Mrs. Janette Lindsay of Tor-
onto visited over the week -end
with her sister, Miss Ruth John-
ston,
Mr. and Mrs. Ernie D'Arcy
and Mrs. Jessie O'Gorman spent
the week -end with Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Welsch in Toronto,
The latter remained and will
visit for a couple of weeks.
Mr. Ken Ashton of Brussels
visited Saturday with Mr. and
Mrs. George Ashton.
Mr. Roy Simmons spent a
couple of days last week with
Mr. and Mrs. Doug Wildfang at
Cooksville. Mrs. Simmons re-
turned home after spending
several days there.
Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Camp-
bell took their son Bob to Tor-
onto on Monday, and on Tues-
day he left for Barriefield where
he has joined the Corps of Royal
Canadian Electrical and Mech-
anical Engineers.
Mrs. Elwood Rowe of At-
wood has purchased the cottage
of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Martin
and will be moving it from
their property in the near future.
Mr. Leslie Norris of Brant-
ford spent a couple of days last
week with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Norris.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Hard-
ing, Mrs. John Markovitch and
Philip spent a couple of days
last week with relatives in Lon-
don and Mount Bridges.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Hueth-
er of London visited last week
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Wray Cooper.
Mrs. Edna Bride is spending
two weeks with Mr. and Mrs.
Stephen Butchart in Toronto.
Miss Karen Carswell, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence
Carswell, left for London last
week where she has entered the
school of nursing in St. Joseph's
Hospital, London.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Stafford
and family of Kitchener visited
one day last week with Mr. and
Mrs. Jim Vittie.
Miss Marion Ruttan of Tees -
water spent the week -end with
Mr. and Mrs. Russel Ruttan.
Miss Glenna Hibberd of Kit-
chener spent the week -end with

der of Kitchener spent a few
days last week with Mr. and
Mrs. Bruce Armstrong.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Johnson
visited Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. Ed Neeb at Oliphant Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. Chris Van De
Water and family left by motor
on Tuesday for Vancouver,
where they will reside. They
recently sold their farm on the
sixth concession of Howick,
where they have resided for the
past few years.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Gauthier
and two children of Minto,
N.B., moved their household
belongings into the cottage of
Mr. Herbert Ross, who is now
residing with his son in Weston.
Mr. and Mrs. Ken Graham
attended the anniversary servi-
ces in the United Church at
Keady on Sunday, and also
visited with relatives in the
area.
The anniversary services of
the Fordwich United Church
will be held Sunday, Sept. 19,
at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Guest
minister in the morning will be
Rev. Stevens of Delmore and in
the evening, Rev. Pillen of
Pine River.
Mr, and Mrs. Jack King and
family spent Sunday in London
and visited with Miss Barbara
Hannah, in Victoria Hospital.
MULVEY—To Mr. and Mrs. Wil-
liam Mulvey (Nancy Soth-
ern) of BeLnore and former-
ly of Fordwich, a daughter,
on Sept. 9th, in Bruce Coun-
ty Hospital, Walkerton.
COOPERS ARE SAFE
IN HURRICANE AREA
FORDWICH—Mr. and Mrs.
Cecil Cooper were relieved on
Friday when they received a
phone call from head office of
the Canadian Imperial Bank of
Commerce, informing them
that their son Allan and family
were safe in the Bahamas.
Allan is manager of the
bank's branch in Abaca, where
Hurricane Betsy was having
such a wild time.
Hold Training School Here
A training school for 4-H
Club .leaders was held at the
Salvation Army Citadel on
Tuesday under the direction of
Miss Diane Liddiard, horse
economist for Huron County.
Miss Liddiard, whose home is
in Montreal, has been working
in Huron since the first of July,
She is living in Clinton and
working out of the Clinton Agri-
cultural office.
There are 46 441 Clubs in
the county and four schools for
the leaders will be held, The
one held here saw twelve clubs
represented. They were Mon-
ctief, St. Helens, two from
Blyth, Belgrave and Bluevale
as well as Zion, Colwanash,
Brussels and Wingham.

