Institute Aids
Stricken Family
BELGRAVE- The December
meeting of the Women's Insti-
tute was held on Tuesday at
the home of Mrs. J. M. Coultes.
Mrs. Stanley Cook opened the
meeting and a carol was sung.
Mrs. Stanley Cook read the
story, "Christmas on 25¢",
The minutes and the finan-
cial statement were read by
Mrs. Earl Anderson. A letter
from Mrs. Day, Goderich, was
read asking the Institute to pro-
vide an evening's entertain-
ment at the Ontario Hospital.
The Institute members plan
this in May. Mrs. Albert Coul-
tes offered to buy the Christmas
gift for the war veteran, Mr.
Ploog, at Westminster Hospital.
A donation of $25.00 was voted
to Mr. and Mrs. Hermann Mus-
chidd, who lost their home and
belongings in a recent fire.
There will be a shower at the
January meeting to assist this
family.
Mrs. J.M.Coultes was the
convener for this, the Christ-
mas meeting, with theme"For
.ages the Christmas bells have
rung their message of peace on
earth and good will to all men';

CHURCH DECORATED
FOR VESPER SERVICE
BELGRAVE-The C. G. I. T.
held its annual Christmas ves-
per service in the United
Church on Sunday evening. A
medley of carols was played by
the organist, Miss Joyce Procter.
First reader in the service
was Marilyn Taylor and second
reader was Wendy Fear. The
candlelighter was Ruth Ann
Pletch. The C. G. I. T. choir
sang two anthems "Infant Holy'
and " The Magnificat". The of-
fering was received by Mrs.
Arthur Jackson and Mrs. Cliff
Logan, two of the leaders.
The church was decorated
with candles in the windows and
candelabra at the altar.
BELGRAVE
Miss Linda Coultes of Water-
loo Lutheran College spent the
week -end with her parents,Mr.
and Mrs. Albert Coultes.
Reeve and Mrs. Stewart Pro-
cter entertained the members
of the council and employees
of Morris Township at a turkey
banquet, held at their home on
Tuesday of last week.
Miss Marilyn Campbell of
Toronto spent the week -end
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Floyd Campbell.
A young man ordered two
dozen roses to be sent to his
fiance and wrote on the card
"A rose for each year of your
precious life':
"Throw in an extra dozen",
said the florist to his assistant,
"he's a good customer."
The assistant did. The mar-
riage as yet, hasn't taken
placel
with a Christmas custom in the
home. Mrs. Pocock sang a
solo, "I Heard the Bells on
Christmas Day".
The motto, "You cannot
cut Christmas out of the calen-
dar, or out of the heart of the
world" was given by Mrs. Al-
bert Coultes, Christmas carols
were sung. Mrs. Walter Scott
told a beautiful Christmas story.
A Christmas quiz was conducted
by Mrs. Annie Coultes.
Lunch was served by Mrs.
Jean Wheeler, Mrs. He,:. Whee-
ler and Mrs. J.M.Coultes.
C.G.I.T. Welcomes
New Members
BELGRAVE-The C. G. I. T.
met on Wednesday in the
church basement. Margaret
Nicholson led in games. Wendy
Fear, president, was in charge.
Audrey Coultes read the secre-
tary's report and Marilyn Tay-
lor gave the financial state-
ment. Sunday School and
church attendance were record-
ed. The next meeting will be
on December 30 with the fol-
lowing committees in charge:
Games, Wendy Fear; sing song,
Rhonda Fear; worship, Linda
and Lois Rinn.
The worship service was a
combination of initiation and
lanyard service. The service
for the new members. was open-
ed by Wendy Fear who wel-
comed the new members. Also
taking part was Mrs. Arthur
Jackson.
New members initiated were
Sandra Procter, Bonnie Cook,
Mary Ellen Taylor. Mrs. Jack-
son and Wendy also conducted
the service for girls receiving
their lanyards, Brenda Van -
Camp and Lois Rinn.

Explorers Hold
Christmas Meeting
BELGRAVE-The Explorers
met for their December meet-
ing in the church school -room
during the regular hour of wor-
ship. The meeting opened with
singing "This Is My Father's
World".
Business was conducted by
the president, Mary Grasby.
Minutes were read by Mary Ann
Wheeler followed by the roll
call. Ken Hopper gave the
treasurer's report.
Owen Fear conducted the
Christmas worship service.
"Gentle Mary Laid Her Child"
was sung followed by Scripture
reading. Meditation was given
by the leader. The story "Gifts"
was read by Mrs. Stan Hopper.
The offering was received by
Dale Lamont and dedicated by
Owen. Prayer and Christmas
Litany was led by the leader.
Marlene Pletch read a poem,
"Christmas Morning" and the
story " Gil's Best Christmas" was
read by the leader. A Christ-
mas puzzle followed.
Mrs. Laura Johnston, the
assistant leader, read the story
"An Angel After All". The
benediction closed the meeting
and World Friends were distrib-
uted by Barbara Cook.
Messengers Meet
BELGRAVE- The Messengers
of Knox United Church met
for their Christmas meeting on
Sunday morning which opened
by marking the attendance
chart. The Messenger motto
and prayer were repeated in un-
ison.
Mrs. Gorden Pengally read
from the study book. Mrs. Wil-
fred Walker read Christmas
stories. The hymn, "Away in
the Manger" was sung. Bradley
Campbell received the offering.
The children coloured Chris-
tmas pictures and made Christ-
mas trees. The meeting closed
with prayer and The World
Friends were distributed.
