Wm. J. Elliott,
Retired Farmer
Dies at Home
William James Elliott, 76,
of Centre St. , died suddenly at
his home Thursday.
He was born in East Wawan-
osh, son of the late Isabella and
John Elliott. He farmed in that
township until he retired to
Wingham in October 1962. Mr.
Elliott had been secretary -
treasurer of East Wawanosh
Township for many years, as
was his father before him.
He was a member of Wing -
ham Masonic Lodge and Bel -
grave Loyal Orange Lodge, and
of Wingham United Church.
Surviving are two brothers,
J. Stanley of St. Catharines and
Raymond of Bluevale, and a sis-
ter, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Mont-
gomery of Wingham.
The body rested at the R. A.
Currie and Sons funeral home
where the funeral was conduct-
ed Monday by Rev. C. Jardin
;of Wingham United Church.
Burialwas in Wingham Ceme-
tery. A Masonic service was
held at the funeral home Sun-
day at 2 p.m.
Pallbearers were Frank Salt-
er, George Currie, Elmer Ar-
buckle, Ross Gray, Elmer Ire-
land and Lloyd Montgomery.
Don Fraser and Anson Ruttan
were flower bearers.
Ross Murray
Dies Suddenly
WHITECHURCH—Charles
Tiffin received word on Friday
from Sandy Murray of Sharon,
that his uncle, Ross Murray who
was in his early sixties, had
been found dead Friday morn-
ing in front of the television set
in his home.
Ross Murray lived with his
grandfather, the late "Big Tom
Ross" as he was known to many
here. In early childhood the
two months of summer holidays
were always spent at the cot-
tage on grandfather's farm whets
the children played with other
youngsters of the neighborhood,
He is survived by a sister,
Mrs. Waldorf (Elizabeth) Bramp
ton and brothers, Gordon, Rob-
ert, Alex and Donald.
Thomas Cook Dies
In Nursing Home
Thomas Cook passed away in
Brookhaven Nursing Home after
a lengthy illness on Tuesday,
September 4, in his 94th year.
Mr. Cook was born at West-
field in East Wawanosh Town-
ship. He was the son of the
late John Cook and Janet Rod-
ger. He was never married,
and made his home with his
brother Fred until 14 years ago
when he became a patient at
Brookhaven.
He was a member and faith-
ful attendant of Westfield
Church, where he assisted by
pumping the organ for many
years, before ill health prevent-
ed him from attending this duty.
Surviving sisters, Mrs. Eliza-
beth Snell of Clinton, Mrs.
Reginald (Mae) Carter of Wood-
stock, Mrs. Eva McKnight of
Sarnia and brothers, Walter of
Blyth, Gordon of Cochrane and
George of Belgrave. Four
brothers, Jasper, David, Fred
and Wesley and one sister,
LiIlyBell predeceased him.
The funeral service was held
on Thursday at 2 o'clock from
the S. J. Walker funeral home,
Wingham. Captain A. Ferris
of the Salvation Army officiat-
ed.
The pallbearers were Arnold
Cook, Wesley Cook, Borden
Cook, Norman McDowell, Har-
vey McDowell and Lloyd Wal-
den. Interment was in Brandon
Cemetery, Belgrave,
Langside C.O.C,
Hold Meeting
WHITECHURCH-- Langside
Presbyterian Children of the
Church met in the Community
Hall during the Sunday service
with their leaders, Mrs. Mof-
fat and Miss Marion Wall in
charge.
The president, Russel Young
gave the call to worship. A
hymn was sung and Carolyn Mc-
Gillvary read the Scripture.
The roll call was answered by

The secretary, Janice Wall
read the minutes. The collec-
tion was received by Ricky
Conley and the offertory prayer
given by Agnes Conley. Marion
Wall gave the topic story.

Course at W'.D.H.S.
A course in Farrn Manage-
ment, sponsored by the Depart-
ment of Agriculture, will be
given aspart of the evening
classes at the Wingham District
High School. The course will
deal with the principles of
decision •- making on the farm
as it affects farm profits,
This is not a course telling
the individual how to farm but
to assist in making profitable
decisions. Topics will include
soils, beef, dairy, swine, in-
surance, income tax, and par-
tial budgetting. Instructor will
be D, H. Miles, agricultural
representative for Huron Coun-
ty, assisted by guest speakers.
Please note that this course
will not begin until Wednesday,
October 27th at 8 p.m. Fee
for the course is $10.00.

