Show Biz
September has made its en-
trance, and with it comes pub-
licity concerning CBC Tele-
vision's new autumn and winter
schedule. It has undergone
many changes frorn that of last
season; in fact, the number of
old favourites returning is small
compared to that of otheryears.
"Flashback", "Ed Sullivan",
"Bonanza" , and "This Hour Has
Seven Days" will all be back in
the same time slots on Sunday
evenings. All will look much
the same as last year, with the
exception of 'Bonanza', which
will be feeling the loss of Per-
nell Roberts, or eldest son Ad-
am, who is at last bowing out
of the series with an eye toward
branching out into other facets
of show business. "Perry Mason'
is another old favourite that will
be showing up on some CBC
stations on Sunday evening,
probably at 6 p.m. Filming
has already begun on the ninth
'Mason' season episodes.
Monday evening is compris-
ed of familiar series, but some
are time changes. "Don Mes-
ser" still holds down the 7;30
spot, with "The Fugitive" slat-
ed for 8 p.m., and"Show of
the Week" set back an hour to
9. It will again offer top Can-
adian drama and variety, in-
cluding the Wayne and Shuster
Hour. On September 13, the
Paul Anka Show, a production
taped in the Canadian singer's
hometown of Ottawa last spring
will be shown.
On Tuesday evening, our
greatest 'old favourite' and a
friend who has been absent from
the CBC in the last year, will
be returning. The Red Skelton
Hour will be seen at 8 p.m. , to
be followed at 9 by "Front Page
Challenge" with the same host
and panel, if Gordon Sinclair
doesn't put his big foot in his
mouth and require surgery be-
fore then! Our best public af-
fairs show, "CBC Newsmaga-
zine" will return at 10 on Tues-
day evenings.
Wednesday's all-time high-
light (??), "Festival", will be
back at 9:30. It will debut on
September 15th with the Nation-
al Ballet of Canada in "Romeo
and Juliet". It will be followed
on the 22nd by a drama "A
Cheap Bunch of Nice Flowers"
which will star Broadway actress
Colleen Dewhurst, native Can-
adian and ex-wife of actor
George C. Scott, in her first
CBC role. Other promising
dramas in the series include
"Romeo and Jeanette", starr-
ing Michael Sarrazin and Gene-
vieve Bujold (We saw them
interviewed recently on the El-
wood Glover afternoon show.);
"The Summer of the 17th Doll",
with Eric House; "Silent Night,
Lonely Night", starring Frances
Hyland and Paul Harding; and
a repeat of last season's "Ber-
nard Shaw: Who The Devil
Was He?". There will also be
musical concerts presented on
"Festival" next season.
"Telescope" will return on a
new evening this year, Thurs-
day at 9:30 with its first show on
September 16th. That program
will visit with comedians Wayne
and Shuster as they work on the
BBC; as they perform at Char-
lottetown, P.M.; and as they
relax at their Toronto homes.
Other 'Telescope' shows will
feature the dukes of England; a
family of bush pilots; a leading
North American jockey; a film
essay on the English 'pub'; an
examination of four Canadian
architects; the story of the in-
ternational diamond business;
and a look at impressionist Rich
Little. Another change to
Thursday evening will be made
by "The Serial", a Canadian
series which features stories by
Canadian authors. The other
shows to return will be "The
Eeverly Hillbillies", "Hockey
Night in Canada", and "The
exciting ever and they're all
free.
Advance sale tickets are
back again for this year's fair.
These tickets sell for $1.00
each and each ticket is good for
one adult admission or up to
four children's admissions.
