Where Life Is Won by Ski[I
In the past ten years surgery
has made normal Life possible
for countless children. especial-
ly infants who previously were
doomed to death or physical
handicaps. But heart and brain
operations, as well as numer-
ous other surgical procedures,
such as numerous orthopedic
problems like congenitally dis-
located hips, create a special
problem. This is the task of
bringing the patients through
the after -operation crises. In
children, this is far more dif-
ficult than in adults. To cope
with it, intensive -care wards,
adjacent to the operating -
rooms, are essential. The
scene above is one corner of
such a ward in The Hospital
for Sick Children. Last year
the hospital added many new
operating rooms to its facilities
and performed 15,173 opera-

seriously overcrowded special
care areas. This is only one of
the projects in its $29,226,498

seeks $13,900,000 in public
assistance to complete this

"Thank You, Mr. Pierre
Berton",
Just a note to thank you, Mr.
Berton, for pointing out some
of the grave mistakes weChris-
tians have been making these
last few centuries. I agree with
you that when we sing "What
a Friend We Have in Jesus" we
ought to cherish His friendship
above others that we seem to
count on just as much. Iagree
with you that when we sing"In
Christ there Is no East or West"

we ought to be as charitable to
the " foreigner" from Holland
as we are to the Anglo-Saxon
members of our own family. I
would agree with you that whe
we say "I am saved; I have be-
come a new creature in Christ"
that such a transformation
should be readily observed in
our business dealings and in
our attitudes to that mother-in-
law we can't stand. I would
agree with you that when we
read in our Book that we must
"forgive seventy times seven"
that we haven't really shown
much allegiance to this particu-
lar commandment. I would
agree with you that we seem to
have forgotten that our Master
said "other sheep I have, which
are not of this fold", We seem
to think that our one denomina-
tion (out of almost 300 deno-
minations in North America)
has God and truth pretty well
tied up in a neat little bundle.
Yes, Pierre, I would agree
with a great deal in your book.
Say, here's a thought, why
don't you join us in helping to
straighten out our churches and
our world? We need men like
you; I hope I'm not presump-
tuous in suggesting that you
also need us.

PACK "A"
Pack A Wolf Cubs met on
Tuesday evening with 31 boys
and three leaders present.
It was the Green Six's turn
for duty and after the Grand
Howl and 0 Canada the sixes
were given one minute to get
ready for inspection. On the
whole they weren't bad, but
some work has to be done on
shoes and fingernails. Each six
was given five points.
The boys decided to have a
work evening. Some went to
pass first aid with Baloo, some
with Akela to work on first
star knots and the rest with
Raksha to work on semaphore.
When the boys returned to
their lairs Tom Lee was pre-
sented with his First Star by
Baloo, L. Lloyd and three rous-
ing cheers were given Tom by
the pack.
Akela notified the Cubs that
the six finishing the year with
the most points will be taken
on a camping trip to Muskoka
the last week in June.
Boys who want to pass tests
are asked to contact any ofthe
leaders during the week so a
suitable time can be arranged.