ACTIVITIES
HAPPY HOSTESSES
WHITECHURCH— The Happy
Hostesses met Wednesday eve-
ning at the home of Miss Janis
Farrier, Miss Sandra Fisher
opened the meeting. Five
members were present. Pamela
King read the minutes and roll
call was answered by "One thing
I appreciate in a guest room".
The discussion was on shar-
ing the family meal, meal
planning, table setting service
and table manners and pleasant
conversation. Mrs. Dave Gibb
demonstrated the proper method
of folding a tablecloth for iron-
ing. Mrs, Leroy Rintoul dem-
onstrated table setting and each
girl practised good eating habits.
A contest was also held on the
discussion.
WHITECHURCH—The Hap-
py Hostesses met on Monday
evening at the home of Mrs.
Leroy Rintoul. The roll call
was answered with an exchange
of material for the reference
file. The discussion was on
purpose, equipment and how to
serve for formal and informal
teas, and preparations for
Achievement Day. The dem-
onstration was making of fancy
sandwiches. Group work was
acting as hostesses and home
assignment and the roll call
were given. The next meeting
is Monday at the home of Miss
Pamela King.
W.A. Meets
GORRIE—Miss Nellie Ball
showed slides of France, Swit-
zerland and Great Britain at
the September meeting of the
Women's Auxiliary of St. Steph-
en's Anglican Church held in
the Sunday School room on
Thursday evening.
Mrs. Gordon Underwood,
president, presided for the eve-
ning devotions and brief busin-
ess session. The rector closed
with prayer. Lunch and a social
time were enjoyed.
4-H Club Holds
First Meeting
BELGRAVE—The first meet-
ing of Belgrave 1 4-H home-
making club was held Monday
after school at Mrs. Hanna's
home.
The result of the election of
officers was president, Janette
Johnston; vice-president, Linda
Rinn; secretary, everyone in
turn; press reporter, Lois Rinn.
It was decided to leave the
naming of the club to the next
meeting. The club will meet
after school at Mrs. Hanna's.
Lois Rinn told what should be
in a sewing basket. Janette
Johnston and Linda Rinn dem-
onstrated measuring. Mrs. Ilan
na gave the subject matter,
"Good Sleeping Garments" and
Mrs. Johnston spoke on "Select-
ing material, colour and de-
sign, printed fabrics and trim-
mings"

can Church on Sunday.

BLUEVALE—Anniversary
services held in the United
Church on Sunday had Rev. J.
Donald MacDonald, B, S. C. ,
B.D. , of Goderich, as guest
speaker.
His morning subject was,
"Perils in Church Going", and
in the evening he spoke on,
"Things We're Apt to Forget".
His sermons were inspirational
and practical, relating the ear-
ly church' to the church of to-
day.
The minister of the church,
Rev. G. C. Mitchell, conduct-
ed the evening service, having
preached at Goderich, in the
morning.
The choir provided special
music with Mrs. Carl Johnston,
organist, conducting. Anthems
were sung at both services. In
the morning Miss Grace Math-
ers sang a solo. In the evening
a double trio, Mrs. Glen Sel-
lers, Mrs. Harold Johnston,
Misses Grace and Ruth Mathers,
Elizabeth Goldthorpe and Marg-
aret Craig sang, "I Love to Tell
the Story" .
Masses of late summer flow-
ers brightened the church.

Mother's Funeral
Held in Listowel
Funeral service was held in
Listowel on Saturday for Mrs.
Albert Goodyer, 76, who died
at Maple Leaf Rest Home in At-
wood an Wednesday. Mrs.
Goodyer was the mother of Mrs.
Robert Carbert of Weston, for-
merly of Wingham.
She is survived by two daugh-
ters, two sons, nine grand-
children and a brother, Samuel
Ash of Bluevale.
