Speaker BLL'EVALE-The health meeting of Bluevale Women's Institute was held at the hen of Mrs. Harry Elliott, who press- ded last Wednesday. Mrs. J. V. Fischer was convener. S o nt e humorous replies were given to the roll call, "A Cure for Wrin- kles," as "Turn your frown up- side down." Plans were discussed for a workshop in leather work, an approaching variety concert and the 4-H Club garden club pro- ject. Mrs, Reg DuVal, of Wing - ham, was the guest speaker. She gave an enlightening scien- tific address on diseases and treatments, naming three class- es of diseases and stated the body is prepared to deal with them by means of natural chem- ical action, When the body act- ion is not sufficient the chiro- practor uses massage and mus- cular manipulation to free the blockage in blood vessels, nerves, or muscles and relieve pain. ASSOCIATION EUCHRE PARTY BLUEVALE-The Bluevale Recreation Association's euchre party was held at the communi- ty hall on Friday with 12 tables in play. The committee in charge was Mr. and Mrs. Alex McTav- ish, Mr.and Mrs. Joe Walker and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Wright. Prize winners were: Ladies' high, Mrs. Gordon Walker; ladies' second, A. D. Smith, playing as a lady; ladies' low, Mrs. Jim Casemore; men's high, Lloyd Taylor; men's second, Ross Goll; men's low, Walter Sellers. Messengers Hear Story on Africa BLUEVALE-The United Church Messengers met in the school room of the church on Sunday morning. The president, Ken Mathers, opened the meeting. Minutes were read by Clifford Hether- ington. Donny Campbell took up the offering which was dedi- cated by Mrs. George Fischer. Mrs. Charles Campbell read a chapter of "New Magic", a story of Africa. Peacock gave the motto, "A merry heart cures more diseases than medi- cine" showing the beneficial effect of cheerfulness and laugh- ter on the organs and muscles of the body. Mrs. Stewart Cowan, of Wingham, entertained with mouth organ selections, con- cluding with "The Irish Wash- erwoman", suitable for the sea- son. Mrs. Mungo McFarlane was accompanist. Refreshments were served by the hostess and Mrs. T.E. Kennedy, Mrs. Mel Craig and Mrs. Charles Mathers. BLUEVALE Arnold Lillow, Jack Wick - stead, Bert Hertog and Wendell Stamper attended the hockey game between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs at Maple Leaf Gardens on Wed- nesday. Mr. and Mrs. Murray Lowry were attendants at the Zinn - Whitby wedding in Wingham on Wednesday. Mrs. Joe Smith of Brussels, spent a week with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Elliott. Mr. and Mrs. Spence McKin- non and family of Niagara Falls were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. R. H. McKinnon. Mrs. Arnold Lillow, Mrs. Thomas Parker and Mrs. Ernie King visited Mr. and Mrs. Al Cherny at Cooksville on Sun- day. Mr. and Mrs. Elton Mahood and family of Hamilton, are visiting Mr.and Mrs. Thomas Parker. Mr.and Mrs. Charles Coul- tes have returned home after spending some months at Clin- ton. Rev. G•. C. Mitchell, Mrs. Mitchell and Miss Bessie Mitch- ell spent Monday in London. Stresses Importance of Enthusiasm at Meetings BLUEVALE- The March meet- ing eeting of the W.M.S. of Knox Church was held in the S.S. room of the church. The presi- dent, Mrs. Bill Robertson call- ed the meeting to order then led in prayer. The roll call was answered by suggestions to improve meetings. Mrs. Harry Elliott acted as secretary -treasurer in absence of Mrs. McMurray, who was in hospital. The ladies accepted an invitation from U.C.W. of Bluevale United Church to at- tend their Thankoffering meet- ing April 1. Mrs. Kennedy presented Mrs. W.Robertson with a Life Mem- bership certificate which was a gift from Rev. Kennedy. Mrs. Robertson expressed sincere thanks for the gift. The devotional part of the meeting was conducted by Mrs. William Elston, Mrs. Mann read Scripture. Mrs. Elston gave interesting comments. As the February meeting had been cancelled due to wea- ther conditions, Mrs. Elston gave the