Fine Double of 463
INTERMEDIATES
It seemed to be all or noth-
ing at all this week as three
teams were shut out. Jim Hen-

235 as the Walnuts took both
games from the Birches. Brian
Cronkwright rolled a fine dou-
ble of 337 as the Pines downed
the Oaks. Larry Gordon was
back in form rolling games of
195 and 205 as his Maples down-
ed the Poplars.
Patsy Walker took high single
and double with a 235 single
and 463 double.
JUNIORS
David Walker had the ball
working well as he rolled a 172
single and 304 double and these
scores along with Ron Perrott's
166 single were sufficient for
the Wings to take 5 points from
the Leafs.
The Habs with a full team on
hand took all points from the
Hawkes. Big gun in the Habs
victory was Paul Swatridge with,
167 single and 278 double.
The Bruins lost their first
game in several weeks but man-
aged to get 3 of the 5 points.
Bruce Henry with 186 single and
Lee Grove with 151 single led
the Ranger attack.
BANTAMS
Larry Simmons sure had the
pins flying and took both boy's
high single 134 and high double
251, as his Reds took 3 points to

COMMERCIAL LEAGUE
The Stampeders, by the
looks of things, have no inten-
tion of letting anyone get with-
in winning distance. Once
again they racked up 7 points to
put them away ahead of every-
one with 78. The Argonauts,
who are in second place, have
50 points and I think you will
all agree that it is going to be
mighty tough to make up 28
points. Rough Riders are in
third place with 46, Bombers
have 37, Ti -Cats have 33, and
in last place, are the Alouettes
with 32. Next week, I will
bring you up to date as to who
has high single, triple and aver-
age for the first half of our
bowling season.
Shirley Storey came through
with 273 for high single and the
high triple with 694. Tom
Cruickshank had a good night,
chalking up a 304 for the men's
high single, and getting his
name up on the 300 board, and
Jim Bain took the high triple
with 691. We thank spares
Bruce Machan, Jim Fraser and
Jack Sturdy for coming to our
aid.
No celebrations tonight, but
a lot of whispering and laugh-
ing, as the captains and their
respective teams planned their
separate programs for our com-
ing Christmas party. Sounds as
if we are going to have a good
time.

To Honor St. Basil .. .
Since the herald angels sang,
bringing "glad tidings of great
joy" to shepherds watching
their flocks, the people of
many lands have contributed
to the history of Christmas
hymns and carols,
In the fourth century, St.
Basil the Great of Greece
emerged victorious in his
struggle for Christianity with
the Byzantine Emperor Julian.
To celebrate this victory, a
musical poem or carol was
sung in his honor.
The first day of the New
Year is still celebrated as St.
Basil's day in Greece, and chil-
dren receive their "Christmas"
gifts on that day.

"Real Surprise"
On Varsity Team
An article in the Sports sec-
tion of Thursday's Toronto Dai-
ly Star on the Varsity Blues
speaks well of the performance
of Doug St. John, grandson of
Mrs. Donald Rae,
The Blues' hockey success
had previously depended on a
powerful attack but this year a
strong defence shares the credit.
The article stated, "Bob Aw-
rey is our team leader, Gil
Fermer and Jim Wilson have
been steady and Doug St. John
has been a real surprise."
"St. John, a 6 -foot -2, 195 -
pound rookie has been one of
the Blues' most impressive per-
formers. Although he failed to
crack the lineup last season,
he is now playing like a col-
lege veteran."
"St. John and Awrey, team-
ed on the same unit, give Blues
the hardest -hitting blue line
duet in the college league."
There was also a picture of
Doug along with the article.
