A social gathering was held
in the hall on Friday evening,
in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Boyd of the village. Games and
contests were enjoyed, after
which Mrs, Wilfred Johann
spoke briefly and presented them
with a mixette, a card table,
and an envelope of money. Bill
thanked everyone, and lunch
was served by members of the
United Church Women.
Mr. and Mrs, Carl Douglas
and Mrs. John Day of Wingham
attended the Wingham Public
School staff banquet held at the
Blue Barn, near Listowel, on
Friday evening.
Mrs. T. P. O'Malley and
Bill, Pat, Kevin, Larry and
Paul, and Mrs. James Struthers
and her grandchildren Heather,
Debbie and Todd Struthers of
Harriston, attended the annual
Christmas party held for em-
ployees of Campbell's Soups, in
Listowel on Saturday.
Friends were sorry to learn of
the passing of a former resident
of this area, Mrs. Joseph Vo-
gan. Mrs. Vogan passed away
on Sunday morning in Wingham
and District Hospital.
Services were cancelled in
the local Presbyterian Church
on Sunday, due to the treacher-
ous driving conditions.
Mr, and Mrs. Alan Graham
and family of Lueknow were
Sunday evening dinner guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Ballagh
and family.
Mr. and Mrs, James Struth-
ers and Mr. and Mrs. David Ire-
land of Teeswater called on
Sunday on Mr, Will Morton and
Miss Mary Morton, both pa-
tients in Durham Hospital, and
later visited with Mr. and Mrs,
Harold Morton and Mrs. Grasley,
all of Durham.
The condition of Mrs. Elmer
Zinn is somewhat improved af-
ter being seriously ill in K -W
Hospital for a number of days.
We hope the improvement con-
tinues.

The president, Mrs. V. Emer-
son opened the meeting with a
welcome and a Christmas poem.
Mrs. Johnston Conn, leader
of the group, presided for the
Christmas service of worship as
outlined in the Glad Tidings.
Taking part were Mrs. Dawson
Craig, Mrs. D. H. MacDonald
and Mrs. Don Ross, pianist. Mrs.
Johnston Conn gave the medi-
tation, "What shall we give to
God who has everything?" Gifts
now are advertised "buy now,
pay later". Is this the type of
gift we give to God? Or do we
give back if He gives to us?
There are opportunities -- a
criminal, the sick, sorrowful,
poor, children, undernourished,
all need your help and these you
can befriend in the name of
God. Mrs. Robert Ross led in
prayer.
The magic of Christmas
Eve" was given by Mrs. Don
Ross. This was a story of a sol-
dier at Christmas time in the
Holy Land, who decided to ac-
cept Christ as his Saviour.
A missionary's letter was
read by Mrs. James McInnes.
The minutes were read by
Mrs. Russel Ross. The offering
was received by David Ross and
dedicated by Mrs. V. Emerson.
It was decided to again have the
meetings in the homes.
Mrs. Wallace Conn gave a
reading, "Plenty to Give" .
The Ladies' Aid meeting fol-
lowed. Mrs. H. D. MacDon-
ald's financial report showed a
balance of $71.21. It was de-
cided to send $25.00 of trust
money to Mrs. J. Richardson,
Central America, to be used in
mission work.
The ladies have sold the log
cabin cloth quilt they had quilt-
ed.
uilted. Plans were made for the
lunch to be served at the Sun-
day school concert, Dec. 22.

Mrs. Claude Coffin, Mr. and
Mrs. Richard Coffin and Dean
of Kitchener and John Coffin of
Galt were Sunday callers at
their home here.

