Show Biz
If you want entertainment,
then stay home and watch tele-
vision! But if you want to see a
picture that will make you
think, and some top acting per-
formances,
erformances, go to the theatre
and see "The Collector" when
it hits these parts, An English -
produced picture, it is now
making its rounds in Western
Ontario cities, boring or amus-
ing audiences, or keeping peo-
ple bn the edges of their seats.
It is the story of a young
Englishman, an entomologist,
who takes great pride in hisbut-
terfly collection. But he is a
disturbed and lonely young man,
who feels that he can fit in no-
where, that everyone is laugh-
ing at him, that he has no
friends. So he adds to his col-
lection a beautiful girl, an art
student he has secretly admir-
ed and followed for sometime.
He brings her to the cellar of
his remote country home and
there hides her and pampers
her, in the hopes that she will
come to admire and love him.
But unfortunately, he finds that
you cannot force someone to
like and respect you; respect
must be earned. The ending is
surprising, and doesn't solve a
thing. In fact, the entire mo-
vie is more baffling than enter-
taining. But perhaps one can
recognize a little of himself in
the young man who will do any-
thing to get what he wants and,
in the end, only cheats him-
self.
The picture has won critics'
praise many places where it has
played, The reasons for this
are the direction of William
Wyler, who has brought us
many of our screen masterpiec-
es (" Ben Hur" among them),
and the fantastic acting per-
formances of the two English
stars, Terence Stamp and Sam-
antha Eggar. With the excep-
tion of two other bit actors who
appear on the screen no more
than five minutes, they are the
only two people that you see in
the production. Any stars have
to be great to hold your atten-
tion for that period of time,
and these young stars are the
greatest. They received best
acting awards at this year's
Cannes Film Festival, and will
almost certainly be recognized
in the year's Oscar race in Hol-
lywood. He made a huge im-
pression in an earlier movie
"Billy Budd", but she is com-
paratively new to North Ameri-
can audiences. She will be
around to stay for sometime, In
private life she is the former
best gal of the movies' "Tom
Jones", Albert Finney. She is
now wed to another English ac-
tor Tom Stern, and the mother
of a young son.

After being without them
since last spring, we must ad-
mit that it was great to see
Johny Wayne and Frank Shuster
back, and laugh again at their
refreshing brand of humour.
Their first show of the new sea-
son was seen on last week's
'Show of the Week', Their sum-
mer was spent in 13ritain where
they performed for 1313C -Tele-
vision; in Charlottetown, where
they helped to direct the sum-
mer festival; and on a cross-
country tour with a stage show
produced first in the Prince Ed-
ward Island city. In Charlotte-
town they performed with a
young Alberta -born singer, 23 -
year -old Judy Armstrong. They
introduced her to the entire
country on their first show, and
a joy she is to watch and hear.
She is a graduate of the Nation-
al Theatre School in Montreal,
is equally at home acting, sing-
ing; or dancing. Last year she
played 'Irma La Douce' at Van -

couver, is now concentrating
more on singing and dancing,
as she plays Canadian clubs.
After last week's showing she
should be in demand for tele-
vision also.

Good news in Hollywood last
week, as actress Dorothy Ma-
lone returned to work on the set
of television's "Peyton Place".
Her recuperation has been amaz-
ingly rapid after lying near
death for a number of days in
September. She is now com-
pletely recovered, for which her
fans are very grateful. Lola Al-
bright was her replacement dur-
ing her illness.
News out of Toronto was not
so happy. Johny Niosi, young-
est of the musical brothers,
passed away at a Toronto Hos-
pital at the age of 51. He was
the drummer in the family,
played with Jack Kane's Music
Makers, and has been featured
on Juliette's show this season.
Brother Bert leads his own band,
plays clarinet; brother Joe is an
accomplished player of the
bass violin and cello.

there have been some plans
made and it is hoped that all
will be there to take part. At