introduction of the study book which really is the general history of the W.M.S. Her talk was inspiring and she encouraged the members to try to improve the meetings by having members participate in- dividually or in groups of two or more. She stated it is most Mrs. E. Meeting opened with a hymn, prayers and meditations. The roll call was answered by eight members and two visitors with a verse on Lent. A letter was read from Rev. George Hamilton of Fort Simp- son, N. W. T. who is the pray- er partner. Members were re- minded of the semi-annual diocesan meeting in St. Paul's Cathedral, London, on April 27 and 28, A thank you note was received from the Upper Canada Bible Society for used stamps. A reading, " The Ideal Presi- dent" was given by Mrs. E. Hargrave. The study "Priscilla - A Servant of the Church" was given by Mrs. Lloyd Jacques. Mrs. Anderson closed with the prayer and a pot luck lunch was served. Mrs. Wilson Wins Prize FORDWICH-Flowick Legion Ladies' Auxiliary met in the Legion rooms for the March meeting. Letters were read from veterans in Westminster Ilospital and a card was signed by all for a local man who is confined there. A donation was voted to the Bursary Fund. Plans were com- pleted for the Sr. Patrick's dance on March 19. L.O.B.A. Euchre FORDWICH-A progressive euchre party was held at the home of Mr.and Mrs. Ernie D' Arcy sponsored by Fordwich L. O. B. A.131. Thirteen tables were in play. Mrs. George Pittendreigh and John Gamble were the win- ners and consolation prizes went to Mrs. R. Watters and Spence Briars. The special prize was won by Mrs. Winnie Downey. If you must cry over spilled milk, condense it. Fordwicli Personals Mr. Willoughby Patterson of Cooksville spent Friday with his mother, Mrs. Pearl Patter- son. Miss Marie Browne of Tor- onto spent the week -end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Browne. Mrs. Don Bridge and Susan and Mrs. James Vittie were Kitchener visitors on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Klaassen and Teddy were Simcoe visit- ors one day last week. Miss Jean Foster and Mr. John Harris of Toronto were week -end visitors with Mrs. Ruby Foster. Miss Elizabeth Armstrong of Galt spent the week -end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Armstrong. Miss Glenna Hibbert of Kit- chener visited over the week- end with her parents, Mr.and Mrs. Robert Hibberd. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn John- ston visited friends in Lindsay on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stewart, Douglas and Gregory of Listow- el were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. William Sothern, Mrs. Everett Armstrong, John Armstrong and Mr.Jack Armstrong visited Saturday with Mr.and Mrs. Jim Potts at Burlington. Mr.and Mrs. Anson Ruttan were Saturday visitors in El- mira. Mr. Jack Ruttan of Parry Sound spent the week -end with his parents, Mr.and Mrs. An- son Ruttan. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Marriner attended the Ice Capades in Detroit on Saturday. Mr. Bob Bride of London spent the week -end with his parents, Mr.and Mrs. Stan Bride. Mr. Earl Ridley of London spent the week -end at his home here. Mrs, George Pittendreigh and George Inglis spent one day last week in London and visited Mr. George Pittendreigh in Westminster Hospital. Mr. Pitt- endreigh came home on Satur- day after being hospitalized for a month, Miss Irene Butchart of Clif- ford spent the week -end with Mr.and Mrs. Harold Doig. Mr.and Mrs. Ross Doig and Mr.and Mrs. Arnold Doig at- tended the funeral in Gorric on Sunday of Mrs.Jim Edwards. Mr. and Mrs. Dennis John- ston of Sarnia spent the week- end with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Douglas. Mr. Herb Collins, who has been confined to Victoria llos- pital, London, since November was able to return to his home on Saturday. A speedy return to health is wished for him. Mr.and Mrs. Doug Wildfang and children of Cooksville were week -end visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Simmons.
