Wingham Native Was
Veteran Clergyman
Funeral service was held on
Thursday for Rev, A. E, M.
Thomson, DD, the first presi-
dent of the London Conference
of the United Church of Canada
in 1925, who died December22
at his horne in Windsor, after a
lengthy illness. He was S8,
Dr. Thomson was born in
Wingham. He had preached in
Merlin, South Woodslee, Am -
HOME FROM HOSPITAL
AFTER CAR. ACCIDENT
BLUEVALE-Mr, and Mrs,
Harry Elliott and Mr. and Mrs.
Alvin Gamble of Listowel met
with an accident in the Toron-
to vicinity last Thursday while
on their way to Cornwall, when
their car was struck by another
vehicle.
Mrs. Elliott was in hospital
at Toronto for a few days but
is now able to be home. The
others received only slight in-
juries. The trip was discontin-
ued.
Mrs. R. J. Ross
Dies in Seaforth
WHITECHURCH-Mrs. Ben
McClenaghan received word on
Christmas Day that Mrs. R.J.
Ross of Seaforth had died on
December 24, in her 84th year.
Burial was in Seaforth on Satur-
day.
Mrs. Ross was the former
Bella Haig, whose home was on
Con. 6, Kinloss, west of Lang -
side Church. She had also re-
sided on Con. 2, Kinloss, on
the farm previously owned by
the Mirehouse family. She at-
tended Chalmers Presbyterian
Church and was a member of
Whitechurch Women's Ins titute'.
She is survived by two sons,
Stewart McGregor, with whom
she lived, and Robert, of Lon-
don.
Hi -C Meets
BELGRAVE-The Eli -C Group
met for the last meeting of
1964 in the church basement on
Sunday. The meeting opened
with a sing -song led by Karen
Anderson, accompanied by
Lorne Campbell. Lynda Coult-
es read the minutes and Allen
Bosman gave the treasurer's re-
port.
Bob Taylor was in charge of
the meeting and the discussion
was "Are We Conformists?"Two
groups discussed this topic and
reported. The Scripture lesson
was read by Hugh McBurney.
'Standing at the Portal. was
sung. Murray Procter and Ivan
Wheeler received the offering,
and i3ob led in prayer.
Games were enjoyed. The
group clo.ed their meeting by
singing

and Ottawa before retiring and
going to Windsor 19 years ago.
After his retirement, Dr.
Thomson continued on as inter-
im minister at Westminster
United Church.
He attended Victoria College
at the University of Windsor and
was the last president of the
Methodist Conference before
church union.
Surviving are his wife, Hat-
tie; sons, George of Detroit,
John of London; daughters, Mrs.
E. N. (Margaret) Fullerton of
London, Mrs. A.E. (Janet) Spar -
ling of Windsor; 10 grandchild-
ren; one great-grandchild.
The body rested at the D.E.
Morris funeral home until Thur-
sday noon, when it was trans-
ferred to Westminster United
Church for services at 2 p.m.
with Rev. Philip Smith, pastor
of Westminster, Rev. George A.
Wishart, president of the Lon-
don Conference, Rev, Gordon
W. Butt and Rev. J. A. Walker,
past presidents of the London
Conference officiating. Entomb-
ment was in Windsor Grove
Mausoleum.

Church Sunday School eoncert
was held on Tuesday evening of
last week with a very large at-
tendance.
The program opened with
earols. Mrs. Ed Martin A up -
plied piano accompaniment.
Recitations were given by
Marcia Gibson, Sally Dobson,
Susan Hart, Vicki Bradshaw,
Dougie Irwin, Mary Beth Riley,
Valerie Sinnamon and Debbie
Montgomery.
The chairman, Rev, Fred
Taylor, addressed the gathering..
The program was interspers-
ed with piano solos by Nancy
Clarke, Susan McMichael,
Shane Gibson, Carol Adams,
Marjorie McMichael, Arthur
Gibson, Danny Newton, Debbie
Montgomery, Glenis Gibson and
Brenda Townsend.
Recitations were given by
Murray Sinnamon, Brenda
Brown, Kevin Townsend, Cathy
Oakley and Arthur Gibson.
Mrs. Les Douglas and Mrs.
Art Gibson's juniors gave two
action rhymes and Lyle Hart's
class sang a chorus, Mrs, Geo.
Gibson's class did a pantomime.
Children taught by Catherine
Edgar and Carol Newton sang a
song. Louise Edgar's class sang
a song and gave a choral read-
ing.
A dialogue was given by Mrs,
Geo. Gibson's pupils and a very
comical play, with the boys
dressed as women, was present-
ed by Gail Statia's class. Songs
were sung by pupils of Mrs. A.
Wearring and Jean Adams and
Jean Newton played a piano
duet.
Treats were distributed to
the children by the senior boys.
