Banquet Speaker
WH ITECHURCH- On Tuesday
evening of last week Mrs. Vic-
tor Emerson attended. the CGIT
mother, mystery mother and
daughter banquet in Knox Pres-
byterian Church, Teeswater,
when she showed pictures and
spoke of her trip across Canada
last year, She received a gift
in appreciation of her address.
Members of the graduating
class were Jean Grant, Anne
Verbeek, Iona Schneider, Jean
Halliday and Gayle Walmsley.
Mrs. Bill Schneider present-
ed each of the girls with a
white Bible. Mrs. Keith lit a
candle for each of the gradu-
ates and offered prayer. Gifts
were received from the mys-
tery mothers and passed around
for all to see.

Mr, and Mrs. Wilson Thorn-
ton, Jill and Cindy spent the
weekend with Mr, and Mrs.
Gary Leeson, and their (laugh,-

augkter Julia, at Stittsville. On
Friday evening, Mr. and Mrs,
Leeson and Mr, and Mrs. Thorn-
ton attended a graduation ban-
quet and ball in Chateau Laur-
ier, Ottawa in honor of the
graduating class of 850 teach-
ers at Ottawa Teachers' Col-
lege. Julia was the winner of
an award in Art, which en-
ables her to attend a course at
the Ontario College of Art this
summer.
Rev. G. C. Mitchell and
Mrs. Mitchell visited in Sarnia
last week.
Arnold Lillow, Jack Lillow,
of Stratford, and Bert Hertog
had a fishing trip to Northern
Ontario at the week -end.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hall and
family, of Thorndale, and Mr.
and Mrs.Jack Hall, of Brussels,
Mr.and Mrs. Richardson, of
Detroit, were Sunday visitors
with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hall.
Mr. and Mrs. George Hether-
ington had a few days' visit
with relatives at Mount Albert.
Bob Hetherington, of God-
erich, spent the week -end at
his home here.

GORRIE-Miss Elizabeth
Stokes, bride -elect, was honor-
ed by neighbours at a miscel-
laneous shower in the St. Ste-
phen's Anglican Church base-
ment on Friday evening.
The bride-to-be was seated
in a gaily decorated chair, and
Mrs. Delbert Clegg read the ad-
dress. She was the recipient of
many lovely gifts.

WHITECHURCH-Mary Gal-
braith of Wingham spent a few
days last week with her brother,
James FI. Currie. They received
word that their sister, Mrs.
John Aitken of 1560 Stadacona
Street W., Moose Jaw, had
fallen and has a broken hip.
Mrs. Aitken is a patient in the
hospital there.

FORDWICH-The CGIT held
its Mother and Daughter ban-
quet last Monday night in the
United Church, to which the
Afternoon Unit of the U.C. W.
catered, Sandra Allan gavethe
toast to the Queen and Donna
Norris proposed the toast to the
church with Mrs. George Ashton
giving the reply.
Carol King gave the toast to
the mothers and Mrs.Jack Doug-
las to the daughters. Replies
were made by Mrs.MorleyJohn-
ston and Phyllis Bilton.
Miss Karen Carswell was
valedictorian. Helen Johnston
gave a reading and a double
trio, Leslie Campbell, Wanda
Sparling, Sandra Allan, Marian
Harding, Donna Norris and Mar-
lene Douglas sang.
The graduation ceremony
was conducted by Nancy Neil
and Pat Harris, Mrs. H. Pollock
and Mrs.Jack Mann. Marian
Harding sang, "Follow the
Jleam" during the ceremony.
Karen Carswell was the only
graduate this year.
The guest speaker, Mrs. Ro-
bert Wood of Clifford, spoke on
the purpose of CGIT.
Annie Winkel and Marjorie
Ruttan presented a skit and Don-
na Marie Strong gave a piano
selection.
The caterers were thanked
by Helen Johnston and Nancy
Neil and Pat Harris were pre-
sented with small gifts as they
are leaving in the fall to teach
at Kitchener and Ottawa. They
voiced their appreciation.
W.A. Accepts
Invitations
FORDWICH-The W. A. met
at the home of Mrs. Peter
Browne last Wednesday. The
program from The Living Mes-
sage, "Come Ye Apart" was
followed by 3.hymn. Roll call
was answered by 13 members
and two visitors with stamped
get well cards or a fine.
Members were reminded of
the deanery meeting in Sea -
forth on June 15 and an invita-
tion was accepted to the U.C.
W. meeting at Newbridge on
June 9, when Rev. A.C.Coles
will show slides of Newfound-
land.
Mrs. Elsie Demerling gave a
reading and Mrs. E. Ferguson re-
ported on the diocesan annual
meeting. Mrs. Hargrave con-
ducted study on the life of
Deborah. Mrs. Ruby Foster read
a poem, "Mother's Apron".
The June 2nd meeting will
be held at the home of Mrs.
Hargrave in Listowel. Mrs.
Browne and Mrs. Bruce Sothern
served lunch.