At UCW Meeting
DONNYBROOK --The Septem-
ber meeting of the U.C. W.
was held Wednesday afternoon
at the home of Mrs. Stuart
Chamney. The call to worship
was given by Mrs. Wesley Jef-
ferson who had charge of the
program and also led in prayer.
Mrs. Murray Wilson read the
Scripture. Rev. Mr. Wheeler
led in prayer.
Mrs. John Hildebrand had
charge of the study book and
Mrs. Margaret Leddy read from
"This Is Brazil". After singing
"0, God of Bethel", Mrs. Hil-
liard Jefferson conducted the
business. Mrs. Stuart Cham-
ney read the minutes of the
previous meeting and the offer-
ing was received. Mrs. Gordon
Naylor read a poem, "My
Spirit Will Grow Up". Mr.
Wheeler closed the meeting
with the benediction.
Lunch was served by the host-
ess,
ostess, assisted by Mrs. Ernest
Snowden and Mrs. Margaret Led-
dy.
Hear Report on
Training School
FORDWICH—The Afternoon
Unit of the U.C.W. met in the
Sunday School rooms for their
September meeting. Mrs. Sam
Johnston had charge of the wor-
ship service taking as her theme,
"The gratitude we should have
to God for a bountiful harvest" .
Psalm 23 was repeated in uni-
son and a meditation on the
psalm followed.
A very interesting report of
the leaders' training school,
held at Alma College was giv-
en by Mrs. Warren Zurbrigg.
The study book was given by
Mrs. Jack Wilson and Mrs. Ver-
na
erna Galbraith. Articles by Jack
Scott of the Toronto Star, on
conditions in Reufe, Brazil were
read.
Mrs. Zurbrigg presided for
the business period. Roll call
was a verse on "Harvest". It
was voted to cater to a wedding
in early November.
At the close, a dainty lunch
was served by Mrs. WrayCoop-
er, Mrs. C. Carswell and Mrs.
Bruce Agla.
St. Anne's Guild
Holds Meeting
FORDWICH--St. Anne's
Guild met at the home of Ruby
Forster for the September meet-
ing. Mrs. Grace Browne pre-
sided and Rona Browne read the
Scripture lesson. Florence Fos-
ter gave a chapter from the
study book on Susan Melot Bow-
en.
The minutes were read by
Alma Hargrave. The corres-
pondence was read by Elva Fos-
ter, also a thank you to the
guild from Mrs. Anderson for
her gift before leaving for their
new home in London.
Roll call was answered by 15
members naming a place in the
Bible and its importance. Jean
Sothern and Lynn Bunker were
appointed to get infortnation
and prices on new tables for the
basement.
The members voted against
having a fowl supper. A read-
ing "A Farmer's Wife" was giv-
en by Mrs. Hargrave. Ruby
Armstrong conducted contests.

Evening Unit
FORDWICH—The Evening
Unit of the U.C.W. met at the
home of Mrs. Scott Clarkson.
Mrs. Carl Ettinger assisted Mrs.
Clarkson with the theme, which
was on Trinidad.
A hymn was followed by
Scripture reading, Mrs. Carl
Ettinger read a poem, "Septem-
ber Song". Mrs. Jack Brown
took charge of the closing ex-
ercises and a social hour was
enjoyed.

have returned from a nine
weeks' holiday in Scotland,
England, Holland, Germany,
Switzerland, France and Italy.
Master Jimmy Felker visited
a week recently at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Murray Shiell,
Listowel.
Miss Kathleen Powell of
Kitchener spent the week -end
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Russell Powell.
District Couple
On Pilgrimage
The 10th pilgrimage to Can-
adian war graves in Holland
leaves Montreal today, Septem-
ber 16, Some 140 relatives of
Canadian war dead will spend
10 days based at Nijmegen as
guests of Dutch citizens,
Organized by the Royal Can-
adian Legion in Canada and the
Netherlands War Graves Com-
mittee in Holland, the ten pil-
grimages will have enabled 920
relatives to visit Canadian
cemeteries at low cost.
While in Holland, the pil-
grims will have accomrnoda*
tions and food provided by
Dutch families. An extensive
program has also been arranged
for the 10 -days.
The pilgrimage returns to
Montreal on September 25.
Mr. and Mts. Gordon Finlay-
son of R. R. 3, Lucknow are
amongst the pilgrims and will
visit the grave of his brother,
Lt. R, A, Finlayson,
