The Wingham Advance-Times, 1965-02-18, Page 16Page 8 - Winghain Advance -Times, Thursday, Feb, 18, 1965 Pioneer Girls Receive Awards at Encampment Pioneer Girls at Wingham Baptist Church held a special celebration of the 25th Anniver- sary of Pioneer Girls in North America, on Friday night. Pioneer Girls was founded in 1939 by students of Wheaton College. It became an interde- nominational program for girls between the ages of 8 and 18. In the 35 years, Pioneer Girls has grown to 89,000 members across the continent of North America, The program pattern has been adapted to the culture of 13 other countries, by mission- aries going to the field, who have seen rhe need of girls in the countries they serve. The slogan of Pioneer Girls is"Christ in every phase of a girl's life". The evening's program com- menced with a supper in the lower auditorium of the church. Featured were silver anniver- sary and Valentine decorations. The chairman was Mrs. D. Sin- clair. The encampment service, attended by several parents and friends, was held at 7:30. A skit, "The Lives of Three Girls'; depicting the role of Pals in Pioneer Girls' work, was given at the conclusion of the service. Those taking part were Brenda Stapleton, Mary Joan Corrin, Linda Stapleton, Mrs. William Stapleton, Mrs. F. Collar, Mrs. R. House, Mrs. Harriet Stokes, Mrs. M. Mrs. Delmar Dickert is a patient at Walkerton Hospital, having undergone surgery on Friday. We wish her a speedy recovery. Mr. Robert McComb returned to his home on Sunday, follow- ing surgery at the Dr, Sholdice Hospital, Thornhill. Mr, Eldon Dennis, who has been convalescing at Goderich, has returned to his home here.
