sun- day school room. Mrs. Parker Eurig was in charge of the wor- ship service basing her medi- tation on "Thoughts for the New Year". The Scripture was read by Miss Minnie McElwain and the comments on the Psalm of confidence were given by Mrs. Parker Eurig. A poem, "The New Year", was given by Mrs. G. F. John- ston, and a New Year's story was read by Mrs. Harold Wal- lace. Mrs. Warren Zurbrigg, unit leader, presided for the busi- ness period. Plans were made for patching quilts for the mis- sion bale. Mrs. Zurbrigg clos- ed the meeting, and a pot luck supper was enjoyed. Tuberculosis is not heredi- tary. Children are not born with it. The 500 or so child- ren admitted to Canada's sana- toria in 1.964 were infected by adults who had tuberculosis, re- cognized or not recognized. onto, spent the week-end with Mrs. E. W. Whitfield. The annual meeting of the Gorrie United Church will be held on January 24 at 8 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. George Brown, accompanied by Mrs. Webster Jacklin of Listowel visited Mr. Oliver McCreery in K-W Hos- pital, Kitchener on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. John Hackert and family, Woodstock, Mrs. Roy Clifford of Curries, Mr. Roy Koster, Ridgetown, Mr. Wm. Koster, Lakeside, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. C. Dickison and Miss Marion Ruttan, Teeswater, were among the guests at the Ruttan-Koster wedding on Sat- urday. The W. Hears Reports On 4-H Project LAKELET—Convened by the historical research and current events committee, the January meeting of the Lakelet Wo- men's Institute was held at the W. I. hall on Thursday after- noon. Scripture was read by Mrs. C. Scott. Roll call was answered with a current event or a ten cent fine. The 4-H homemaking club leaders reported the near com- pletion of the project "sleep- ing garments", with achieve- ment day for this area on Feb- ruary 5 at Howick Central School, The spring project will be " Accent on Accessories" with leaders training school Feb. 23 and 24th. It was decided to hold card parties every Thursday night. The motto, "According to our vision today, so will be our achievement tomorrow" was prepared by Mrs. R, Allan and presented by Mrs. E. Ferguson. The topic, "With the Wo- men's Institute in the North", given by Mrs. P. Huth, was most informative, relating the progress being made by the Women's Institutes in the far north and their plans for the future. "Live a borrowed life" prov- ed to be an entertaining item on the program. A social hour with refresh- ments concluded the meeting. St. Anne'sW.A. Met at Church FORDWICH—The January meeting of St. Anne's Guild was held in the church base- ment. The meeting opened with a hymn and prayer. During the study period Mrs. King read a chapter from the study book, "The Fruit of the Spirit". After Mrs. Hargrave read the minutes of the last meeting, the correspondence was read by Miss Elva Foster. The president, Mrs. Browne read a poem, "Heart's Desire", and the treasurer's report was given by Mrs. Wm. Sothern. Roll call, a New Year's resolu- tion, was answered by 15 mem- bers with Rev. H. Jenkens pre- sent. After a short business discus- sion members set a date for a tea and bake sale the latter part Df April. A motion was made that the Guild finance the re- placement of tables for the church and finish the redecorat- ing of the entry to the base- nent. Members were asked to think )f their secret pals, and to take .omething for the travelling )asket next month. Rev. Jenkens closed the neeting with prayer, and sveryone joined in repeating he Creed. Mrs. Lynn Bunker tad a very interesting contest, ind lunch was served by Mrs. 3rowne and Mrs. Sothern. I JUNIOR FARMERS ELECT—The 1966 slate of officers of the North Huron Junior Farmers was elected on Wednes- day evening at a meeting held in the high school. Seated is the new president, Bob Mathers, R. R. 2, Bluevale. Standing are Jim Spivey, assistant treasurer; Jim John- stone, director; Ross Veitch, secretary-treasurer; Don Procter, first vice-president; Don Martin, past president; Murray Scott, second vice-president; Don Pullen, assistant agricultural representative, who installed the new slate. —A-T Photo. 1
