U.C. W. for the May meeting
on Wednesday. The leader,
Mrs. Alvin Fitch, opened the
meeting with a worship service.
Mrs. Mulvey, pianist, led in a
sing -song of favorite hymns.

Mrs. Robert Searson conduct-
ed an interesting study from
"The Word and the Way", and
the temperance reading by Mrs.
Tom Abraham was concerned
with the misleading forms of
alcohol advertising used today.
For the roll call several flowers
of the Bible were mentioned
and the ladies exchanged flow-
er slips.
Plans were finalized for a
congregational supper to be
held June 7.
Surprise Parte
At Lewis Home
A surprise party was held by
the neighbors for Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Lewis at their home on
Saturday evening, celebrating
their 25th wedding anniversary.
Euchre was enjoyed.
An address was read by Mrs.
Walter Willets and a pole lamp
was presented by Norman Ross
and Clarence Henning.
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis made a
fitting reply and lunch was ser-
ved by Mrs. Norman Ross, Mrs.
Clarence Henning, Mrs. Bill
Ross and Mrs. John De Groote.

Gideons Hold
Annual Rally
Arno Kelly of Kincardine
was re-elected zone leader of
Zone 5 of the Gideons, at their
annual rally and banquet held
in the Salvation Army Citadel
on Monday. More than 60 Gid -
eons, along with their wives
and other guests, attended.
Mr. Kelly acted as chairman
for the meeting. Head table
guests included Captain and
Mrs. A. Ferris, Mr. and Mrs. Wil-
liam Clark of Walkerton, Mr.
and Mrs. Kelly, Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Beck of Harriston and Rev.
and Mrs. C. F. Johnson. Rev.
Johnson represented the Wing -
ham and District Ministerial
Association.
The program included a
sing -song led by Dr. B. N. Cor-
rin, solo by Mrs. Arno Kelly
and a duet by Mr. and Mrs. Al-
vin Leonard of Owen Sound.
Mr. Webb of the Glammis dis-
trict was pianist.
Camps registering were Blue
Mountain, Dufferin, Owen
Sound, Wingham, Hanover and
Kincardine. The six camps re-
ported a total of over 2,900
Testaments given out this past
year and 235 Bibles. Owen
Sound camp headed the camps
with 900 Testaments given out
and Blue Mountain, second,
with 600. Blue Mountain re-
ported holding 12 church ser-
vices and an 81 per cent at-
tendance in their camp. Han-
over camp reported placing 100
Bibles this past year.
Guest speaker was Mayor
Fred Beck of Harriston, a Gid-
eon for 33 years. Mr. Beck
told the Gideons they should be
men of faith, action and obed-
ience. He said one of the main
missions of the Gideons is to
win others to Christ as well as
the placing of the Scriptures.
Merrill Cantelon and Jack
Currie were in charge of the
registration.

Mr. and Mrs. John Sinnamon
and family of Wroxeter and his
mother, Mrs. H. Sinnamon and
Hugh of Wingham, visited on
Sunday at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. E. W. Beecroft.

The U. C, W, will hold their
regular meeting on June 9th at
the home of Mrs. Albert Coul-
tes, The meeting had to be
changed from the regular day,
June 2nd, to June 9 on account
of the anniversary services.
Mr. and Mrs. George Coffin,
Sharon and Cindy of Galt visit-
ed on Sunday with his mother,
Mrs. Emma Coffin and John.
Mr, and Mrs. Dan Tiffin and
Joyce, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Tif-
fin were Sunday visitors with
Mrs. Billie McInnes of Walker-
ton.
Mr. Bevan Tiffin and Mr. Ron
Schefter began work at Tees -
water Creamery last Thursday.

Langside were Sunday guests
of Mr. and Mrs.Johnston Conn
and attended anniversary ser-
vices at Chalmers Presbyterian
Church, where Mr. Steer as-
sisted the choir in the song ser-
vice.

visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ivan
Laidlaw and with Mr. Herb
Laidlaw in Wingham & District
Hospital.
On Sunday at Goderich Har-
bor Park Mr. and Mrs. Orland

Lucknow, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton
Alton and Anne, Ashfield Twp.
Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Laidlaw and
Janet held a picnic with their
parents, Mr. and Mrs. John
Crowston.
Mr. and Mrs. Russel Chapman
and Mrs. Chapman Sr. visited
on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Alfred Wright of Rosemount.
Mr. Frank Miller of Langside
was admitted on Wednesday to
Wingham & District Hospital.
The community wishes him a
very speedy recovery.
Many folks of this commu-
nity will be happy to learn that
Mrs. William Emmerton, the
former Elora Crowston of Lang -
side, who was hospitalized in
St. Joseph's Hospital, London,
returned to her home at Kin-
cardine last Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Neable,
accompanied by her mother,
Mrs.Matilda Graham of Tees -
water, visited on Sunday with
Mr. and Mrs.Julius Fischer and
family of Palmerston.
Mr, Clifford Laidlaw is hav-
ing hydro installed, in his farm
buildings on the river side road.
Misses Joan and Lori Hack-
ett ofZion spent a few days
with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Walk-
er and on Sunday Mr. and Mrs.
Alex Leaver of Wingham and
Mr, and Mrs. D. A. Hackett of
Zion visited at the same home.
Joan and Lori returned home
with them.
Mr. and Mrs, Walter Arscott,
Valerie and Andrea, Mr. Brian
King and Mr. Dan Cassidy spent
the week -end in London with
Mr. and Mrs. James Cassidy
and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cassi-
dy.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Craig of
Toronto spent the week -end
with Mrs. Robert Ross, and on
Sunday all visited with Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Tiffin.
Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Green
of Vancouver, accompanied by
Miss Ann Henry and Miss Earns-
cliffe Musgrove of Wingham,
were Monday callers on former
friends, Mrs. Eunice Gillespie
and Mrs. Robert Ross.

WHITECHURCH-On Friday
evening a farewell party was
held in Whitechurch communi-
ty memorial hall, sponsored by
Allan Miller for Mr. and Mrs.
George Wadel, who have sold
their farm on the 4th of Cul-
ross and are moving to Teeswa-
ter.
Music for dancing was sup-
plied by the Rippling Water
Boys of Kitchener. Allan Mil-
ler is a member of this orches-
tra.
At lunch time Mr. and Mrs.
Wadel were called to the plat-
form and Allan Miller read an
address while Mr. John. McKin-
non presented them with a gift
of money.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Wadel
thanked their friends for their
kindness in thinking of them as
was shown by their putting on
the entertainment for them,
and referred to the many good
times they had throughout their
life with their neighbors at
gatherings such as this.
Sunday Services
In Local Churches
Rev. Kennedy of the Presby-
terian Church here, was guest
speaker at anniversary services
in Ripley Presbyterian Church
on Sunday. The Belmore pul-
pit was occupied by the Ripley
pastor, Rev. Neil McCombie,
who spoke about Peter, com-
paring him to people of today.
The quartet, Ross McKague,
Bill Jeffray, Bruce Darling and
Thomas Inglis provided special
music.
In the United Church, Mrs.
Murray Mulvey and Mrs. Orval
Cameron were accepted into
membership by certificate
transfer. Rev. Mr. Steven spoke
on "The Dignity of Man".
