Advance -Times, Thursday, Ma 6, 1060 Discuss Capital Punishment BELGRAVE-The regular meeting of the Hi -C group met in the church school rooms on Sunday evening. Ruth Michie led in a sing song. President Jim Taylor presided. Minutes were read by Lynda Coulres and Allan Bosman gave the treasurer's report, The group discussed a party to close this year's activities, which will be held on June 20 at Boiler Beach. Next meeting will be held May 13. Luuk Meulwyke was in charge of the meeting and Donna Grasby gave the call to worship, followed by a hymn. Scripture lessons were read by Luuk. The offering was receiv- ed by Lloyd Michie and Allan Bosman. Donna led in prayer and another hymn was sung. Rev. Arthur Jackson led the discussion on "Capital Punish- ment" and the group divided to discuss the abolition of capital punishment. Recreation and Taps closed the meeting. It was the old-fashioned man who worried about the national debt. Wroxeter Mr, and Mrs, Archie Robin- son, Clinton, spent the week- end at their home here. Mr, and Mrs, Ronald Long- mire, Kitchener, visited the latter' s parents, Mr, and Mrs. William Smith over the week- end. Mr, and Mrs, Vern Clark, Miss Dawn Lue and Mr, Terry Clark and Mr. Fraser Polloek of Fordwich were in Scarborough for the week -end where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Broth - Mr, and Mrs. M. D. Young, Winnipeg, and Mrs. Donald Young and Gordon of Toronto, were guests of the Misses Gibson on Friday. Mr, and Mrs. Jeff Woollen and family, Toronto, were at their home here over the week- end. Miss Nellie Ball, Toronto, visited last week with Miss Mina and Mr. Arnold Ball, and Mr. and Mrs. George Sanderson. Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs, Russell Walker were Mr, and Mrs. Kenneth Walker, Galt. Mrs, Russell Bone of Brussels al- so called at the same home. Fordwich Personals The W.A. and St, Anne's Guild of Trinity Anglican Church, Fordwich, held a very successful bake sale and tea on Saturday in the basement of the church, Miss Sharon Pollock of Kit- chener, Miss 'Doris Carswell, Miss Peggy Gibson and Miss Iris Armstrong of Stratford and John Carswell of Kitchener were week -end visitors at their respective homes. Friends of Mrs, Ted Klaassen will be sorry to learn that she was confined to Walkerton Ilos- pital for several days last week. Miss Lynn Agla of Harriston spent the week -end with her parents, Mr, and Mrs, Bruce Agfa. Mr. and Mrs, Curtis Jordan were London visitors one day last week. Mr. and Mrs, Larry Marriner moved their household effects Saturday to the farm house of Mr. and Mrs. Russel Ruttan, on the ninth concession. Mr. and Mrs. William Robert of Listowel visited friends in the village on Sunday. Mr, and Mrs. Lawrence Spar - ling and Wesley of Meaford visited Sunday with Mr. and Belmore Personals Mrs. Clark Renwick is a pa- tient in Wingham and District Hospital and progressing favor- ably after surgery last week. We hope that she will soon be allowed home. Mrs. John Kerwin and child- ren spent part of Easter week with Mr. Kerwin in Toronto. They also spent some time with Mrs. Kerwin's parents in Ux- bridge, Mrs. Kerwin and family returning home last week -end. Mr. Kerwin will continue to spend the summer months in Toronto, with his family visit- ing him on week -ends. Mr. and Mrs, James Harkness of rhe 2nd of Culross and Mrs. James Struthers were guests on Saturday at the wedding of their nephew, Mr. Brian Ire- land, and Miss Gisele Manjin, held in Teeswater. Mr. and Mrs. Eimer Jeffray, Mr. and Mrs. Alan Darling, Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Johann and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harkness and Kaye were guests at the Hartman -Aitken wedding re- ception held in the Hartley House, Walkerton, on Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. I I. B, Allen of London, Miss Ada Eby of Kit- chener, and Mr. and Mrs. Wil- liam King of Brussels, were week -end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Douglas and Wayne. Regular church school class- es were resumed in the Presby- terian Church on Sunday, after being cancelled for the winter months. There is now an enrol- ment of 94 children in the school. Mr. and Mrs. Clarke Zinn and family of Lucknow were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Jeffray and family, and also called on Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Zinn. Rev. Douglas L. Steven, minister of the United Church here, was special guest on CKNX-TV's "Singtime" on Sunday afternoon. Guests on the same program were a quar- tet comprised of Ross McKague, Thomas Inglis, Bill Jeffray and Bruce Darling, and their ac- companist, Mrs. Alvin Mundell of the Presbyterian Church. Mrs.Jim Struthers visited on Sunday with her sister, Mrs. George Gamble of Teeswater, in Victoria Hospital, London. Miss Helen O'Malley of London spent the week -end with her family and other O'- Malley relatives on the 2nd of Culross. It is female, about three months old, with short jet black hair and long ears (could be part spaniel), and seems to be friendly with children. If you know of anyone who lost such a dog, or know of a child who would like a cute pet, get in touch with Mrs. Kerwin in the village. Shower Held for Former Resident BELMORE-A large crowd of friends attended a shower held on Saturday evening in the Community Centre, in honor of the recent marriage of Mrs. Clayton Wilkinson, the former Mary Elliott of this area. Mrs. Alvin Mundell and Mrs. Harry Mulvey were in charge of ar- rangements. Contests and games were en joyed by everyone there. Mrs. John Rutherford read the ad- dress and Mary was presented with a tri -light lamp, ahassock, a set of TV tables, and a purse of money. Mary thanked her friends, after which lunch was served and a social tirne enjoyed, Mr. and Mrs. Wilkinson now reside in Kitchener. Mrs. Glen Johnston. Mrs.!, Iiooper, Jennifer and Peter of Ottawa visited all last week with her mother, Mrs, Pearl Duke, FRIENDSHIP CLUB DONATES TO MARTIN LUTHER KING I3ELMORE-The Macl3el Friendship Club approved the donation of fifteen dollars to Rev. Martin Luther King, of Selma, Alabama, at its month- ly meeting held last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ferguson. i losts were Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson, and Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Johann. The theme of the meeting was "Brotherhood". "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" was sung to begih the devotional portion of the meeting. Mr. Ferguson read the Scripture passages, and Mrs. Johann spoke on Brotherhood, and led in prayer, Rev. Douglas Steven showed films and gave a talk on min- ing nickel in Canada, speaking from twelve years' experience as a miner in Northern Ontario. Mr. Ferguson expressed thanks to Mr. Steven, on behalf ofoth- er members of the club. Lunch was then served by the hosts. Brakes Fail, Truck in Water LAKELET-It is well known that we have several boating enthusiasts around Lakelet, but anyone passing through last Monday afternoon would have been shocked to see a truck take to the water. however, the occupant was able to free himself, and reached shore safely. The cause of the incident was a simple brake failure. Motorists, take warning! Hi -C Concert Successful FORDWICH-A full house was in attendance at the variety concert held in the auditorium of Howick Central School on Friday night, which was put on by The Fordwich Hi -C group, There was lots of talent shown among boys and girls, both in quartette singing and plays. The sum of $70.00 was rea- lized for charity work. LAKELET Mrs. Annie Harris of Nia- gara Falls visited with Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Gadke on Friday of last week. He returned home Saturday, April 24th and is waiting to go to Chicago where he will work for an air freight company as service agent. Mr. Campbell was born in Listowel, January 12,1$46 and received his elementary school education there at U. S, S. No. 2 Elma and Wallace Public School and Listowel Secondary School.
