At Meeting

Church Messengers held their
meeting at the home of their
superintendent, Mrs. Clarence
Ritchie. Call to worship was
given by John Gibb. JoyceTif-
fin read Scripture and Mrs, Rit-
chie gave the meditation.
Prayer was offered by John Wall•
Mrs, Ritchie gave the story,
"The Girl with the Turned -up
Nose" . Irene Wall received the
offering and the dedicatory
prayer was given by Janet
Sleightholm. Charles Tiffin
read the minutes and 21 answer-
ed
nswered the roll call.
Mrs. Ritchie told another
story, "The Lamb" and John
Gibb closed the meeting with
prayer.

An interesting article ap-
peared in the Moose Jaw Herald
early in July, a copy of which
was received by Mr. and Mrs.
Norman Keating. It concerns
James Knox, 84, of MooseJaw
and Mrs. A. E. Powell, 71, of
Caron, who were named "Sod -
buster King and Queen" for the
Moose Jaw area at a Founders'
Day banquet.
Mr. Knox was born in Morris
Township, near Wingham in
1881. He went to Saskatche-
wan in 1902 and homesteaded in
the Tuxford district.
Mr. Knox was reeve ofMar-
quis municipality for 31 years,
president of the Rural Munici-
pality Association for 14 years,
president of the Urban Munici-
pality Assoc., for one year and
was with the Anti -Tuberculosis
League for 25 years.
He was alderman on the
Moose Jaw city council for six
years, chairman of the Moose
Jaw Union Hospital Board for 17
years, a member of United
Church Session for 17 years and
a member of the Municipal
Hall Board.
Founders' Day at the Moose
Jaw Exhibition was part of the
province's 60th anniversary cele-
bration. Mrs. Powell and Mr.
Knox will be among the eleven
Sodbuster Kings and Queens
from across the province to be
honored before the legislature.
Mrs. Powell received a jubi-
lee lily pin and Mr. Knox, dia-
mond jubilee cufflinks at the
banquet.