B.D., conducted "Discovery
Week" at the town hall last
week for public school
children. Bible stories were
told every day, some anima-
ted with puppets and col-
ored slides.
TAKE PART IN PROGRAM
FOR SENIOR CITIZENS
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emer-
son were in Mildmay on Wed-
nesday where Mrs. Emerson as-
sisted the Mildmay Women's
Institute entertain senior citi-
zens of Mildmay and Carrick
Township. She gave a humor-
ous address on "Bells", con-
cluding with the singing of
"Jingle Bells" accompanied by
the ringing of bells.
There were 53 senior citi-
zens in attendance of which
about half were men. The old-
est man present, Mr. Dahm,
91, played several accordion
selections, while another sen-
ior citizen step danced. Sever-
al others took part in the pro-
gram which concluded with a
visit from Santa Claus who dis-
tributed gifts to everyone.
This is the second year the
Mildmay W.I. has entertained
the senior citizens and they
find it very rewarding arid the
attendance is increasing each
year.

which was dedicated by Earl
Thompson. Roll call was an-
swered by 20 members.

Sleightholm and Joyce Tiffin
sang "Silent Night". The lead-
ers Mrs. E. Sleightholm and
Mrs. Clarence Ritchie told
Christmas stories.
The election of officers for
1906 had the following results:

rie's School. Those receiving

ma will be presented and there
will be carol singing. Lunch

Mrs. Jos. Vogan Mrs. Wm. Griffith
Buried Tuesday Funeral Monday
Mrs. Joseph Vogan, 82 Vic-
toria St., Winghani, died Sat-
urday evening in Wingham and
District hospital. Mrs. Vogan,
who was in her 85th year was
hospitalized after a fall on Oc-
tober10.
She was the eldest daughter
of the late Nathaniel I larris and
Lucy Marsh and was born in
Carrick Township April 4, 1881.
She married Joseph Vogan on
January 18, 1905. They farmed
on lot 5, concession 3 Carrick
until they moved to Wingham
in 1950. Mr. Vogan prede-
ceased her in 1959,
Mrs. Vogan had been an ac-
tive member of McIntosh Unit-
ed Church. She had worked
with the Mission Band and the
Women's Missionary Society, of
which she was a life member,
She is survived by three sons,
Harry of Moncton, N.13., Bruce
of Toronto and Ross of Stratford,
and five grandchildren. A
daughter, Lillian predeceased
her in 1944.
Rev. C. M. Jardine con-
ducted funeral service at the R.
A. Currie & Sons funeral home
on Tuesday afternoon withtem-
porary entombment in the cha-
pel at Wingham Cemetery.
Burial will be in McIntosh Cem-
etery.
Pallbearers were John Doig,
George Harper, George Nickle,
Oliver Dustow, Everett Dustow
and Alex Inglis. The grand-
children were flower bearers.
BOUNCING BOBBINS
WROXETER--The seventh
meeting of the Bouncing Bob-
bins was held at the home of
Mrs. Andy Gibson. The 4-H
pledge and motto were said and
the group decided on a Christ-
mas party when mothers will be
guests. Seven members an-
swered the roll call.
The leaders showed how to
make a buttonhole and sew on
lace.
Relatives in Howick were
saddened by the passing in Tor-
onto on Saturday of Mrs, Wil-
liam (Iva) Griffiths, who was
85 years of age.
She was born on April 12,
1880 in Maryborough Twp., a
daughter of the law William
Fleet and his wife, Ruth Bacon.
Iter husband, William Griffith,
died several years ago.
Surviving are two sons, Gor-
don of Toronto and Lloyd of
Ilowick; one daughter, Mrs.
Michael (Lenora) Telehus, Tor-
onto; five brothers, John, Lloyd
and Billiard of Toronto; Blake
of Ilowick Twp. and William
of Simcoe; and two sisters, Mrs.
Ida Swance of Mitchell and
Mrs. Chas. (Lorna) Small, How -
ick. There are 10 grandchild-
ren and six great-grandchildren.
Service was held at the Moir
funeral home in Gorrie on Mon-
day at 2 p.m. with interment
in the Wroxeter cemetery. Rev.
Wilfred J. 1 Iird had charge of
the services.
